The letter

19XX:

Donavan wrote a letter to Daisy and one to his unborn child. Those around him were silently stoic. Donavan handed the letters to Seelie, "Watch over my family ok?" Seelie nodded.

Lady Greystone drew her sword, "Donavan Lee this-"

He cut her off, "Lady Greystone those children need freed."

He shifted and lowered his head to await the blow. Lady Greystone took a breath and struck the blow.

With out his horn Donavan shifted back to his human form.

After freeing the children and placing them in the healing care of the council Seelie and Will brought Donavan's body back to Daisy.

In her arms she held the smallest baby girl with the brightest blue eyes. "Ruby; her name is. He wanted to name her after his mother." Daisy wept aloud before any could tell her.

"I had a dream," She laid the baby down, "Donavan came and he showed me..." shaking her head.

Seelie went to her held her as she mourned. Will wiped his eyes thinking of his own mate and son.

Present :

Seelie stood and poured a drink. Remembering what happened always seemed to call for a drink.

"Ruby, your father wasn't in the military like you were told." He took a swallow before walking to the mantle and getting a small box made of metal, "He was a member of the Council of Mists."

Ruby looked confused. She let out a breath, "What? The Council of the Mists, but you have to be..."

Colt took Ruby's hand as Seelie down his drink before speaking, "Ruby I promised both your parents that I would keep you safe always. Your mother was a druid. She left her coven because it was safest for your father and you."

Ruby couldn't help crying, "Alpha please..."

Seelie handed her the box, "Donavan was the last of his kind... Or was before you were born..."

Ruby opened the box. Inside were photos of her mother and father.

In the first she was standing next to the most beautiful unicorn. Then a second one with her and her father. A third was of her father Will and Seelie dressed in military camouflage.

Ruby showed the pictures to Colt wiping tears away.

Colt looked at the pictures, "Seelie are you saying that Ruby's father was a unicorn shifter?"

Seelie nodded, "He was the last one; until Daisy got pregnant."

Ruby looked down at the letter addressed simply to "MY DEAR ONE."

"I have never shifted before....I can't...." Ruby began to slowly pulling herself into a ball away from Colt and Seelie.

Colt turned Ruby's face to meet his and wiped her cheeks, "Female unicorn shifters don't shift. Ruby...."

Seelie brought her a hankie. Ruby looked at the photos and saw how in love her parents were. Seelie sat in his chair, "Before I tell you more read his letter."
