After taking a shower, Melissa and Maxwell ate their breakfast in silence; only the sound of the knife hitting the plate could be heard.
After having breakfast, the two of them cleared the table and washed all the dishes. Maxwell noticed that Melissa was lost in her own world, so he decided to ask her what the problem was.
"Baby doll, why are you quiet? I've noticed that you were talkative for the last four days. What happened?" Maxwell asked.
Melissa sighed. "Maxwell, remember what we talked about three days ago?" Melissa asked. Maxwell nodded his head, curious about what she wanted to say. "I'm ready to go through with that procedure. I can feel it in my blood that Zick is planning something big and he is going to do anything to ruin our relationship. I want to finish things with him once and for all. I'm no longer scared of him now," Melissa said, her eyes turning cold and so was her tone.
Maxwell smiled and pulled Melissa into his arms. "Melissa, I will support every decision that you take, and if you need help with anything, don't hesitate to tell me," Maxwell said, hugging Melissa tightly. He was happy that Melissa wanted to stand up for herself without any fear. He knew that Zick and Tina must be planning something big in their absence. He could only hope that they wouldn't separate them.
"So, should we make an appointment with the doctor from here or should we do it at home?" Melissa asked.
"We'll make the appointment here and then go home, okay? Now, stop worrying, okay?" Maxwell said.
"Mm-hmm," Melissa replied.
...
5 Days later
Linda came home early, having just finished her exams. She assumed Tina would be out, but was surprised to see her sitting on the couch with her legs crossed.
"Oh, look who's here," Tina smirked as she stood up. She saw this as a perfect opportunity to teach Linda a lesson, as she was the only one home and the maid wouldn't say anything.
Linda stood in the centre of the house, trembling with fear.
"Don't you have any manners? Can't you even say hello to me?" Tina glared at Linda with anger.
"I-I," Linda stuttered, sweat forming on her forehead.
"I'll teach you how to respect your elders." Tina's hand connected with Linda's face, causing a sharp pain to spread across her cheeks. Linda stumbled, but was caught by someone before she fell. The force of the slap was so strong that it was clear Tina had intended to harm Linda at all costs.
"How dare you hit her?" Melissa's voice echoed throughout the sitting room. She had just arrived home while Maxwell went to check something at the office and asked a driver to drop Melissa off at home. She was right behind Linda and wanted to surprise her. When she saw Tina slapping Linda, she rushed to hold her and stop her from falling.
Tina's face turned white when she saw Melissa. She thought that Melissa was not going to come home today, so she was surprised to see her.
"You don't know how to reply to me right." Melissa raised her hand and slapped Tina so hard across her cheeks that she stumbled and fell down.
"Stand up right now and apologise to Linda immediately, or else I will call the guards outside to thrash the hell out of you. Trust me, you wouldn't like it," Melissa said coldly.
Tina's eyes widened, and she quickly rose off the floor despite the sharp pain she was feeling on her cheeks. "I'm sorry, Linda. I didn't mean to slap you," Tina stammered. Her body was quivering in anger, but she held it. She was going to chase them out of the house anyway, so she truly didn't have to be beaten by the guards for no reason.
"Let me make this clear to you," Melissa said coldly. "If you dare to lay your hand on Linda ever again, then don't blame me for what I will do to you. Trust me, the next time you do this, you will regret the day you were born. And yes, stay away as far from my husband as you can because the person you are looking at right now will destroy anyone who tries to ruin her happiness or family. It's better to stay away from them if you know what's good for you." Melissa took Linda's hand and went upstairs with her.
Tina gasped, her mouth falling open, her heartbeat racing. She didn't know that Melissa could be so scary. Seriously, her heart skipped a beat in fear. She wasn't sure if her plan was going to work or not because, to be honest, she got really scared by Melissa's threat. "I will face your punishment only if my plan fails, but if I succeed, then you will face mine." Tina mustered the courage to mumble. There was no way she was going to let go of the opportunity to make Maxwell hers. She had come a long way to give up now.
Tina went to her room, grabbed her phone, and dialed an unknown number. In no time, the call was picked up.
"Maxwell has come to the office. Will you be able to finish the job?" Tina asked the person over the phone.
"Sir has already left and he took a leave for the whole week. Mark will take care of the company. So, I can do this work for you next week," the lady on the other side said.
Tina flashed a smirk. "It's okay. I have all the time in the world. Just make sure you do your job okay. I will hang up now," Tina said and hung up the call.
She walked to the mirror and looked at her red, swollen cheeks with a smirk on her face. "Melissa, you've messed with the wrong person, and I'm going to make you pay for all this. As for Linda and Shina, I will send them back to the orphanage, and then only Maxwell and I will live in this house happily ever after," Tina murmured. Everything was going according to her plan. All she had to do was be patient.
….
Melissa entered the room and helped Linda to sit down, then sat next to her.
"Are you okay? I'm sorry I wasn't there for you for such a long time. I should have known that Tina would do such a thing," Melissa said softly, rubbing Linda's hair.
Linda laid her head on Melissa's lap, tears flowing out of her eyes. Tina reminded her of how their foster father would beat them and their mother. After staying with Maxwell, she was starting to forget everything, but now, how on earth was she going to do that after she slapped her so hard across the face? Of course, all the memories came flooding back into her mind. Their mother loved them so much that she was abused by her husband every day for being unable to bear children of her own. But she loved the children that she had adopted instead of making her own babies. "I miss my mommy so much," Linda sobbed.
Melissa's eyes became watery. She felt a tightness in her throat that she swallowed hard to fight her tears. "Hey! Don't cry now. I'm with you, okay?" Melissa said softly. "I will not let anyone beat you ever again, okay? I'm with you now, so don't worry, okay?" Melissa said, smoothing her hair.
