CHAPTER 67

Magdalene was in a total confused state. 

She was hurt when she saw Faith in the intensive care unit breathing helplessly. 

" Mama! Ruth wants to have a talk with you" said Naomi crying. 

It's true that Ruth wanted to have a talk with Magdalene but Magdalene thought otherwise. 

She thought that Naomi just wanted her to leave the intensive care unit. Yet she still chose to go. She found Ruth crying and get eyes were all red. Her eyes were always red when she was angry about something. 

" Grandma......" Said Ruth but Magdalene interrupted her. 

Magdalene did not want Ruth to say anything since she was still feeling weak. Ruth still insisted to say everything she wanted to say. 

" How ..... is...Rodgers?" Asked Ruth filled with lots of sadness. 

Martin who had just entered hit his hand on the wall on hearing this. He was truly furious that as soon as Ruth woke up all she remembered was her ex Rodgers. 

" You want to know how Rodgers is? He is in the morgue and his family just identified him" said Martin wvo whispered in Ruth's hear.

He said Rodgers' death as if he was proud of it. Ruth could not hide her tears. 

' He died because of me. Rodgers died because I betrayed our love and married Martin. No way I have to go to the morgue an identify his body too' 

Ruth thought. She could not dare say it because she knew that it would hurt Martin more.

"What did you want to tell me Ruth? Tell me. Do you prefer to tell me alone so that I can dismiss the others?" Said Magdalene as Ruth nodded her head in agreement. 

Naomi and Martin left feeling sad. They wondered what exactly it was that  Ruth was hiding from them. They still decided to obey. They both went to the waiting room where Akeshia was already seated and kept praying for Faith in her heart. 

Ruth retraced back how things happened. She felt it was time to tell Magdalene to take action. 

" Grandma! It was Faith who gave all of you that sleeping pill. She asked Lady Ruby to put it in your drinks. She forced me to drink too and drag me to an empty house where Rodgers who had sent her turned against her . He tried to rape me. If Martin hadn't appeared in time, then we would have already been gone" said Ruth crying. 

" Why are you confiding with me instead of your mother Naomi?" Asked Magdalene. It was definetly true that she truly did not believe what Ruth was saying. 

" You don't believe me? After she tried stabbing me at the garden for the sake of Tere. You are now the family leader. Once she wakes up take action grandma. Unless....... there's something that I do not know" said Ruth. 

" What do you want me to do? Kill her. That will not make any difference for me and her. Just be silent and get well soon. I know how I will handle the rest" said Magdalene who left the room.

Ruth stood up and tried to get out of the room . She knew the room that Faith was in but did not know that she was in a comma. She went to the room and found that Faith had opened her eyes. On looking at her, she could tell that Faith had just woken up from a comma.

" You just woke up from a comma in a short while. I wonder why they gave you another strength to live. You deserve to die and your body to be thrown away for the dogs to leak or be thrown in a park full of elephants so that they can eat you up. You desperate little monster" said Ruth who left the room as soon as Faith started breathing heavily. 

Unfortunately, she came across Akeshia who was just coming to the ward. She stopped. 

" Where have you come from? Why do I hear some weird sirens from Faith's room? You come and with me and tell me what you did to my daughter" said Akeshia who pushed Ruth back to the intensive care unit. 

" I didn't do anything. Why are you blaming me Akeshia?" Shouted Ruth with all of her efforts. 

This caught the attention of everyone inside the waiting room. They all ran to the room and found Akeshis trying to beat Ruth all round. Naomi went as fast as she could and got hold of Ruth. 

" You hurt my daughter because she came to visit your daughter. I won't forgive you for this Akeshia. As soon as she gets well, I will sue her for stabbing my daughter and kidnapping. No! Do not stop me Martin. You have controlled my daughter alot but now I think it's time for a mother to come in and fight for whatever she thinks is right. Let's go Ruth" Said Naomi who held Ruth's arm and left. 

She took Ruth back to her room and laid her to sleep. 

The doctors came to the intensive care unit and confirmed that she was in good health and nothing bad had happened to her. 

Martin went to Ruth's room to check on Ruth and found Naomi helping her to drink water. He wanted to take the water and feed his wife but Naomi refused .

" I will feed my daughter. After she gets well soon, I will take her back home. We will return everything that we owe you whether you like it or not" said Naomi. 

Martin lacked words to say. He left the room hurt. At last he was going to loose his pride of pressure. He went to the waiting room and began to cry. 

" Ma! Is it true? Is it true that I am going to leave my husband's house?" Asked Ruth in a pellucid voice. 

" Yes! It is true that you are leaving the closer gates. You are going back home. I am have found some scholarship that will help you study in highschool. Forgive Ruth for this wrong that I made to you. Forgive me for the fact that I allowed you to get married to Martin at such a young age. It's time for me to make things right" said Naomi. 

She stayed with Ruth till Ruth fell asleep. Naomi slept beside Ruth the whole night. She did not go hope. She wanted to be a mother for once and correct the wrongs she had done. 

Martin entered the room and was astonished to find out that Naomi was still there. He slowly panted towards Ruth and gave her a peck. 

Unfortunately, Ruth coughed and started touching her belly. Martin was astonished and fled out of the room. He knew that it would wake up Naomi. 

" What's wrong?" Asked Naomi who was beginning to be scared. 

" Nothing mama. It was just a weird cough. I hope you had a wonderful night mum" said Ruth. 

" Yes! I spent the whole night thinking about you Ruth. How selfish could I be? I am now full of regrets. Your father might be coming today accompanied by your younger sister. They have been worried about. In two days time you will be discharged and we will gladly take you back home. The home which is our own hometown" said Naomi smiling.

" Yes mama. I accept every plan you have in my life. I want to go back to school too. I want to be a cousellor and someday I will reach children about the importance of life since life itself has taught me this the hard way" said Ruth. 

" You don't want to be a lawyer anymore? I thought that all you had wanted all this while was to be a lawyer"

" It was Martin's dream and not my dream. I was just following him since he was controlling me and he was my husband. You of all people know that I have always wanted to be a teacher mama and that's what I will be" said Ruth smiling. 

At least for once there was a smile on her face. It was as if she had never wanted her marriage with Martin. She was so much excited that once again ever since she got married she was going back to her hometown to be with her family again. 

" From now on I will be a mother. Not even Magdalene will be able to stop me from being a mother to you. I will do apsalutely everything just for you. You are my sweet Ruth. Your teachers have been asking for you since they have said that you were a clever student. They say that once you come back to school then they will make you the head girl of the school" said Naomi as she stroke Ruth's hair.

" Thank you mama. You make me cry today. You make me cry tears of joy and I think I will cry it for the next years. What I don't understand is why you hid all this from me as soon as you came to the closer gates" asked Ruth filled with lots if curiosity. 

" Shshsh...... everything has a plan" said Naomi. 

Ruth was amazed by the fact that her life was going to change.
