I am not a fan of the apron but because flour is involved, I would use it, it's not like I have got a choice anyway.
I got a pan, rinsed and placed it on the burner then switched it on, put my butter and began to melt it while I added my sugar too. When I was satisfied with the result, I brought it down and switched of the burner
I got the bowl and broke the eggs inside and poured the melted butter and sugar then began to cream them together with my batter spoon.
I sliced an onion and added it to the mixture, added pepper, salt, nutmeg and my milk then whisk thoroughly..
I gradually add the flour and keep on whisking. The mixture begins to thicken and look lumpy.
I added more milk because the batter is too thick and continued stirring until the pancake batter was smooth with a runny consistency.
I looked at the outcome and smiled, the result was satisfying. The first phase is done and dusted.
I move on to the next phase which is the frying phase.
I set the pan back on the burner then switched it on, poured some vegetable oil and waited for it to heat a little.
When the pan was hot enough I poured some pancake batter and allowed a little before I flipped it to the other side.
Within two minutes my first pancake was done, it looked so yummy. I took it out and repeated the process with the rest.
I released a sigh when I removed the last piece of pancake and switched off my burner.
"Pancake is serve"
I murmured and that minute Jeff ran into the kitchen with Ben chasing after him. Ben was not smiling at all, the boys got no joy.
Jeff circled me in a way that Ben would get to me before him. I don't even know if I should laugh or cry.
"I can't laugh with the way Ben is looking.
"Auntie Nora, uncle here, does not want to accept my apology. I apologized but he said I didn't mean it. I was wondering if he is inside my heart to know if I mean it or not. I told him that if he can't accept my apology that it's his cup of tea anyway but that would not stop him from getting me ice scream tomorrow and he began to chase me. Please, did I do anything wrong this time around?"
I was getting a headache from all of these, Ben was not helping it and he was seriously trying to get to Jeff.
"Jeff kindly go to the living room while I talk to your uncle here"
I said and pushed him off and he left.
"I am losing my patience Nora, Jeff is so stubborn. I wondered if he is an adult or a child"
He said gritting his teeth. Ben is so right, the way je hehaves baffles me.
"It's fine, he is just trying to get to you. Like he said, don't be a big baby"
I said consoling him but he looked at me as if I had said something wrong. That's when I remembered what I said.
"Oops, my bad"
I circled him and hugged him from the back.
"Sorry big guy, you are a big guy not a big baby. Don't mind my tongue. You know I love you right?"
He calmed down and turned towards me, facing him.
"Apology will only be accepted if you take care of me tonight. You know how I want it"
He winked and left the kitchen leaving no room for me to agree or disagree. I bit my lips and smiled.
"Naughty Ben"
"My pancake"
Jeff screamed and I remembered the pancake. His parents are trying. Who knows if they would be so relieved to have him gone for a day.
I got a tray and pulled out three flat plates and rinsed them and dried them as well.
Dished a Ben's, Jeff's and mine and arranged the plates in order of ownership.
Glass of milk would do justice to the pancake so I went and got three glasses and filled them with milk from the fridge.
I got a tray for the glass of milk and put them in. I could not carry everything so I called Jeff.
"Jeff!"
He ran to the kitchen immediately beaming when he saw the pancake.
"Auntie Nora, you are the best"
He said and hugged me. Forget Jeff being stubborn,he is a sweet child.
"I know right, now help me with the tray of pancakes while I get the milk."
He released me and saluted.
"On it aye!"
I chuckled, shaking my head.
He gently carried the tray while I got the tray for the glass milk and we left the kitchen.
Time would come when I would have my kids preparing breakfast, lunch or dinner with me,Ben's kids.
