CHAPTER 84

Purist immediately went to her room and locked the door since she did not want to be confronted by Haggai or Tere.

She sat on her bed for a long period of time wondering what would happen if Ruth came back to the closer gates. Would Haggai step down as the owner of the closer gates? Would Tere be taken back to the cell of hell? Would Tere kill her remaining family? Purist did not want to think about it since she had not even seen Naomi or Magdalene. 

According to Purist, maybe they were all dead regarding what Ruth had told her. 

Before she could lean on her bed and sleep, she had a knock at the door. 

" It's your grandmother Akeshia"  said Akeshia as Purist went and opened the door smiling. 

Purist had grown fond of Akeshia ever since she started making up plans to stop the wedding .She hugged Akeshia tightly and squeezed in between her till Akeshia was about to fall. 

" Please forgive me grandma . I am just excited by everything that is happening . I cannot believe that Ruth decided to come and help. The only bad thing is that my father has been sent to jail for a crime he did not commit" said Purist a bit worried. 

" Do not worry Purist. Ruth is a lawyer and I am apsalutely sure that she would fight for your father's freedom. Do not tell your mother anything about us going to visit Ruth. It will deeply land your grandmother in trouble. Do you understand me?" Said Akshia a bit tensed. 

" Yes grandma. I will never tell Tere about the fact that we went to visit Ruth. I cannot believe that she lives far away from town and far away from the closer gates" said Purist. 

" What happened to her in the past might had been very traumatising. I hope she will be able to open up and tell us everything someday. I am going back to work before your mother suspect anything"

" She is not my mother......Sorry.....I mean she is not like a mother to me" shouted Purist at Akeshia who left the room. 

Akeshia immediately went downstairs and found Haggai still seated on Magdalene's couch. She had no say in that since she was just a servant at the mansion. She immediately went to the kitchen to prepare meal with the help of Lady Ruby. Tere who was passing by heard the smell of spices and decided to enter the kitchen. 

" Why do you cook such delicious meals at such a time Akeshia? Don't you know that today is a sorrowful day because Martin has moved out of the cell of hell? Let's take something bitter today to celebrate his warm welcoming to jail" said Tere laughing annoyingly. 

Tere had truly said all those things inorder to annoy Akeshia. Akeshia on the other hand assumed her and did not seem to be bothered by whatever she was really saying. Tere went closer to Akeshia and pushed her till she fell on the tomatoes she was peeling. 

" Is that how bitter your day has to be Akeshia? I would gladly make your day more bitter than you expect it to be. You all now think highly of yourselves because you think that Ruth will save you. I feel bitter for that because I do not know of it's the truth. This is simply because Ruth will never come back to the closer gates" shouted Tere at Akeshia and Lady Ruby who left the kitchen. 

Akeshia immediately washed her face and began to cry. She was truly atonished by everything that Tere had told her. 

" Why couldn't you defend yourself lady Akeshia? Why don't we tell Ruth everything that is happening here at the closer gates?" Asked Lady Ruby who was a bit worried for Lady Akeshia who was getting much more older. 

" Ruth would not able to do anything since she no longer lives at the closer gates. She has changed a lot and has been crowned as one of the most prominent lawyers in this town. I do not think she would lower her pride to come and live with us at the closer gates in order to defend us" said Akeshia. 

" But she saved Martin from the cell of hell. That means that she still loves us and has the heart to stay with us here at the closer gates" said Lady Ruby as an assurance. 

" No!" That was the only thing that Akeshia said who continued with her work. 

Lady Ruby seemed dissapointed. She thought that Ruth was finally coming back to live at the closer gates but she was mistaken.  She felt bad that they were still not able to fight for their rights as servants. 

Ruth on the other hand had already arrived at the police station. She was not allowed to see Martin but she still pleaded to have a conversation with the inspector. Ruth wanted to find out the main reason why Martin had been arrested. She was escorted to the chief inspector's office. 

" Welcome to my office miss Ruth. What brings a little girl like you to my office?" Asked the inspector filled with lots of curiosity. 

" My husband Martin has been arrested and I want to know the main reason for his arrest. He is the original owner of the famous closer gates" said Ruth . 

What!

'Did Ruth just recognize Martin as her husband?'  She seemed to had no idea that she had just said that. 

" Is Martin your husband? Oh! You are the famous Ruth who got married at the age of sixteen. Is that the main reason why you became a lawyer and decided to fight for the rights of those girls who got married at a very young age? Your husband has been arrested for a murder case and he will definitely be arraigned in court next week" said the inspector laughing annoyingly. 

He just said all those things inorder to piss off Ruth. He knew that Ruth was indeed the famous girl who got married at the age of sixteen. 

" Can I see my husband now? I need to have a proper conversation with him. And whose murder is he being accused of?" Asked Ruth filled with lots of curiosity. 

" Your family's murder" said the inspector. 

Ruth widened her eyes in disbelief. She finally knew that it was Tere who was trying to frame Martin. 

" Who raised that complain?" 

" The person who has raised that complain is an old woman by the name Magdalene" said the inspector as Ruth nodded her head in disagreement. 

Ruth knew that it was Magdalene yet she did not want to accept the truth. She knew that Magdalene wouldn't dare do such a thing. She left the police station. Ruth entered her car and drove back to the closer gates. She found Tere addressing the people of the closer gates assuring them that Martin was guilty of everything that he had been accused of. 

" That is not true Tere" said Ruth as she approached Tere where she was addressing the crowd. 

" That will never be true since I was with Martin that day. He could never have killed my family and he could never have shot my mother Naomi. I will come back tomorrow and you will have to tell me everything that you have done to my grandma inorder for her to be able to sue Martin" said Ruth who left angrily. 

She immediately entered her car and drove off angrily. 

Lady Ruby who had been standing by the balcony watched Ruth's car leave and smiled. It then dawned on her that what lady Akeshia was saying was indeed true .Ruth was now an influential person and would not dare think of going back to the closer gates .

Ruth drove quickly but was stopped on the road by a car that was overspeeding just like hers. The drivers in both cars got out of the. car. 

" Next time be careful when you are overtaking" shouted Ruth at the other driver. 

When the other driver lifted her head, Ruth was astonished to find out that it was Faith. They hugged each other emotionally as tears welled down their eyes. 

" What are you doing here? I told you to leave town and never come back" said Faith angrily. 

" Purist and Akeshia found me. They wanted me to help them by stopping Purist's wedding that's why I decided to go into the closer gates"

" You don't have to worry because I am also going to stop that wedding. I just came because I heard that my brother Martin has been arrested. I was rushing to go to the police station and find out the main reason why since I heard the police refused a certain woman to see Martin" said Faith. 

" That woman is me Faith. Can we go to one of the restaurants around here? We really have a lot to talk about Faith. Your mother is a servant at the closer gates and Martin was declared the verdict of being taken to the cell of hell" said Ruth hesitantly. 

" You are right Ruth. We need to go and talk over this but not around here. Let's go seven kilometers from here" said Faith who entered her car and drove off while she led the way. 

It was totally amusing how Ruth and Faith had become best friends in such away that Ruth had forgotten that Faith had attempted to kill her in the past.
