Chapter 10- Aricrasy System of Government

"Please make sure to take care of him." In front of a gate, Lage said seriously to Zernon.

"Don't worry, let's hug goodbye." Zernon moved closer, his hands already open for an embrace.

"N-never mind." Fear flashed briefly on Lage's face as he hurriedly backed away and flashstepped into the distance.

Zernon stared at his receding figure with confusion, stupefied at his strange reaction.

He had seen the fear that appeared for a short moment on his face and asked himself somberly 'Am I really that scary?'

...

"That Zaren bastard still has the gall to disturb me when I went shopping, I am going to skin him next

time!" Taniyah grinded her teeth in annoyance, it looked like Zaren had pestered her again and she was

fuming with rage and vexation.

"Why do you dislike him so much?" Fatty Zhen asked in confusion, his informal tone indicating their long familiarity.

Taniyah stayed silent for a moment before replying "It's because of our clans."

"What does that mean?" Midoriya asked.

"…I actually come from the southern region, the Light Star Domain but I left home precisely because of this, but this annoying guy is still pissing me off." Taniyah said lividly with a scrunched up face, before

continuing: "The Light Star Domain runs on an Aricrasy System of Government."

"Aricrasy system of government?" Fatty Zhen asked in confused, narrowed eyes.

"You don't know Aricrasy?" Taniyah stared at him in wonder but seeing Fatty Zhen's 'Why should I know boring things like this?' expression, she shook her head before replying, "Aricrasy is a type of

government where the strongest clans in the Domain will take turns to rule the domain in a ten year cycle."

"So this Hunter Village has something like government, isn't it the strongest rule?" Fatty Zhen was greatly surprised hearing this.

"No, the chaos still continues, it's just that they protect the domain, manage inter-domain trades and relationships, convey and enforce Hunter Council's orders and of course, pay taxes to Hunter Council,"

"So why does that affect you?" Midoriya cut in.

"My clan and that Zaren's clan has a slightly causal relationship but because of Zaren's wishes and also because no one cares about me, the clan wants to use me for a political marriage and help unite the two

clans and then gang fight and suppress the other third clan while they assume power." Taniyah explained with a slightly forlorn look.

"So, it's like forming a faction where they would rule for twenty years; and that advantage will be used in bettering the two clans while they deal terrible blows to the single, third clan…that's quite a good

scheme." Midoriya curled his lips and remarked but swiftly looked away when he saw Taniyah's vicious glare.

"Do you guys have food here?" Fatty Zhen rubbed his fat, round belly.

"No, don't you know fasting is very good for us Hunters?" Taniyah disdainfully eyed him.

"Looks like I'm going to kill myself." Fatty Zhen bowed his head in sadness.

"Dragon, we called for Maevery, she should be on her way." a man garbed in black robes knelt with one knee with head bowed as he reported deferentially to Zernon that was sitting in front.

"You took some time… from here to Great street, will take at least eight minutes with your level of flashstep and here to Maevery's lab has the distance of like… three, so it should have taken you at least

fifty minutes to and fro but you come here at the 59th minute, why?" Zernon placed his chin on his hand and smiled at him.

Impossibly, seeing Zernon's smile, reflecting in a shadow that was cast on the floor he set eyes on, he shivered uncontrollably, his body filled with fear.

He trembled a little before replying "I had to stop to meet my daughter, so it took six minutes,"

"Hmm… what if you went to meet a spy or a sponsor? I should kill you now just to be safe…" Zernon stared at him contemplatively.

"I wouldn't dare!! I wouldn't dare!!" the black-robed man slammed his forehead on the green floor tile with a bang, his tone laced with severe dread and terror.

"Haha, you are too afraid, I wouldn't kill you just like that, haha!" Zernon laughed before flashing over and pulled the man's chin upwards, making him gaze at his face.

"…But let this be the last time, you will be late even for a minute." At such very close proximity, the black-robed man set dreadful eyes on that sincere, gentle-looking smile and instantly, a wild current of

fear and horror passed through his body.

"O-okay"

"Haha, no need to be so serious, I am not cruel, just obey simple orders and we will have no problem, you can go." Zernon chuckled in surprise, as he saw his frightened expression.

The black-robed man didn't turn, he just back walked out of the room door slowly and silently, his body drenched in cold sweat.

Zernon returned to his seat and began pondering 'After this whole episode, I need to go to Twisting Zone to train… *sigh* such stress.'

It was a slight wonder how these 90 by 140 feet sized enormous, wide space was available inside the house.

It was tightly sealed with no windows or decorations, no specific interior was done except the glistening, white tiled floor and white cemented floor and white painted ceiling.

Midoriya stood there and waved his hand, immediately, a short knife slid into his palm from inside his sleeves and he hurled it with a very strange skill that caused the knife not to travel in a linear path but making a sharp curve as it spiraled towards the middle of two targets.

Clang!

Almost instantly, another knife was sent curving and colliding directly with the knife, tilting both trajectories to nail two circular targets in a clean manner.

Midoriya gazed at the remaining eight targets and then closed his eyes and spun, drifting in air like a light leaf in the wind.

Immediately, seven knives shot out like arrows, piercing the targets consecutively making popping sounds in the process.

'Damn it! I used flowing wind.' Midoriya abruptly stopped and frowned in displeasure.

"Hmm, you are good," A voice rang out with admiration and praise.

Midoriya turned to look and he saw Taniyah strolling in nonchalantly. "Was that flowing wind?"

"I don't know." Midoriya replied curtly.

"You are very good, can you teach me?" Taniyah asked very eagerly.

"No, I don't like using flowing wind, jeez," Midoriya flashing around and picked up his knives.

"Why don't you like using flowing wind?"

"I don't like revisiting that story." Midoriya frowned with annoyance.

"The trial is starting in six months, better train, many strong participants will be among." Taniyah shook her head before reminding.

"Yes, thank you, but... which techniques do you practice?"

"Why do you ask?"

"Just curious,"

"Flowing Wind, Rat style and Massacre dance." Taniyah smugly replied.

"Massacre dance?"

"It's just basically the application of flowing wind in a technique." Taniyah casually

answered.

"Okay, but that scheme for us to escape after all this is quite superb, is Zernon always that smart?"

"Can't say, sometimes he is stupid, sometime he is smart, he is just a very weird fellow,"

"What do you mean?"

"For instance, he has a principle where he keeps his word no matter what happens, so even if he has to run headfirst into death, just to keep his word, he will do it without hesitation." Taniyah smiled, seemingly remembering the past.

"Hmm."

"Anyways, I'm off, since you are here, I will go use another training field outside."

Taniyah then vanished.

"Why did you call me?" in Zernon's room, a voice silently rang out. The voice was very cold, colder than even a thousand year ice.

A young lady stood opposite him, she had a sharp oval face that was capped with her beautiful short brows, resting underneath, were two pair of scarlet-red eyes that seem to contain so much blood-thirstiness and concealed depression, and her long, fabulous nose was stationed gracefully above her dark-blued lips which added a certain touch of darkness to her and her white skin complimented amazingly with her white clothes and dazzling, silver-white hair that cascaded all the way to her waist.

"I need you to make poison candles." Zernon apparently used to her coldness, said immediately.

"How many?"

"Just two or three," Zernon replied before asking "We are having dinner later, care to partake?"

Zernon waited for her reply but he was just met with her cold stare, he quickly changed subject and said:

"Can you deliver it in three months?"

"I will deliver it in four months' time." Maevery replied silently before vanishing out of the room like a puff of smoke.

"Ah. so cold." Zernon smiled as he shook his head.

There was white sand everywhere, pale and beaten, stretching as far as the eyes could not see as it glistened slightly like marbles under the scorching sun and except the weak crashing sounds of waves that surfaced on the wide expanse of graceful sea in front; the whole place was silent, provoking a tranquil and soothing scene.

"Son, you will be leaving for the Zoro Domain, I will not be able to come or send any guards, you will have to rely on yourself, okay." standing on the beach was two hefty men, one more gigantic than the other.

The much bigger one was about eight and a half feet tall with bulging, mountainous muscles that his loose pale red robes could not cover and had an enormous battle-axe strapped to his back and had a

rough face with numerous, frightening scars that promoted his rough appearance.

The other one was six feet tall with equally, eye-catchy muscles but he had a golden spear placed behind him. He had a very unnatural brown skin maybe due to excess dirt or just normal skin color, the eyes he

used to look at the other man were clear-white except for the sides which bordered some red veins and seemed to contain unconcealed madness and he had a threatening scar that announced that should he have been any unlucky, his head would have been divided into two, vertically.

The smaller one nodded in response. "Don't worry. I will make sure I bring glory to the Dededu Domain and the Deva Island."

"Good, good and maybe… one day, we can be accepted back into Scorched Earth."

"Yes, I pray so too."
