Young Master System

"Young Master? What does my reputation have to do with being fit as a Young Master? Aren't all of my siblings young masters? What's so special about this Seventh Young Master in particular?"

[I believe it would be quicker for me to just tell you what it is you will be doing rather than to answer all the questions you may have.]

"So now we're finally talking about it? If it's something that I don't condone then I will have to refuse. I don't care if it's the Heavens, I refuse to break my morals."

[Do not worry, if we were to need someone to do such undesirable actions, we would have just chosen someone more appropriate for the job. There would be no benefit in choosing someone uncooperative no matter how efficient they might be.]

Leon calmed down a little when he heard that. While he might have said those things with such bravado, he could not deny the fear he had at the thought of refusing the Heavens.

[Your statement was actually something I loved to hear since it was your unwavering will that made you so desirable for this job. But no, back to the matter at hand. Your task can be deduced from my name.]

"Young Master System? I'm guessing you don't mean to act like some rich brat. You said the original was chosen for a reason. The only thing special about him is his trash reputation. I don't understand how that's supposed to help nurture those Heavens' Chosen you were talking about earlier."

[Young Master doesn't just refer to your status in this case. It also relates to how you will act and confront the Heavens' Chosen. The term Young Master is a term used to refer to those rich second generation who abuse their wealth and authority to bully the weak and poor. Most Heavens' Chosen come from such a background and become prime targets for such 'Young Masters'.]

"Wait, I thought I was supposed to help the Chosen, why am I suddenly bullying them? Infighting? Have they been forsaken by the Heavens? Don't tell me I got dragged into some Heavenly Politics."

[Everything is under the control of the Heavens so there is no politics to speak of. While there might be those more favored by the Heavens it does not mean those at the bottom are forsaken. Even the lowest tiered Chosen stands above the masses. No, the Heavens believe that conflict will help temper the chosen and make them stronger. This is not just for how your situation is being handled, but cultivating in general is to overcome adversity.]

"Alright, I can understand how competition can be useful, but why this whole Young Master charade? Surely there's a better method?"

[I really wish you had taken reading as a hobby, things would be so much easier. The Young Master formula is a tried and true method that has almost always brought about successful results. Now we are just introducing more control. What we need you to do is antagonize the Heavens' Chosen and bring about some kind of improvement or growth from them. However, in the end you will be required to lose to the Chosen.]

"Wait, why do I have to lose?"

[You're not supposed to be some memorable moment in their life. Instead you will be a stepping stone that helps bring about growth. The area of improvement can vary and will decide what kind of rewards you will receive, while the quality depends upon the degree of the improvement. The type of conflict also plays a role in your reward.]

"Alright, I kind of get what I'm supposed to do. But, hey don't groan; like I was saying, what's your role? Everything you've said so far is all on me. I get you're supposed to be the middleman between me and the Heavens, but why are you stuck with me and not some messenger that gives me my tasks and rewards?"

[The only reason you ask that is because you are still ignorant of what a system is. I swear others would be ecstatic at the idea of getting a system. To answer your question, I have certain features that will make your job easier."

"Wait a moment, make my job easier and your called system, are you supposed to be a computer? Can I connect to the internet through you?"

[It would be better if I just showed you.]

Suddenly a screen popped up in front of Leon, taking him by surprise. He took a moment to look over the screen and noticed several boxes with words in them. Was it really a computer and this was the monitor? Leon decided to go through the boxes from top to bottom. He looked at the first box with the words Heavens' Chosen on it and tapped it.

The content on the screen changed and now he can only see a sentence on the screen. 'The next Heavens' Chosen will arrive in 14 days.' The only other thing on the screen was a back arrow. So he had fourteen days until he had to carry out his task? But was there really nothing else? Just a deadline? Maybe more information will appear once the Chosen arrives.

Leon tapped on the back arrow and was brought back to the initial screen. He then moved on to the second box, Profile. The screen changed again but this time there was more information compared to the Heavens' Chosen box.

Name: Leon Rain

Social Status: Seventh Young Master of the Rain Clan

Cultivation: None

Physique: None

Bloodline: None

Talent: None

Leon was speechless after he had looked at the garbage profile page. "Umm system, isn't this body kind of… useless? Why is everything filled in as none? Aren't the Chosen supposed to be, oh I don't know, freaks of nature? How am I supposed to bully them with this trash body?"

[Again this body was chosen on purpose. Not only does it fit the role of Young Master perfectly, but this body allows you to start off with a fresh slate rather than one that has already been ruined. To be honest the Heavens have only invested so much into this project. It was impossible to get a body with a high starting value, so a body like this was the next best thing. Also as long as you achieve outstanding results then you can use the rewards to improve this body.]

So the Heavens weren't even fully invested into this whole 'Young Master' roleplay? The system turned out to be just some Project Manager? Why does he feel more comfortable after being told these things? Ah, he gets it now. This is something he had gotten used to in his previous life, he's just slipping back into a familiar role.

He tapped on the back button to return to the starting screen and moved onto the third option on the screen, only to find himself still on the starting screen. He blinked before tapping on the button again, and again. Still he was stuck on the screen with multiple buttons.

[Don't bother, the rest of the choices are currently unavailable to you. They will not become accessible to you until your first conflict with a Heavens' Chosen has been resolved with positive results.]

Leon looked over the buttons that were unavailable: shop, techniques, and training tools. "Wait, all of these look really helpful, why are they blocked off?" Was he being bullied? Were they making things hard for the new guy?

[You have a very active imagination. No, the reason you are being barred from these is to see what you can do with your own power. The first encounter will be a test for you. To be honest I am currently being restricted in how I can help you. The test is not only for you, but also for the Young Master Project. The Heavens will not invest into a project where good results are only based on how much is being dumped into it, but cannot stand on its own feet without support.]

[This project will be considered a failure if you are incapable of bringing about results with your own two hands. If you really desire to have nothing to do with this project then just do nothing. Allow the Chosen to come and go and to never have any interaction with you. You will be sent back to your own world, while I'll probably be reformatted and become some other type of system entirely.]

The somber attitude of the system influenced Leon. He thought about his old life, truly thought about the life he had lived. Was that a life he wanted to return to? A life where the only thing that mattered to him was a job in a company that did not value him. To be taken advantage of by those above him and to be ostracized by those around him. To live a life truly alone, one where no one was waiting for him.

Sure he had plenty of time to make changes, he was only 24 years old. He could change jobs and try to find some place that truly valued him. Go out and socialize with those around him instead of just focusing on his work. He could even slack off a little and try to get along with his boss instead of coming across as a threat to their position.

But why? Why does he have to change? All he did was live by his ideal. All he did was his best, so why did others not appreciate the effort he had given? Both this new life and his previous one had no strong connection holding him down, so why not go for the one that seemed to have more potential? This new world was one where he could live by his ideal and be rewarded. Well all of this rumination was pointless anyway.

He was never someone who could fail a task given to him in the first place.
