His words didn't entirely make sense; I wasn't sure that they ever did. He spoke in long, unpaused bursts and sometimes I needed a second to replay and reorganize his words in my head.

/"You said she was pretty last night,/" I reminded him, but I felt myself relax a little. /"You don't fancy her? Not even a little bit?/"

Asa glanced down at his dinosaur, jabbing his finger inside its open mouth. A look of concentration had taken over his expression before he shrugged and shook his head. /"She is really pretty. I like her smile. I want her to like me and be my friend and paint my nails, but I don't want to kiss her./"

/"You want your nails painted?/" was all I got out of that.

Asa nodded eagerly. /"Yes. Quinn had some nail varnish that glowed in the dark. She bought it for Halloween and she paints my nails with it whenever I stay over so I can be a monster./"
