Chapter Nineteen

René followed a secret passage into a lighthouse in the college. She received an anonymous message telling her to meet there if she wants to find out about the eye. She knows it is dangerous because it may be a trap by the eye to lure her out so they can finally silence her as they did her brother. But she still took her chance.

As she walked into the lighthouse, there was no one there. She looked around the place when suddenly, Pablo emerged from the darkness. She gasped as she saw him. She already had her doubt that he was part of the eye, but for him to call her to meet was the shocking part.

"Pa-Pablo?… Does that mean you've always known that I was an undercover cop?" She asked.

He nods. "To be honest, I only recently found out when you meet with that guy at the party,"

"You were following me?" She asked.

He puts his hand up. "No, it's not like that, it's just after I saw the messages on your phone, I got scared so I had to be sure that it was me," He stopped for a moment before speaking again. "I just want to know how you found out that I was part of the eye?" He asked.

"Why should I trust you?…" She pulled out a gun and aimed it at Pablo. "Put your hands behind your head and face the wall. I'm arresting you for being part of a criminal organization that is guilty of illegal actions like drug trafficking and kidnapping," She said, taking a step forward.

Pablo puts his hand up. "Whoa whoa… relax. I am not here on orders of the eye. I just want to stop the eye so I can get my life back. I am tired of living like this."

She stared at him for a moment, thinking whether or not to trust him. Seeing her distress, Pablo went on to tell her everything that happened since he joined the eye.

"We could work together to bring them down, you and I. And maybe clear my name," He finished.

She slipped her gun back into her belt and sighed. "When I came to California, looking for my brother who disappeared after associating himself with the eye, I got a message from an anonymous person giving me clues on what to do and how to find out about the eye… they lead me to Cloud college and said to look towards you if I want to find answers," she revealed.

"I see. My guess is, it's them trying to implicate me because I'm starting to go against them," Pablo pointed out.

She shakes her head in disapproval. "I don't think so. I think it's a member of the eye who doesn't like how things are going, so they are trying to rat out,"

"I guess I should trust you in turning these guys in. I can't completely clear your name from the activities, but at least you helping could do a little something" she added.

He nods. "Thank you. It's what I get for joining a cult"

"But wait… how old are you?" He asked. "Cause you look the same age as some girl I had a crush on," he queried.

"What?… I'm not that old, I'll probably just be like a few years older than you," she answered.

He pouts. "Oh, and here I was starting to catch feelings for you," he blurted out. He used his hand to cover his mouth as he realized he said it out loud.

"Did you confess to your crush?…" She asked trying to change the subject before things get weird.

He nods. "Actually I did… but she rejected me, saying she just wanna be friends."

René hums. "Rejection is still love dude,"

Before he could answer, her phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out to check it. Her eyes open wide as she saw what it was.

"What's wrong?" Pablo asked.

"It's the anonymous person sending me a text about the eye. He just sent another, saying Cunningham is also part of the eye. And that he's the one recruiting people in."

He furrowed his brow. "But who could this be? That he can hack into the eye and still haven't been caught?" He turned to René. "Could you track where the message is coming from?…" He asked.

She nods. "I mean I could, but I have to get to the station real quick. I'll text you," she said before quickly running out of the lighthouse.

Pablo leaned back on the wall and slip his hand into his hair. If they could trace this person, they would be a step closer to finding out more about the group.

His phone buzzed. He pulled it out to see a message from the eye.

"Hope you still got the gun in your possession" was all it said.

He left the lighthouse back to his apartment to check if the gun is still where he left it.
