LARA'S POV
The race in Austria hadn't gone as I would have liked because of the problems I had with the car, but we couldn't find anything unusual about it, so I have no idea what could have happened, but I wasn't the only one, because apparently Cameron and other drivers also complained about the cars and found nothing in them. But I still managed to win my second world title, and I'm happy I did.
That afternoon, we were all celebrating and those from the village had made a video call with Bianca to congratulate me and told me when I returned to the village, we would celebrate it as it should, which meant a party. I couldn't have better fans than the ones at home, really.
These weeks, things with Cameron were going great. It was rare we didn't have a date during the week, and honestly, I have a great time with him. When the journalists started the rumours of our possible relationship, we decided to call Zara, since Cameron had promised she would be the first to know who the mystery girl was and as soon as we told her, she practically jumped off the walls of Cam's box.
On the other hand, Cameron's mother seems to have been delighted with me, because she always asked me to spend time with her, and Cameron was delighted with it. From what he told me one day while we were in his room, his mother isn't one of the people who accepts his girlfriend's easily, she's excited, but according to him, she hadn't put a single problem with me, which flattered me the truth.
This week we're in Belgium, one of the circuits I love the most and the longest if I remember correctly.
Today is race day and it would be the last grand prix mom and grandma would be in. Yesterday qualifying had gone well, I was second with Cameron in front and Eric behind. Not far behind was Gallagher too, I just hoped I wouldn't run into him on the track because if I do, I'm sure I won't end well.
"Hello, my queen." I heard Cameron say somewhere behind me, "I thought you wouldn't come until later." I replied turning in his direction "A hello or a kiss would be great to greet your boyfriend."
I went up to him, gave him a kiss, took him by the shirt to let him in since I hadn't finished changing and I still had to comb my hair. "Wow, if you needed me to be with you, you just should have called me earlier."
"Even though I don't mind spending time with you, that's not why I brought you into the room. I just have to finish changing and doing my hair. I wasn't going to leave you at the door or slam the door in your face." I assured thinking where I had left the comb "I know, do you want me to help you with something?"
"And what exactly do you want to help me with?" I asked without focusing too much attention on him "I can put your things in the backpack." she said and I laughed, because I wouldn't let Cam put my stuff in my backpack. "Even though I've got it done, I wasn't going to let you do it, you suck at it."
"I'm not that messy." He refuted and I denied, because it was "For you it consists of putting things in any way, are you going to tell me it isn't a disaster?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "It might be a little."
"You are, Cam." I assured him with a small smile on my face "Okay, and what if you sit while I do your hair." He responded with the comb I hadn't found until I saw it in his hand "It's not..." I started, but he denied "I insist... it seems you're a little stressed... did you sleep well?"
"I'm fine, I'm not stressed and I have slept better than I did in the last few days." I assured "I'm glad to hear that, now I just ask you to relax and I'll do your hair."
Cameron had his hands on my shoulders forcing me down into the chair I hadn't even realized I had left there. We're looking at each other through the mirror and he had a small smile. I nodded and that little smile grew bigger, he gave me a kiss on the cheek, he picked up the comb and began to comb my hair.
At no time did I take my eyes off Cameron and he occasionally looked up in my direction. The whole time we're in silence and honestly, is one of the most comfortable silences of my life, and I had completely relaxed.
Once he was done, he put the comb back where it was before, kissed me on the cheek, and pushed the chair back so I could get up. When I did, I stood in front of him, I put my hands be waist hind his neck and he ended up leaving them on my waist.
"I didn't know you were so good at this hairdressing thing. I'll have to ask you to comb my hair more often." I said a little more calmly "Well, I'll tell you in advance you don't ask me for anything other than combing my hair, because if you say I'm a disaster packing my suitcase or putting things in my backpack, you don't want to know how bad I'm making a ponytail."
"I'll settle for you combing my hair." I answered laughing, "Then I'll always stop by your room so I can do it." he assured "It seems perfect to me."
With that I pulled him closer to me and we kissed. You could tell I'm in love with this man, and I never felt so safe doing it with someone other than him. Cameron's hands are beginning to slide lower when the bathroom door swings open and Bianca leans against the door frame.
"I hope I haven't interrupted whatever's going on here, but if you don't hurry, you won't make it on time." Bianca said somewhere "Okay, we're on our way." I responded pulling back enough to tell him "No distractions guys, I don't want to hear my sister moaning."
"Well, at least now you can tell everyone my drought is over." I hesitated, but that didn't imply it's true "Oh, it's true, but you're lasting longer than I expected Lara, especially now if we consider you have a boyfriend."
I picked up the comb and tossed it to my sister. If it wasn't for the fact she had good reflexes, I would hit her square in the head, which was completely my intention.
The moment she left the room, Cameron released me and I did the same, going to the room to get the backpack, the room key, the cell phone, the motorcycle keys and we left the room.
On the way to the lobby, we intertwine our fingers and exit into it. I was about to let go of Cameron's hand so I could go to my bike, when he stops me.
"What's up Cam?" I asked with a frown, "Can I go with you?" he asked "I'm going on the motorcycle." I said, "I don't care." he replied "Okay, do you have a helmet?" I asked, "I can use the spare." he answers me, I fixed my gaze on him, because I might need it later "You should keep it."
"Don't worry, I have more in the box." he assured "You better." I answered and he smiled "Don't worry, can I go with you now?" he insisted "Ok." I replied. I got on the bike and Cameron got on after me. The moment Bianca noticed Cameron sitting behind me, she looked around, then shook her head.
"I hope you make it to the circuit alive, Cam." Bianca said, shaking her head. "I don't think it's that bad." He answered "It will not run like a Formula 1, but believe me, it could be said it imposes more than the car."
"Stop saying stupid things and get in the car." I said with a menacing look in her direction "I'm just asking you not to go crazy, you know how grandma gets." she said, and I nodded, because I knew it better than even her "I know, and don't worry, I'll be fine."
"That devil machine shouldn't be driven by you." my sister said laughing "See you in a few minutes Bianca." I said, lowering the visor of the helmet "I hope so, hold on tight Cameron."
With that, Bianca got into the car, and we put on our helmets. I handed the backpack to Cameron to make it easier for him to hold on. We lowered the visor of the helmet; I started the motorcycle and left the parking lot. It normally took about thirty minutes to get there, but we made it in a little over twenty minutes. I parked the bike, took out my helmet and put it in my backpack.
"Did you think about dedicating yourself to motorcycles?" Cameron asked once we got out of the bike "Apart from the fact I like cars, grandma would kill me or tie me up and lock me in my room so I wouldn't compete with a motorcycle."
"Because of the devilish machine?" he asked curiously "For that and because it could be a couple of years ago, I had a small accident." I said leaving little space between my thumb and forefinger "Why didn't you tell me you had an accident on the bike?"
I shrugged, because it hadn't been a big deal, and even though I know my grandmother worried too much about what happened to me, I also know she had exaggerated "It was a little one, just a few little scratches, nothing more."
"Now I understand why she doesn't like motorcycles." He said, "She didn't like them before, but after the accident, she hated it more." Cameron stretched out his hand in my direction, we intertwined our fingers and entered the circuit. When we got to my box, we kissed each other, wished each other luck and we each got into their box.
Before going out on the track, I spoke for a while with mom, grandma, Bianca and I got in the car. I did a couple of laps to test the track and then headed over to the grid where I was talking to Bianca and Rebecca about today's strategy.
Ten minutes before the start of the race, I got in the car and I noticed on the horizon there were a couple of dark clouds coming towards the circuit, so I connected the radio cable to it and asked about the chances of rain, to which they answered that it would surely rain in the race. Bianca wished me luck, to take care of myself, and I gave a thumbs up to let her know I would.
When those ten minutes were up, we went around in formation and warmed up the tyres. Less than three minutes later the race started, and I was glued to Cameron's gearbox for about five laps.
Against halfway through the race, it started to rain, but Cameron and I didn't have time to get in as we had passed the pit entrance, so we were one more lap outside. Going into the pits, I lasted a bit longer because the front right wheel had come off hard, but I didn't lose much more time than normal, a couple of milliseconds.
When I got out, I was in seventh position and it took me a while to warm up, but once I got the tyres warm, I overtook a couple of cars and was about to overtake third. "Okay, Lara, I need you to be careful with the car in front of you." Rebbe said from the wall and what made him frown "Why?" I asked " Gallagher." and that explained everything "Understood. Will the rain ever stop?
"About a quarter of an hour." She replied, "Okay, thanks, Rebbe." I replied turning my focus back to the race.
On the main straight, I stuck to Gallagher, and at the La Source exit, I paralleled him going all the way towards Eau Rouge, until we were halfway through Eau Rouge, Gallagher turned and hit the side right of my car, which makes me lose control of the car and go against the barriers. Hitting the barriers sends me back towards the track and I feel something hit the right side of the car again, flipping the car over and the halo dragging against the ground.
I felt numb my blurry vision and thousands of voices coming through my ears, but I had no idea what they were saying. I could feel how the edges of my vision began to darken, causing everything to go black in a few seconds.
CAMERON'S POV
We must have been about fifteen laps into the race when the steering wheel tells me there's a red flag, so I get into the pit lane and ask what has happened on the radio, but nobody answers me, I just hope who had the accident is fine.
Once I arrived, I turned off the car, unbuckled my seatbelt and looked at the screens next to me before leaving, since they were reproducing the curve where the accident had occurred, and I could see the phosphor green, the same as the cars in the Lara's team, but if it was Lara, they would have told me when I asked, right?
I turned my head to my left, and I could see Ellie, who didn't have the best of faces. My heart racing, I quickly get out of the car and remove my helmet. "Who's the one with the accident?" I asked "Cameron, I don't think…" she started this one, but I stopped her "Tell me who the fuck is the one that had the accident."
"Lara…" The moment Eli says her name, my gaze goes to the screens where ambulances, the medical car, and a tow truck approaching to turn the car around. The other pilot pushed aside the paramedics who were treating him and tried to approach Lara's car, but the paramedics and one of the marshals stopped him.
I looked over to where Lara's team was on the wall, and everyone was frantic. I couldn't see Bianca anywhere, and I saw my mom go into Lara's box. I was going to go there, but at that moment they reproduce the accident, I see how Gallagher turns to the right and then turns left again on the right side of Lara, I give up my intention to go to the box momentarily to go for that son of a bitch
I was a couple of cars away from him when both Eli and Coleman stop me. All I wanted to do was give that guy the beating of his life, because it was obvious the accident had been on purpose.
"Cam, relax. We don't need you to get into trouble right now." Eli tried, but at this moment I didn't care at all "HOW DO YOU PRETEND ME...?" I started and Col puts his hand on my chest "Elisabeth is right...better, why don't you go to Lara's box to see if you discover anything else and to be with her family?"
"Col is right… let's go there." Eli insisted "BUT…" I started "Cam…" Eli said. I sighed and turned to go to Lara's box. I had thousands of thoughts in my head, and the screens kept repeating the accident, over and over again.
"What do you know about Lara?" I asked her "We don't know much. She doesn't answer radio calls" she said, controlling my reaction. "What?" I asked. "They are trying not to think of the worst. They think that, in the impact with Eric, the cable came loose and that's why she doesn't answer."
"The cable doesn't come out that easy…" I replied, "Right now we're all holding on to anything." Before entering Lara's box, I could see how the screens reproduced what was happening in the place where Lara was, but I enter her box.
As soon as I enter it, the tension is palpable in the air, but I walk past the mechanics to where your family was. My mother was hugging both Rita and Carmela, but I don't see Bianca anywhere. I was going to ask Rita where she was when I see her enter the box with people next to her, but I got the feeling she isn't listening to much of what they were saying.
As soon as she sees me, she stops dead and I see how her eyes get wet, so I quickly go to her and hug her. "That stupid…" Bianca said, starting to cry "I know, but don't worry, I'll take care of him personally." I assured Lara's sister "Can you keep hugging me?" she asked and I nodded.
I turned a little so I could see the screens. Luckily, they had already turned the car around, and the other driver, who they said was Eric, was still there looking at Lara's car. The car could be seen quite destroyed, especially on the right side, I just hope nothing has happened to her, because then I would kill Gallagher with my own hands.
"She doesn't answer the radio." said after a while Bianca "What?" I asked "Lara... she didn't answer the radio at any time." Bianca replied "Don't worry, I'm sure she's fine." I tried to tell her so she wouldn't focus on it "Those wires don't come out of the car that easy."
"I know, but that's not what I was referring to." I said, "Then what?" she asked. "From what I saw on the replays, she took a good hit into the barriers, and then the other car hit her car on the same side causing her to roll over a couple of times. Most likely, with so much movement, she would become unconscious."
"Well, I don't want to think about another option." She whispered, "Your sister will be okay." I affirmed. If I knew anything, it's that Lara would fight to return to her family.
The minutes passed and the tension increased. The marshals unscrewed the halo, and the paramedics began to remove it. After a few endless minutes, they managed to get Lara out of the car, and they left her on the spinal board they prepared next to her without removing her helmet at any time and then, securing her head. They tied her up to prevent her from falling when they put her on the stretcher, took her pulse, hooked up a couple of machines and quickly put her in the ambulance.
After a few minutes, someone from the team's security told us where they would take her, so it didn't take long for Rita and Carmela to leave the box. I was going to go with them when Bianca stops me.
"You should stay." My best friend said, and I denied, because I shouldn't. I had to be with my girlfriend "No, I should go with her." I assured "I know, but your team will really care if you don't finish the race."
"I don't give a shit about the team right now." I answered and she denied it, but with a small smile on her face "Lara won't like it if you get into trouble with your team." She assured "And I don't care." I answered sincerely "I can go with them and once you finish the race, you come."
"Mom…" I started, but she denied "I know you can do it. Clear your mind for a few more laps, and then you come. You know Bianca's right." mom replied, and even though I know she's right, it didn't imply I liked the idea "Cameron, the race resumes in twenty minutes. We must talk about strategy."
I sighed deeply and thought for a moment. I'm more than clear Lara would kill me if I got into trouble with the team, but what I wanted most at this moment was to know how she is, and I won't do that while sitting in the car.
"I'll do it on one condition." I replied after a few seconds "Say it." Eli replied, "I want to know how she's at all times." I said and they stared at me "And how are we supposed to do that?"
"You can call me, and I'll let you know on the radio." Eli replied after a few seconds thinking "Do you think your team will say something about Lara's condition?" Bianca asked. "I'll take care of that myself." I assured her.
"Okay, fine, we'll do it." Bianca replied "Thank you Bianca. As things don't look good, I get out of the car, whether or not I finish the race." I replied "Okay. I'm leaving now. I can take you Isa."
"I think it's better if I drive the car." my mother replied, and I could see Bianca wasn't so agreeing "I can do it." She answered and my mother denied "But we better not risk it."
With that, Bianca ran out of the box and before following Bianca, mom tells me to take care of myself and focus. That we don't need any more drama for today and I would do them a favour, to which I nodded, because I know Lara's family cares about me, and they didn't need any more drama for today.
Before going to the car, I went to the wall and told them that whatever was said in the call Eli would have, wouldn't come to the press, because then they were going to have legal problems with me, which I don't think they would like too much. They agreed and I quickly went to the car, I told them to leave me the tires I had since I won't need more.
With ten minutes left, I got in the car and after a few endless minutes, we went out behind the safety car. A few laps later, the race resumed managing to maintain the lead and have information on Lara's condition.
After the race was over, I pulled the car into pit lane, parked it in the lead spot, and Eli was quickly at my side. "Before leaving you have to collect the prize and weigh yourself." Eli started, but I refused, because I wasn't going to waste my time with something like picking up the prize. "I'll weigh myself, but I'm not going to pick up the prize."
"Cameron…" she started, but I raised my hand "I'm not going to go after him, I must go to the hospital to see Lara. You can pick it up for me." I said something abrupt, but right now my only goal was to get to Lara "What? I want to go with you."
"Then come and have someone from the team pick it up. I don't care exactly the fucking prize." I replied again "Okay, go weigh yourself and then change." He replied, "I don't see the need to do so."
"You're going to change. You will take the quickest shower of your life and then I will take you to the hospital, because I'm not going to let you drive, I hope you're more than clear about it." she replied, practically commanding me to do it "I can..." I started "No, you have to hydrate, eat something and you can't do that while you're driving, so I'm going to be the one driving."
"Alright." I said "Perfect, go do all that and I'm going to talk to someone from the team so they can go for your prize."
With that, I quickly went to weigh myself and then made a quick dash to the break room so I could take a shower. Not more than fifteen minutes later, Eli and I were in the car. Me eating the bars she had given me and drinking water, while she was driving through the streets of Spa.
After driving for half an hour, we arrived at the hospital, and I went to the floor where Bianca said they were. Lucky for us we had a place near the entrance, because otherwise I would run like there was no tomorrow.
Once we got to the floor where they are, I could see Rita and Carmela were calmer than they were when I saw them in the box. Bianca was sitting in one of the chairs away from her mother and grandmother, so I go to where she is.
"Did they tell you anything else?" I asked once I sat down next to her "No, they are running a couple more tests on her." she said more subdued than normal "And what did they do to her?" I inquired to get her out of whatever is keeping her inside her mind "She doesn't have any broken ribs and when she woke up in the ER, she seemed to remember things. They would take her for scans to make sure everything was okay with her head."
"That's great news." I said with a small smile on my face "Yeah." she admitted, but something was on her mind. "So why are you here all alone?" I asked, "I prefer they continue with the joy they have at this moment than scare them again with my mood."
"But Lara is fine." I assured "I know, but the scare she gave me the moment I saw what Gallagher did to my sister... And then Eric... She didn't answer the radio, and that's something they don't know." Bianca said taking a deep breath at the end "You would have thought the worst."
"Well, I thought about it for a moment, but then I thought about her… if she had a serious injury that wouldn't allow her to run, it would be the worst…" she began "You know better than anyone these cars are super safe. It's difficult for something to happen to us."
"But not impossible, and that stupid Gallagher hit her on purpose." She now said angrily "I know, but do you want me to tell you something that can cheer you up?" I asked with the smile widening on my face "You don't lose anything by trying it."
"They disqualified him from the race." I replied, "He shouldn't even be competing anymore." she protested, and I nodded "That's what I'm going to do." I said "Wait… what?" Bianca replied, looking in my direction. "They opened an investigation on that guy for all the accidents he had with Lara. Some of the ones Gallagher had with Lara could be said to have been a racing accident, but not today's… He may lose his license and face criminal charges for what he did today."
"Wow, that would be great." Bianca said now laughing "It is. They were going to check the cameras of the cars, the one of the turns and the sensors of the car and the track to determine it, but the recordings out on television would be more than enough to end his career.
"Great, I have to tell Lara this." And just at that moment, a gurney appears with a couple of doctors around it. As soon as I look at Lara, I see how a small smile forms on her face, which causes one to appear on mine as well. She's fine… Lara was fine.
After a few minutes in which they didn't let us enter the room, the doctors came out and didn't even ask about her relatives. "Is something wrong with my daughter?" Rita asked. "Considering how bad the accident was, she only has a sprained right wrist, and a bruised right knee and chest."
"Thank god she's fine." Carmela whispered. "She came out fine." said the doctor with a big smile. "Then why didn't she talk on the radio?" asked Bianca now. "With the spinning and probably the shock of the moment, made her lose consciousness. We will keep her under observation for a couple of hours, and depending on how it goes, we can discharge her today."
"Anything she can't do?" Her sister asked again "Let her take at least a couple of weeks off. The sprain with a week will be healed. The bruises on her chest will take a little longer to heal, but we'll give her pills for the pain."
"Can we come and see her?" Carmela asked "Sure, she's waiting for you." With that, we all enter the room, and we see her more incorporated than when she entered and with a big smile on her face. Rita, Carmela and Bianca go to her to hug her and the moment their arms surround her, she complains and carefully pushes them away.
"I'm fine. The worst of all was the wrist, and it's just a sprain." Lara said as if it were nothing "Pensamos que che pasara algo peor. (We thought something worse happened to you)" Carmela replied, giving her a kiss on the temple.
"Grandma, I'm great. Seriously, if it wasn't for all the poking I got, I'm sure I'd have a serious headache." she said laughing, but stopped soon, I guess because of the discomfort in her chest "Doiche moito a rodilla e o peito, Lariña? (Does your knee and chest hurt a lot, Lariña?)"
"Right now, I don't notice it. My neck bothers me a bit, but it's normal." She replied "Non sabes o agradecida de que esteas ben. (You don't know how glad I am that you're okay)" Rita said with a small smile on her face "I am, and I'm sure I'll be out of here in a few hours."
"At least tell me I can give you a kiss." Carmela inquired, even though she had already done so, "You can give me whatever you want, Grandma." At that moment her mother and grandmother started giving her kisses all over her face, which makes her start laughing, but stops because of the bruises on his chest. I approached the gurney and stood at its feet to give them space.
"I have to tell you something you might like, Lara." Bianca said, her smile growing larger with each passing moment. "What?" Lara asked curiously "They didn't let him finish the race... they disqualified him..."
"Great news." My girlfriend answered with a big smile "But not the best." Bianca countered. "No?" she asked now confused "Nope. Here your boyfriend said they were going to investigate the accidents he had with you… with all the images and technology they can use…"
"Straight to the point." Lara said impatiently, "He is certain to be kicked out of the competition and face criminal charges for today." Bianca said with a laugh. "Oh, that's wonderful."
Her smile widened more, and it's at that moment she looks at me. I can see a sparkle appear in her eyes I've never seen before, and it's at this moment I realize I love this girl more than anyone in the world.
"Mom, why don't we go so you and Grandma can eat something? You look a bit pale." Bianca said after looking away from Lara "That may mean they need some sugar after all the emotions they went through." Eli said. "Will you join us? You know better than anyone that they should eat right now or not."
"Gladly." answered my best friend "It wouldn't hurt me to eat something too." Eli patted me on the back and then left with my mom, Lara's Grandma and mom, and Bianca. The latter gave her a kiss on the forehead and went out with the other three, leaving us alone. Lara stretched out her unbandaged hand in my direction, which I took and approached that side of the stretcher.
"You won?" she asked, and I nodded "Shit, you shrink my mattress." she said sighing "You just had an accident and you're already thinking of going back? Besides, you already won the title, you don't need more points."
"Well of course. We both know those cars are more than safe, and what happened today was an accident. Those things happen…" she started, but I denied it, because what had happened to her hadn't been a normal accident "That accident wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Gallagher."
"Maybe, but I could have caught a puddle and hit the barriers." she said casually "That could be." I nodded "Better tell me how the other pilot is." she asked. "Eric is fine. What's more, he wanted to go to the car with you, but the doctors and a marshal stopped him." I replied "I'm not surprised. What surprises me is he hasn't done anything to achieve that goal."
"Did you want him to get it?" I asked confused "No, of course not, but I know Eric and I know he would do whatever it took to get to where he was." replied "I hope nothing bad."
"That could have ended in a fistfight." Lara assured "Eric?" I asked, because it was difficult for me to see Eric using his fists, and I'm not saying because of his physical complexion or anything like that, but because of his personality "I know, I know, the calmest man on the grid punching around, but I can assure you when he has a hundred adrenaline running through his veins, he changes completely."
"I hope I don't meet that Eric then." I sincerely said "I also hope the same." she replied "Lara, I have to tell you something important." I started, because since I had seen accident on the screens, I hadn't been able to get it out of my mind "I hear you."
"After what happened today... I don't deny it, I was afraid I had lost you..." I started "I wouldn't go to that extreme, but I understand what you mean." She answered "The thing is, I've been thinking about what I feel for you for a couple of weeks... you make me feel like I've never felt with a girl before... I admit it, my thoughts were a mess... but after the accident... I realized I couldn't live without you… or it would be too hard for me to do so…"
"Cam, don't worry, I have all the time in the world to listen to what you have to say." she said laughing softly "I'm rambling again right?" I asked. "Just a little bit, but I like listening to you talk, so I really don't care."
"I just don't know how to tell you." I replied "Well, I'll give you a couple of seconds to think about it, because I also have something to tell you." she replied with a big smile "What?" I asked a little confused "I love you."
The moment those words leave her mouth, mine is left open in amazement. I didn't expect her to tell me the same thing I want to tell her, especially so calmly and with a big smile on her face.
I don't know how much time has really passed, I just know when I feel Lara's hand let go of mine and end up on my chin, it's as if I came out of that trance and I focus my gaze on her again.
"I'm serious, I don't know why you seem so surprised." Lara said without the smile disappearing from her face "No... I didn't expect it." I sincerely said "Well, I do. Everything you do for me... what you did in my village... no one would have ever done for me, and you did it without hesitating for a single second. You flew in from London just to do it and I know I couldn't get anyone like you. If it did something today, it was to realize we shouldn't waste time thinking about what we want, we should be direct and take advantage of life because anything can happen. I don't want to waste my life with you, Cam."
"I love you too Lara." She approached me and gave me a kiss. I put my hand on her knee as she ran her hand around the back of my neck. We don't separate until we run out of air, but we stay with our heads united.
"I already knew." She responded with a smile, "Wow, what a confidence you have, Gallego." I replied laughing "Say what you want, but I knew it." she affirmed "Well, now I will always confirm it to you." Her smile widened a little more and gave me a little kiss. "I love the idea."
She gave me a little kiss and lay back on the stretcher. A few minutes later, they all came back from the cafeteria, and we spent the afternoon talking until the doctor said Lara could go home.
When we left the hospital, we were going to go to the hotel so Lara could rest, but she decided to go to the circuit where practically everyone would be and probably the press, but she wanted to take her things and reassure the team.
Bianca had offered to drive us, but I knew Lara wasn't going to have a great time in the car, so I decided to go with her in the back. I don't know when they decided to rent a nine-seater van, but both Lara and I got into the back of everyone, and I don't know what happened, but she fell asleep in a few minutes.
"Wow, those pills really make her sleepy. I don't think I've ever seen her so calm in a street car." said Bianca "Bianca..." Rita began "Isn't that true, Mom?" she asked and their mom nodded.
"Why doesn't she go calm in a street car?" asked my mother, and that wasn't something she needed to ask, I would tell her later if necessary "Mom, don't ask…" I started, but Rita denied "It's okay Cameron, really."
"You don't have to answer the question Rita, really." I said sincerely, in the end I have no idea what was going through her mind on that topic "Don't worry, we'll be fine." she said with a smile on her face "Cam is right, if it bothers you to talk about it you don't have to say it." my mother assured.
"It doesn't bother us; it was an accident." Rita said like it was no big deal "Accident?" my mother asked, confused. "The reason Lara doesn't feel comfortable in a streetcar is because when she was little, she was in the car with her father, and they had an accident. She watched as her father died."
"Oh my... I'm sorry." my mother said "Like I said, it was an accident. Nothing could be done and at least my husband didn't suffer." Rita assured "That was the best."
"Well, yes, but since that one it's practically impossible to put my daughter in a car who doesn't go three hundred per hour." she assured "Or on that demon bike." Carmel protested.
The rest of the way we did it in silence, and almost two hours later, we arrived at the circuit. They all got out of the car, while I unfastened my seatbelt and Lara's and began to move her gently to avoid hurting her.
"Lara... we're here..." I started, but she did nothing but moan "Mm, let me... I want to sleep..." She moans again "And soon you will be able to, we come to get your things, we assure your team you're okay and then we go to sleep, okay?" I asked "Mmm... right now I'm hating you honey." I couldn't help but laugh, if it had been in other circumstances, I would have stared at her dumbstruck for calling me honey, but right now it wasn't possible.
"It's what you wanted to do, honey." I replied, "Don't even remind me." My girlfriend protested, "Okay. How about we go, do all that quickly, and then go to the hotel to sleep?" I asked and she looked up, meeting mine "Will you stay?" Lara asked. "If that's what you want, of course I'll do it."
"Then let's get this shit over with." I got out of the van and then held on to the seat so she could do the same. Once we got out of this, I closed the door and ended up putting my arm around her hip because she almost fell. She assured me it was nothing, that it was from the knee and in a few minutes, she would be able to walk on her own, but I wasn't going to risk her falling and doing more damage to herself.
