Loose ends

[Third person POV]

He had thought he had done a good job leaving his dead wife after she gave him yet another girl, a useless girl. After hearing about her death, he thought good riddance another useless woman who can't give him a single son.

When he saw his daughter holding her sister that day, he had snorted at them, yes there was a time he loved her, the time where those paintings were selling like hot cakes and the money were enough to take his precious legal wife, Josephine, out on vacations.

"What did she say?" Josephine asked her husband, "how much is for dowry?"

He could not help but feel like a failure when he saw videos of her and Clayton Beckett on gossip sites, he had thought the heavens were given him a sign.

"She chased me out, but worry not I will get the money," he watches his wife pouting, they had been running low on money since both do not have a job at the moment.

"You need to fix this Oren's fees are very expensive we need our son to go to the best school. Why don't we sell our situation to the media?"

"I already have the custody plan; it is as good as done."

"Are you out of your mind? You want me to raise that woman's child, the woman you put me and your son on the back burner for?" Josephine screams, after her husband returned a few months ago she was overjoyed, he was finally hers and hers alone, now he wants her to raise another woman's brat.

"It is just until we get enough money from Kaleah's loaded husband." He said but before she could respond he saw something on the news, "turn the volume up."

Josephine rolls her eyes before taking the remote to turn the volume up. 'Good morning, my name is Perlie Cohan, and I am here with the news that make the world go around, celebrity news.'

"Oh… your stupid daughter is in the headline," Josephine says, "I know, that is why I told you to turn the volume up."

"On today's peak entertainment news, billionaire and hunk Clayton Kai Beckett ties the knot with his mysterious gold digger this morning at the courthouse, a small peek at their wedding attires."

"What?" Ore roars, Clayton not considering his call for a dowry makes him angry.

"Seems Mr. Beckett will not hand that dowry money anymore huh?"

"Shut up Josephine, I have enough problems, I will go to the lawyer tomorrow about the child support and…..." 'Knock-knock-knock'.

"Who might that be?" Josephine says moving to the door, her jaw drops to the crust of the earth.

"Good afternoon, Mrs. Huxley is your husband in?"

"Um… well… yes he is in," she could not understand why he was here, "come in please, this way." She shows the gentlemen into her house.

"Huh…. "You what are you doing in my house," Ore shouts the minute he sees Clayton walk in.

"Sit down this will take a while," Clayton says siting down, "I am sure you know Mr. Fredrick Black over there."

"Hey, you are my lawyer what are you doing with this man?"

"Mr. Huxley, please sit down and listen to Mr. Beckett, if you do not want to humiliate yourself and me in the process you better listen to him." Fredrick says in a low tone.

Ore rolls his eyes before sitting down, "let me make you tea," Josephine says before bolting to the kitchen.

"So, you finally want to pay dowry?"

"No, Mr. Black," Clayton says before ordering Ore's lawyer to give him some papers.

"What are these? Huh?"

"Those papers are for you to sign your parental rights over to Mr. Clayton Beckett and Kaleah Beckett,"

"What? You said the custody way was better,"

"But that is when I didn't know that Zoey Huxley is neither Clayton nor Kaleah's daughter but yours, you are Zoey's only remaining parent thus you are not eligible for child support."

"What? We could have winged it you know," Ore said making Fredrick roll his eyes.

"Sir, you see that guy over there," he points at one of the men Clayton had brought with him, he was a tall dark-skinned gentleman wearing a blue suit, "that is Joshua Carter, the best lawyer in the country, if you want to take this bogus case to caught, he will not only destroy us but he will make sure we pay for it."

Joshua lets out a devilish smile at Ore, "Mr. Beckett had agreed to not take this to court if you sign away your parental rights over to him and his wife, and never bother them."

Ore sighs, a rock and a hard place indeed, he had thought that he would extort the rich family of millions only to lose miserably. He picks the pen up to sign the papers, "hurry up, my wife had a bad day today and I need to get home soon." Clayton urged, 'ugh... this jerk is getting what he wants.' Ore cursed.

He signs away to the last part with a heavy heart before asking, "about the dowry, can I take him to court," the fool asks so boldly.

"Well, it is tradition that the groom pays dowry, and you can sure to demand it," Fredrick explains making Ore light up with happiness.

"Mr. Black, your client owes my client Mrs. Beckett a total of 150 245$ worth of paintings she sold and he pocketed the money, do you really want to go to court? Plus, we can sue for abandoning his infant daughter a few months ago."

Fredrick freezes at this, "Mr. Huxley, I don't think you will win the dowry case either."

"So, I get no money?"

"Yes, you get no money," Clayton says with a smirk, "this better be the last time I see you Mr. Huxley."

"Huh… you just take off two of my biggest trash of my hands and you look so smug."

Clayton had balled his fist to punch Ore in the face before Joshua's warning gaze, "you know, I am in a good mood today since I just married a wonderful woman so I will be merciful."

Clayton stands to leave with the other three men he came with, Cain his assistant already briefing him on what he is to do next.

Ore was fuming angry after the men left, he had lost all his ways to get money, Kaleah was not going to give him money and now her rich husband was not paying dowry, he had lost completely.
