Air Of Warning

Rachael looked at the spoon in her hand. Her grip tightened around it as she frowned deeply. Ever since that man caught up with her and brought her back here, she has been doing nothing but sighing in defeat. The punishment she got was being locked in this wide but empty room. It wasn't that empty because there was a bed and table, plus a black curtain that made the room look dark even when it was dawn. She wondered if he purposefully put her in this room to punish her even more.

Her phobia was darkness, ever since that night her life got ruined in that dark room. She could barely stand it when it got too dark, and she hated the lonely feeling it gave her, it made her feel like someone was after her.

She sighed and dropped the spoon back on the table before standing up. She hissed immediately, and she looked at her twisted ankle.

She remembered how she tried to escape from that man but got her ankle twisted and even the thought of it made her grimace, especially the way he effortlessly tossed her over his shoulder and brought her here, locking her to ensure that she remained in here.

Rachael scoffed as she looked at the door again, and just then the sound of someone twitching the key behind the door made her alert. She grabbed the spoon and hid it under her cloth before running to the bed and tossing the blanket over her body.

The door opened and someone stepped in. Was it the maid? She wondered.

A lady has been bringing food to her ever since she came here, but she always pretended to be asleep just to avoid seeing or talking to anyone here. So, she still didn't know the lady who kept bringing food to her.

The lady seemed to have been delayed in her room today, unlike some other days when she'll just get in and out without wasting a moment there.

Meanwhile, the lady was confused as she saw only a plate of food still covered and untouched, yet she couldn't see the spoon, and she was certain that she brought the food with a spoon or was she wrong?

She looked back at the lady who laid stiffly on the bed and her eyes narrowed, but she shrugged after a while. Maybe she forgot to bring a spoon, but she was sure that wasn't why the lady refused to eat because that was how she refused to eat anything she brought.

Rachael sighed softly when the door was pulled open. Finally! She mused inwardly.

She sat up and stared at the table that was empty now. Why can't they just leave her alone?

She walked to the door and tried her luck again to see if the door was mistakenly left unlocked, and to her greatest surprise, the door was really left unlocked.

Rachael gasped, her eyes wide open while she thought of what to do. She gently pulled it as she tried to avoid any sound. She successfully opened it, and she popped her head from the little space to scan outside in case anyone was coming.

Once she found out that the place was clear, she opened the door widely and hastily walked out while trying to be careful. She looked around worriedly while contemplating where to follow, her left or her right.

She was in a dilemma, but then decided to go with the left. She walked hurriedly and ran down the stairs quickly.

She heard noises in the big living room and her feet froze on the spot. She slowly peeked from where she stood to see who was there, only to see armed men sitting together while some stood as they laughed at something. Their carefree attitude made her heart beat increase. They probably had everything under control.

She couldn't go forward because she was sure going to get caught by these men. They were bulky and strong, and they were dressed like thugs.

Maybe she should go back, she concluded and took a step back but froze when she stepped on something, most likely a can. Her eyes went wide open while her hands flew to cover her mouth that was also opened in shock.

The place suddenly became dead silent.

"What is that?" She heard one of them ask.

"Go check," another suggested, and before she could comprehend what was happening, she heard treading feet approaching her way.

She looked around helplessly and saw a door to a room on the left. She quickly removed her leg from the can and rushed to the door as she pushed it open and got in.

She backed away from the door slowly after locking it. Her hands were in the air as if surrendering to her fate while she kept stepping backwards.

She spontaneously turned her head to the side and saw a bed, which she immediately rushed over to and hid herself under the blanket. This side of the room was dimmer, and she signed in hopes that it would be to her advantage.

She heard the twisting sound of the doorknob. Feet ensued, and before she could think of anything, the light went on and her heart jumped into her mouth. Someone pulled the blanket open, and she jolted back in shock.

"Please don't hurt me!" She screamed as covered her face with her hands. However, it was nothing but absolutely silent she got in return.

She creased her face as she became confused. She slowly removed her hands from her face and gradually lifted her head.

Her jaw dropped when her eyes saw someone she least expected in front of her.

She could hardly believe what was happening, and the person stared back at her with wide eyes that instantly went back to their normal size.

Rachael's gaze strolled down on the person's body, and her eyes widened even more like a saucer when she saw the towel that was wrapped around the lower part of the masculine body in front of her.

Water dripping slowly from the person's hair and down to the bare upper body that made her feel starved

She subconsciously swallowed her saliva as she salivated on the person's body.

"What are you doing here?" A deep voice asked, and she quickly snapped back to her sanity. She stood up hastily and tried to get up from the bed, but a hand came around her waist and tossed her down on the bed harshly.

Her heart skipped a beat as she perceived the fresh scent of the person mixed with the air of warning.
