Chapter15: I Battle for My Pups

The roar of a bear was the only warning we got before the trees snapped and collapsed around us.

Four burly black bears emerged, surrounding us within an instant. Two in the front and two in the rear. They were enormous in size and height and working in formation, which meant they were most definitely shifters.

The pups whimpered against my knees as the bear shifters rose on their haunches and roared in our direction. Their roars were bone rattling.

A sharp warning growl erupted from Terry’s throat.

‘Don’t engage, Terry!’ Ed snapped in the mind link between us all. He kept his eye on the shifters before him and said, “Let us out of here! We want no trouble!”

One of the front bears peeled back his mouth and bore his four thick canines at Terry. I searched between them all. Their eyes were enraged but careful. They were searching us, glancing between us. Lingering on me and Wendy and Sarah...

‘What are they looking for?’ Wendy asked.
