12: Secrets
Logan
The bell finishes its last insistent ringing, fading away into the background as people in the room continue their conversations. I look to my right and frown, seeing the empty seat. Where is she?
Mr. Baylee walks up to the board at the front of the class and opens his mouth to say something but is interrupted by the door opening with a rush of wind. Standing in the doorway with swollen eyes and hair in a frizz is Anyra.

She moves to Mr. Baylee and asks if she can speak with him. He purses his lips but agrees, walking with her out into the hall. They close the door behind them, and I feel the emptiness in the air.
Anyra had seemed upset about something. My heart thunders in my chest. I’m worried. But why? In reality, I barely know Anyra. I don’t know anything about her except her name.
Anyra Alden.
