Chapter 30 Rebirth

I could feel the energy coursing through my veins, my heart began to race, and my breathing came fast and shallow.

As I channeled the energy into the spell, my arms began to shake from the force of containing and directing that much raw power.

The heat seemed to rise off my body in waves as my cheeks flushed and sweat poured down my face and back in sheets.

I knew it would kill me if I failed to complete the spell. This was why Maka warned me never to use all my powers. I wasn't ready, but it was too late to turn back.

I had to finish it now. Completing the last chant, I released the built-up magic. As the magic poured out of my body, the heat dropped away, and my teeth began to chatter uncontrollably like I had taken a dip in a near-frozen lake during a blizzard.

My vision began to pinwheel, lights dancing erratically, then the blackness began crowding in. I closed my eyes and felt exhaustion crash on me like a tidal wave.

I knew I had fallen to my knees, but I didn't care anymore. I had cast my first spell; now, I was a true mage, not just a junior apprentice. I smiled as unconsciousness claimed me.

The portrait flung across the living room and disappeared into the misty air.

Was it unconsciousness, or was it just all a dream? Whispers came to my ear as I opened my eyes.

Her fingertips ran down my arms as I took a deep breath in.

Was this a dream on top of a dream? I sat up with Maka beside me. She stared at me and smiled.

Mia walked over, "we can't let them have us on the run. We have to face them."

"We are outnumbered, Mia," Jia replied.

I stood up.

That spell, that power I had, was I capable of having such abilities? I felt different in the sense of my surroundings and thoughts I felt I had more control over.

A breeze of cold air blew past me when I heard the name Huan. I looked over at Jia, "did you say something?"

Jia shook her head. Mia and Maka walked closer, looking at me wearily, "what's going on? You look confused."

"You going to die," said another whisper.

I looked around, "who said that?"

Jia touched my hand, and like a magnetic electro wave registered to my mind, I had a clear image of Huan.

I felt a sharp pain shooting through my arm. Jia let go of the grip and fell to the ground. Maka jumped up, "Jia!" She screamed as Jia opened her eyes.

I got down on my knee and lifted my sister, "I never had that before," said Jia as she stood up, trying to keep steady on her two feet.

"Are you okay?"

Jia nodded her head. I saw Mr. Chan's eyes close, lying on the ground. Huans face was pale with blonde hair but barely exposed as the hoody of her cape covered the hair.

Her hands were not visible. I saw a deep dark put leading into a cave. The surrounding had a field covered by a wired fence, and around the fence were bushes.

There was a sign with the same tattoo Mr. Chan had on his wrist. I heard a fast heartbeat and heavy breathing, and whispers came with the breeze of the wind passing through the cave, whispers of different words, Wei, revenge, death, burn, ashes- followed by a buzzing sound.

Whispers echoed, and I was the only one hearing them until Jia started to hold close her ears screaming.

Maka and Mia were not sure what to do. These whispers became louder, and Jia stumbled back and fell onto her knees, hissing.

She looked down at her reddening leg with pride as it joined the collection of scabs and bruises on her skin before standing up with the resilience of a determined child. "Kai" the wind seemed to whisper over and over again. "Kai."

Jia looked up at me as her eyes changed to white. "Don't you want to come and see?"

Jia furrowed her brow in confusion and slowly turned around, holding her bruised leg, Mia and Maka were in shock.

They had never seen Jia like this. Mia got down to her knees and removed the top, leaving her with only a bra on.

Maka glanced over at her looking down at Maka's chest and raising her eyebrows.

Maka took the top and tied it around Jia's injured leg, Huan was trying to reach me, and the distraction with Huan caused my sister to get hurt.

I closed my eyes and clenched my fist, "Huan," I whispered as I got a glimpse of her eyes, it was dark.

Huan dropped to her knees as she held her head. It felt like pieces of flesh on her were being peeled off while she was alive.

The pain was unbearable as blood ran down her ears, and whispers came through, "call off yours strays, and I shall spare you."

Huan screamed in the hollow cave for Wei to retreat. Within minutes he and his army were back. Huan slowly unveiled her hand from under her sleeve.

It was turning black as if venom was passing slowly through her body. She covered her hands as the corner of her eyes started to bleed.

"Please make it stop," she begged.

A sudden wind flowed through the cave, a breeze of silence. As the whispers wiped away, Huan saw darkness and what appeared to be a moon.

It felt like something had hit her from the back of her head as she passed out.

"What the hell is happening?" Mia snapped as she saw Jia's condition.

I placed my hand on my sister in the center of her chest as the yellow stone darkened by three percent.

Within seconds, Jia was well and could stand up. My touch could heal her, but the price I had to pay with healing would kill me.

I had to find a way to keep the stone glowing. I have put Huan to sleep. I could not seem to kill her as much as I wanted to. Her powers were more significant than I had expected.

She was one of the strongest I knew. If it had been anyone else, they would be sweeping up their ashes right now.

We went back upstairs. The place was a mess, but all the portraits were in place.

Mia walked up to the portrait of the boy that got killed and stared at it. This world was bigger than anyone could imagine.

We had tidied up the place.

Mia walked up to Jia and got down on her knees, examining her legs.

The bruises had vanished.

"First thing tomorrow, I will go out on the journey to seek the Darklord and end this."

"You can't.

The Darklord would kill anyone who approaches him directly," Mia replied.

I looked over at Mia, who had her hair loose and wore a black bra and jeans. She looked 'go at me,' for that moment, I felt my heart skip a beat, "you are endangering your life. My job is to protect you, and I can't protect you if you are going out there alone.".

Maka laughed, "you can't even protect yourself. How are you going to protect him."

"Enough, both of you," I said, "It's either we wait for them to build up the army and except random attacks, or we can approach the Darklord and have him end all this."

Jia stared blankly at the wall, "You can't do that. He will try to kill you," Jia walked up to me and touched my hand.

Everything turned white.

I saw myself in this office with two men by the door. Their eyes were red, and they wore suits. The Darklord's face wasn't visible, but I could see his hand and clothes but not his face.

He placed his hand on top of mine as I became paralyzed. He then looked over to the left side of his shoulder and nodded; that's when two men dragged Jia out of a room.

They had her arms spread apart as I screamed. She was in tears, and I couldn't break loose. I felt pain shooting through my system as if I started to choke, and the next moment blood was in front of me and Jia's head.

I screamed hysterically as I heard laughter from the back, and they dragged Maka into the room, lifted her by the hair, and slit her throat.

Every second of it felt real as I screamed and begged for mercy; it was as if they had never heard.

They continued and brought Mia out this time. I saw Ling's face; he was grinning as he walked over to Mia and pushed a dagger into her stomach as she screamed , Jia pulled away her hand and looked up at me in shock.

"What just happened?"

Mia stared up and smiled.
