The hour went by smoothly. As smooth as a helicopter in rough air could let, of course. The bumpy ride added to the chaos inside the helicopter cabin since it was combined with the loud noise and screeching.
The crimson color bleeding into the rest of the sky over time was only one sign that they were all getting close to the impending storm that was to come. The reds and the blacks from the storm clouds come together with lightning flashing overhead.
It didn't take long for the rain to start pouring down in copious amounts. The splattering of the rain was harsh against their tiny aircraft with the crashing sound only from the thunder that was coming in hot.
Felicity could see the apprehensiveness in Melissa's eyes, but there was nothing that she could offer her anymore. The empty words of encouragement started to hold no weight as their journey back home kept on getting further and further away.
The helicopter took a dramatic dip that made Felicity's stomach drop, and for that split second it felt as though the helicopter was going to drop. It didn't do good for Melissa's end, who shrieked out in horror at their demise that could be around the corner.
Leo put a hand out to stop Felicity when she was about to stand to address the situation only for the whole aircraft stuttered once more. Tatum ripped off his headset. "Sorry guys. A little bad weather got nothing on us."
Medina gave him a skeptical glance. "Do you know where we're going?"
"Of course," Tatum answered. "I'm the one flying the chopper am I not?"
"Then why aren't you looking at the screen?"
"The screen that went black?"
There was a pause. Tatum shook his head. "It's fine. We don't need any directions to head into an engyure anyways."
Medina was tapping her foot impatiently before she sighed. "Hand over the radio. Let's see where the backup is at."
"You don't need to move a muscle for it to be at your service," Tatum replied smoothly.
Medina gave him another look that would have made Felicity laugh, but she was getting a bad feeling that they were about to step into something that they weren't supposed to. Felicity stuck her hand only for Leo to pass her the water bottle.
Her eyebrows raised when Leo gave her exactly what she wanted. "Our telepathy is on another level."
Leo snickered. "We're in the feels now that you've realized that you're in the wrong."
"Hey, what? I already apologized," Felicity said as she weaved her hands together in her lap. "We have nothing to fear."
"We have everything to fear."
She met his clear eyes. "You're right."
"You're doing better at admitting your wrongdoings. It's kind of crazy how much of a hypocrite you are," Leo said slowly which made Felicity choke.
"I can't tell if you're insulting me or not," Felicity bit out as she unscrewed the lid of the water bottle to take a sip. It was true that she was doing everything that she said that she would never do. "What can I say? It's called character growth."
"Or maybe we're all going just going insane," Leo said.
She wasn't going to deny that as well. It was true, and it was clearly reflected in her actions up to this point. When people were backed into a corner, it wasn't likely that they were going to make logical decisions.
Felicity was going to make another comment when static came over the radio system. The sharp crackling rackets were going to linger in Felicity's mind going onward after hearing the desperation that was clinging to her ears.
Medina slammed her hand into her radio, bidding it to do its forsaken work. "Dammit. Why does everything unfold this way?"
"Take a breather, Major," Tatum said calmly. "They can't be too far behind."
Medina frowned. "Look at the engyure. It's huge. Think about how many of them could be coming out of it. It's off the charts of anything that we've ever seen. We can't just be a sitting duck for who knows how long."
Despite one of the screens being black, the other one to Tatum's left-hand side certainly wasn't. From the vantage point that both she and Leo were sitting at, Felicity's jaw dropped open when she saw so many red dots appear on the screen while Leo tensed up.
Felicity didn't know why Medina was so agitated in the sense that she was going to lose her mind. Realistically, she was agitated as well with their slim chances of getting back safely with the storm conditions and everything else against them, but here it was something different.
It was as if all of their chances were already locked in place. The look of doom on Medina's face was enough to solidify the fact that there was a chance that they weren't going home today seriously, and Leo nodded at her when he made that connection too.
"What is happening," Felicity demanded. "Tell me what is happening right now."
"We don't have time for this, Felicity," Medina answered. "Sit down."
Leo ran a hand through his hair. "Yeah? Then tell us what those red dots on the screen are."
Tatum tapped the glass screen with his spare hand. "The signal is going crazy. I can't contact anyone, and the same is true for the other side."
"What's the game plan then?" Leo questioned. "Once they see you jump they jump?"
Medina squeezed the bridge of her nose. "I really don't know what to do with you guys."
Felicity smirked. "I mean, you're the one who insisted we be here. We're contributing to our best ability."
There was a buzz in the radio with the whisper of words which made Medina reach over to twist some knobs. The gibberish came back only for a second, but then the static returned overhead.
"I don't think that is normal..." Felicity stressed. "You can't just..."
There was a sudden thump up the top of the helicopter that made them all startle. It sounded heavy and made the whole aircraft falter for a moment.
Felicity froze with her eyes widening in realization with her mouth closing as she was just about to make another demand while Leo put a finger up to his lips with her name on his lips.
