Donald's POV
“Damien looks like a child who was deprived of his favourite plaything.”
I teased him as I turned the eggs I was frying.
He glared at me and resumed sulking.
“He's just annoyed at our mate, that's all.” Daniel supplied as he took a helping of the pancake.
I hit him with the spatula on the table.
I don't know why my brothers won't help me out when I cook. They always opt to eat more than I, the cook.
Okay, truth be told. Damien is the cook of the family. I'm just good at frying things, but not as good as he is.
“You will know how it is if you get rejected by him.” He frowned at us.
“Chill bro, you weren't rejected, he was just asking an obvious question,” I told the sulking child.
Damien's insecurities have surely gone up top-notch.
“You are just saying that based on him choosing you two over me,” he stood up and left in anger.
“Damien will always be insecure.
Do you remember when he almost died climbing a tree during a storm just because our aunt kissed us goodbye before him and he claimed she only liked us, not him?
Sporadically, his character gets on my nerves.” Daniel said as he walked over to the sink to drop his plate.
“Thanks for the lunch,” he said as he walked towards the parlour. “Let me go and disturb the sulking boy.” He winked.
I shook my head at his words. Damien will always be insecure, while Daniel remains the disturber.
My mind drifted to my mate, I didn't get to see him in survival techniques 101 because we sensed a change in Damien's mood, that's why we returned to keep him company.
Damien is emotional to the extent he might do something to endanger himself if he thinks he's not wanted.
I had to ask Bianca to escort him home since she's mated to Richard, so I need not worry about her stealing from him right under my nose.
Miguel is like a sun on my cloudy day. He might not be perfect, but I won't change anything about him, not even his imperfections.
His smile is like a drug that I would like to get drunk on, his voice_
My phone rang, interrupting my thoughts.
“What's it? “ I snapped at the person who dares interrupt my thoughts.
“Alpha it's me,” when I heard Bianca's voice my mood changed drastically.
“What happened? Is Miguel alright? Where are you? Is he hurt? What_”
I heard her chuckle, “stop worrying about your handsome head, alpha.”
“ I heard that,” Richard growled in the background.
“Chill,” she chided her grumpy mate, “am just talking to our Alpha.”
No response came from the background after her words.
I snorted, it's obvious Damien's beta has no respect for his Alpha.
“How is Miguel?” I impatiently asked.
Daniel must have heard our mate's name since he walked in with an alarmed face.
“Is everything alright?” he looked at the phone in my hands as if it were the answer to all mysteries.
“Yeah, it's just Bianca giving me an account of her day with our mate,” I explained.
He exhaled in relief. From our mate bond, I can feel Damien's worry and his relief over finding out our mate is safe.
He can pretend all he wants, but we all know he still wants our mate, even if he's trying to convince himself and us that he can make do without a mate since his mate allegedly rejected him.
“He's in hot soup,” she deadpanned.
Her statement made my normal heartbeat accelerate, “what the hell do you mean by that?”
I couldn't control my emotions, coupled with my brothers, who were all over the place.
“That's slang for being in trouble Alpha, cool your beans he's far from being hurt. “ I can picture her rolling her eyes.
“Quit the chase and tell me exactly what I need to know, HOW. IS. MY. MATE? “ My wolf boomed.
I lose control of my Wild side whenever my emotions are stirred.
“He's okay, I escorted him home per your request,” she answered.
I exhaled loudly until something clicked, “why did you say he's in hot soup if you escorted him safely as you earlier said? “
She sighed," turns out your mate is a parents' boy.”
Her words rely on confused me” what did you mean by parents' son?
Are his parents not his true family?
Was he adopted?
How did he find out?”
I can feel my brothers' agitations
“Sometimes the way you think amuses me Alpha,” she chuckles, “I meant your mate is his parents' pet.”
“Why did you say that? Out with it already.” I was beyond impatient now.
“His mom was mad at him for walking home from school instead of waiting for her to pick him up.” She said at last.
I chuckled at that, my mate can be hard-headed something.
“Why didn't he wait for her to take him home, since it's obvious she doesn't want him stressing his cute self? “
I could hear her munching something in the background
“He wants to be independent. According to him, he doesn't want his parents petting him since he's eighteen.”
“Did they resolve the issue?” I wanted to know the end of the interesting issue.
“I took an opening to escape before the mother spots me and put the blame on me.”
“Thanks for giving me feedback on the mission you were assigned to.”
With that said, I switched off the phone.
I turned to a smirking Daniel, “what's with that look on your face?”
Every time he gets that look on his face, he's planning something.
He sat down rubbing his palms together, “I have an idea on how we will get closer to him.”
That intrigued me, “how do we go about it?”
I can feel Damien trying to eavesdrop through our bond.
“You know you don't need to pretend you aren't concerned about our mate, since it's obvious you do,” I said to him, but
He flipped me the bird but didn't close his side of the bond.
Donald gestured for me to come closer as he bent down and whispered his great ideas to me.
“That's a terrific idea,” I smiled at him.
He smiled Knowingly, “Told ya,” he smirked.
*
I walked toward the door
“I am going for a run. See you when I return in the morning.”
I run whenever I have things on my mind, running in my wolf form helps me clear my mind, especially on matters related to my mate.
I shifted to my wolf, Dona is a white wolf with golden eyes, I know am beautiful based on the girls fawning over me.
I bask in their attention, but the person I want attention more on me is my mate.
He's the reason I took care of my looks.
I took to running the moment we reached the forest, and my wolf howled in happiness.
It's been almost three days since I let it out, and it's happy to be let loose for a while since I stay in my human form more than I do my wolf form.
Let's go for a hunt.
I mind linked my wolf, but he was reluctant to run into the forest, unlike before when he dashes into the forest the moment I change.
No mate.
He countered.
I know it will be hard to get him to concentrate.
Since we scented our mate's sweet floral scent, I've been adamant about marking him, not knowing that human ways and animal ways are not the same.
I had to convince him before he reluctantly walked into the forest,
Later,
He promised.
