Chapter XXVII

Jack arrives at Vince’s house around ten in the morning.

Vince welcomes him with a smile, and it's calming, like it always is. The kind of smile that makes you smile back even before you think you should.

They walk to the place down the street from Vince’s house, where they used to go get coffee, their minds heavy with nostalgia. They can almost see the ghosts of their past selves, walking that same street, but with a big carefree smile on their faces instead of the unsure, shy ones they’re wearing now.

Jack feels his hand brush against Vince’s at some point and it's electrifying. He quickly pulls away. The other boy doesn't seem to notice.

He doesn't seem to notice Jack’s heart racing either, or the way the boy steals glances of him every chance he can.

"This place looks different!" Vince says once they get there and pick a table inside, eyes travelling around the place.
