Melissa's hands began to tremble and the phone she was holding dropped to the floor. She started to feel dizzy and was about to fall, but Maxwell was there to catch her. His quick reflexes saved her from a nasty fall.
Maxwell was taken aback by the sight of Melissa's pale face and immediately questioned her, "Melissa, what happened? Why do you look so pale?" Although he was unsure of who had called, he knew that his guess was correct - only a spineless man like Zick could have made her cry. He was left to ponder what had been said that caused her to be in such a state. Feeling that something was wrong the three girls rose from their chairs and rushed to Maxwell and Melissa's side.
" P--Please, help me save my uncle and aunt.."Mellisa pleaded with tears in her eyes. " Z--Zick kidnapped them, I can't go back to him, please help me. ''
Mellisa's plea was filled with desperation and anguish as she begged Maxwell for help. Her tears were a testament to the trauma she had endured at the hands of Zick, and it was clear that she needed assurance that she was safe from him. Maxwell was appalled at the thought of Zick expecting Mellisa to return to him after all he had done to her. It was unacceptable that he would treat her as if she was a mere object to be used and discarded at his will. Maxwell was determined to help her, and he was determined to make sure that Mellisa's uncle and aunt were safe from Zick's grasp.
" Melissa, please don't cry. "Maxwell said, rubbing her lovely hair. " Give me only 2 hours, I will save your uncle, you don't have to go back to that foolish man like Zick, okay? Now go and do work, If you keep on crying I won't help you. "
Mellisa nodded her head and went back upstairs.
"Maxwell, what happened?" Michelle asked, her eyebrows raised in concern. "Who called Mellisa just now?"
"Zick," Maxwell replied through gritted teeth. "He kidnapped your mother and father in exchange for their lives, he wants Mellisa to come back to him."
"What?!" Michelle exclaimed. "Mellisa is not going anywhere; they would rather die. They has caused Mellisa so much pain, why should she sacrifice her life for them? Let him do whatever he wants with them." Despite the gravity of the situation, Michelle was determined that Mellisa should not be forced to endure any more suffering.
"I wish Mellisa had a heart like yours," Maxwell sighed. "But unfortunately, I must save them or else she might go back to him, which is something I do not want to happen.
..... 2 hours later.
Maxwell gave a firm shake to Melissa's arm, rousing her from her slumber on the couch. "What happened?" Melissa asked, her voice groggy from sleep.
Maxwell handed her a glass of hot milk and said, "Drink this, then we'll go and save your uncle and aunt." Melissa quickly gulped down the milk and declared, "I'm done, let's go!"
Maxwell paused and said, "First, promise me that you won't cry in front of your so-called husband. Can you do that?" Melissa nodded her head in agreement, and Maxwell nodded approvingly. "Good. Let's go."
Maxwell was done making phone calls and his men were ready to visit Nadia. Melissa and Maxwell left home leaving Linda, Shina, and Michelle at home waiting.
Mellisa and Maxwell were both in the same car, with three other cars following behind them. Maxwell usually drove when it was important, such as when he was with his family, but today he asked his driver to take the wheel so he could show Zick his place. The ride was quiet, and before they knew it, they had arrived at the Nadia mansion. "We are here, sir," the driver said. Maxwell got out of the car and opened the door for Mellisa as a gentleman would do.
Melissa stepped out of the car, her heart pounding in her chest. She looked up at Maxwell, her eyes filled with fear. "Honestly, I'm really scared to go in," she said, her voice trembling. "What if your plan fails?" The memories of Zick's abuse flashed through her mind, and she couldn't help but feel nervous.
Maxwell held her hands in his and looked into her eyes, reassuring her that nothing bad was going to happen. "Melissa, you have to face your fears to overcome them," he said. "I want you to be a strong woman, I want you to be able to defend yourself without fear. You must face men like Zick who don't respect women."
Melissa smiled through her tears, feeling grateful for Maxwell's support. "Thank you for wasting your time on me," she said. "I don't know what I would have done without you. Maybe I would have killed myself long ago, but you stopped me. Thank you. I'm ready to go now.
" That's what I wanted to hear from you, "Maxwell smiled. " Come on let's go, "
Zick and Riya, who were just about to leave the house, stopped in their tracks when they saw Mellida entering. "Oh wow! My dear wife has come back to save her family," Zick smirked, but his smirk quickly faded when he saw Maxwell entering the house with a group of men behind him, who appeared to be the undercover mafia. Maxwell's cold voice filled the living room, "You mean to say your soon-to-be ex-wife, who is going to be my soon-to-be wife, right?" Everyone felt a chill run down their spine. Mellisa couldn't believe it; this was not the same man who had been smiling at her moments ago. She had never imagined Maxwell to be this intimidating.
" What is the meaning of this, Mellisa? " Riya fumed in anger.
Maxwell smirked, the kind of smirk that could make someone sweat and peer on their panties. "It seems like you don't know how to welcome your visitor," he said. "I will welcome myself, don't worry." He then walked to the couch and sat down, gesturing for Melissa to join him. Reluctantly, she did so. "So Zick Nadia, you dared to threaten my future wife," Maxwell continued. "I'm sure you knew the consequences for yourself. You will have to let go of Melissa's aunts and uncle within 24 seconds and sign the divorce paper or else all your companies will burn into ashes because I've inseminated booms in all of your so-called empires."
Zick and Riya's eyes widened in shock as if they were about to bulge out of their sockets.
Maxwell's voice was cold and deadly as he continued speaking. "If you think that I'm lying to you, then here is the remote. You only have 30 minutes to save your hard work for all these years."
Without hesitation, Zick pulled out his phone and called his men. Within seconds, the call was answered and he commanded, "Take them back to their house." He hung up the call and yelled for his maid, "Net, bring the file that is on my coffee table in my room." Moments later, the file was in his hands and he held the divorce papers.
He walked up to Mellisa and thrust the papers in her face. "This isn't over," he declared. "You are mine and I will make sure of that."
Maxwell stood up from his chair and declared, "Well! Well. Our business is done here. The next time I come here, because of you then. I will take everything that you are proud of and give it to my servants."
Zick shot back, "You will pay for this, Mr. William! I will make Mellisa mine before you do. Today you caught me off, guard,
but next time be ready to face my wrath."
Maxwell moved closer to Zick and
whispered in his ear, "Unfortunately, you are too late for that. She is already mine." With a smirk on his lips, he stepped back and motioned to Melissa, "Come, let's go.
Riya glared at Mellisa as she walked out with Maxwell and his men. She had not expected Mellisa to be so lucky to meet the most powerful and richest man in the country after Zick had chased her out. "You will come back here Melissa, you can't just leave my grandson, you can't," Riya murmured. "Don't worry Zick, this is not over. The war just began, and I too have connections with the undercover mafia. She had no choice but to come back here," she continued to watch the back of the people who were walking away.
Zick muttered, his ego wounded, "You are right granny, this is not over. Mellisa is mine." He had been foolish to stay with his wife for two and a half years without even touching her, instead, he had only abused her. Now she had found someone better than him, someone more handsome, wealthier, and who protected her rather than beat her. He realized his mistake and wanted to make amends, but it was too late. He had not appreciated what he had until he had lost it.
