Alive Once More

The sword was still buzzing in her hand, and it was heavy so she just kept on shifting it back and forth on her stomach to keep her weight even as she floated. The bow that Medina had vanished, because from where Felicity was at she could no longer see it.

"Medina!" she called. "Where did your affinity weapon go?"

Medina's green eyes shifted over to her and showed Felicity her wrist. The slim grey band with vibrant emerald jewels glinted, and Felicity cocked her head to the side. "The bracelet?"

"I was planning on giving the bracelet to you guys later," Medina said.

Felicity hummed. "What do they do?"

"They can recall the weapons."

"What?" Felicity exclaimed. "The affinity weapons just vanish?"

"I don't know the mechanics, but the bracelets work just like the grey freezing tubes that they are stored in."

Felicity nodded and knew that she couldn't press any further, because that was clearly out of Medina's expertise. The new materials that had properties that broke the laws of the universe were probably set in action.

The loud scraping noise as the helicopter's door was shifted open made Felicity tilt her head up to make eye contact with an extremely furious Leo. His cold murky eyes narrowed in on her only for him to toss down an extremely long rope to be cast down and plunge deep into the waters nearly missing Felicity by a thread.

With a pause to process the moment, Felicity whipped back around only for Medina to usher for her to go first. Felicity waded through the water only a couple strokes before getting a grip on the coarse rope, wrapping her fingers tightly around the dry material as if it were her life support once more.

She got herself out of the water, and she grunted as she straddled the rope slowly inching her way up. Felicity had no idea as to how she was supposed to climb up with her sword in tow, but she hugged the rope with the hilt of her sword.

Careful to not let go of both the sword and the rope, she pulled herself up with much strain. Her hands were wet, so she wasn't able to get much traction on the rope, instead feeling every single thick brush which was the recipe for blisters to come.

Felicity bit down on her lip, the sharp taste of copper in her mouth, as every part of her body started to strain with the amount of effort it took to climb the rope. Pain was in the back of her mind with her getting close to the helicopter with every push.

There was no use in stopping for a break because that would also use energy that was chasing to be drained. Pausing for a second or two to catch her breath that was coming out raggedly was all that she could manage.

Felicity knew that the scraping of her hands to get to the top wasn't going to be pretty. Gritting down on her teeth, she knew that her flesh was torn, leaving behind patches of blood on the rope as she fought for her life with the energy that she had left by the time Felicity got all the way to the top.

She eventually got one foot over the other, trying her best to push herself up into the helicopter cabin after what felt like a lifetime, and shoved her sword overboard which made Melissa squeak out of surprise.

Leo didn't wait for Felicity to get over the tough mend with him once being able to reach her, grasping her arm tightly only adding to the bruises she was collecting along with other wounds.

The force of him yanking her up made her onto her back, and she just flopped there, her chest rising and falling quickly as she gasped for air with her hands burning from the scratches she sustained.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Leo enunciated calmly.

Felicity swallowed thickly. "Help me up, please."

Leo pulled her shaking extended hand, and Melissa came to wrap Felicity up in a dry towel before rubbing the towel onto her head to dry her hair. It didn't take long at all with her new length, and Felicity breathed out a lengthy drag knowing that she had made it out of an engyure alive once more.

"Are you okay, Felicity?" Melissa whispered.

She gave a tiny reassuring smile. "I'm fine."

Leo dug around the storage underneath the seating to grab the medical kit, and he popped it open before wrapping her up quickly. Felicity cringed when he disinfected some before taping because most of their wounds were bound to get anyway.

She patted his shoulder after gritting out in pain, and he pulled back to look at her. Felicity caught her breath with sweat beading on her forehead, and she tapped his hard chest which was practically vibrating in anger.

He shook his head but took her silent apology. She dropped her forehead to his shoulder as he continued to work and clean her up which she was extremely grateful for because her limbs were also trembling from the overexertion.

Medina made her way inside the helicopter way faster than Felicity had done, and Tatum pulled off his headset to ask, "Are we ready to take off?"

Medina shoved the door closed. "Yes. What are the backup choppers for?"

"We have gotten on the radar that there is a charged engyure opening up soon. It is diminutive but rapidly spreading," Tatum replied. "I don't have a good feeling about this, so I called some backups in the area in case."

"That's fine," Medina nodded. "Where are they?"

"Less than a hundred miles northeast from our positioning."

Medina paused. "It's too close."

"Exactly," Tatum said as he punched out some buttons.

"We should head there."

"And close it?"

"Yes. With the backup that you called."

Tatum nodded. "The scope is too large on your own. It's good that we have backup."

Medina sighed. "Yes. We might as well since we're already here."

"That's fair," Tatum said as he slipped on his headset.
