CHAPTER 208

" Please don't beg me. I have a family and I should be dedicated to them. I cannot really risk my life like this. Those patients will get well soon but me....." Said the doctor but Ruth suddenly interrupted him. 

" What about you? You will be happy with your family and your conscious will allow you to rest in peace? How many more lives will you put in danger because of your fears as a daughter? If you ask me, I think you are a little bit out of your senses. Anyway, it's your choice to make and not mine. You decide" said Ruth as she went back to the taxi.

She ordered the taxi driver to take her back to the hospital who accepted. As soon as they arrived, Ruth realized that she had not carry any money with her. She wanted to go back to the hospital in order to get the money but it was impossible as the taxi driver held Ruth's arm tightly and did not allow her to go.

" What are you saying? I want my money. I have waited for you for a long period of time while you were talking to that man. Now enough is enough. I want my money" shouted the taxi driver at Ruth.

" Why are you shouting like that? The money is inside the hospital. I am going to get and give you. If you like then you can follow me inside. Please understand that the money is in there" said Ruth a bit sad in a pellucid voice.

" I want my money. What has your money got to do with this hospital? Did you tell me that when you boardered my taxi?" Shouted the taxi driver once again filled with lots of anger.

" Well! I am just a stranger so you can treat anyhow you feel like. Why then don't you take my necklace instead?" Asked Ruth in a pellucid voice.

" I don't want your necklace. What I want is money? Your necklace will not put food on my table. Give me my money" shouted the taxi driver who wanted to hit Ruth but the doctor suddenly stopped him. 

He therefore went and stood in between Ruth and the taxi driver.

" How much money do you need from this lady?" Asked the doctor smiling.

" I want six hundred shillings and one hundred and fifty shillings waiting fee. Just that" said the taxi driver.

" Is that why you are insulting this lady? For seven hundred and fifty shillings which she has been telling you to follow her in the hospital to give you? I am so ashamed by men like you who would dare hit their hands on a lady. Take your money and leave my hospital" said the doctor who gave the taxi driver the money and signalled him to leave.

The taxi driver took the money and shamelessly went away. 

The doctor had finally realized that what the doctor had told him was the truth. 

" Thank you Ruth. You have helped me not to make the worst decision of my life. You have made me realize that I can never choose neither between family or the patients. You have made me realize that they are both important to me. Ryan and Nelly are still in this hospital. I am going to take you there" said the doctor smiling.

" But you said....." Said Ruth but the doctor suddenly interrupted her.

" I know what I said but Ryan and Nelly told me to do so. They did not want you to leave Mambo town. You need to talk to them and make them see they light the same way that you have made me to see. I am sorry" said the doctor who held Ruth's arm and took her to the different ward where he had taken Ryan and Nelly. 

As soon as they arrived at the ward, the doctor sifnalltro Ruth to enter and locked the door from the inside. Evelyn and the family were also stressed about the situation. They had already called for a taxi which already left with a customer due to delays. The taxi driver was angry with them. 

They say on Ruth's ward wondering as their eyes turned to pale. They kept wondering on what to do but could not come into a conclusion. 

" Nelly! Ryan! Why are you people doing this? Did you really think that I would leave this town just like just? I could never do that. I must attend Jackson's burial because after all, we were the ones who caused his dsath. If Ryan wouldn't have gone at his home and pick him up, then he would have been alive today. If I didn't decide to drive faster that day, then he would have been still alive. Each one of us has a fault" said Ruth a little bit sad. 

" You mean that you have decide to stay behind till my brother gets well? Why? We are not even related to you because I've not believed a word of what Evelyn was saying. She's an attention seeker and hone wrecker" said Nelly.

" She will pay for her sins very soon. Today I am leaving the hospital. I am going back to the mansion. I will wait for your arrival and as soon as you take over the leadership, then I will leave this town. I cannot just leave the people of this town in such wasted hands. I will forever hate myself" said Ruth.

" You go Ruth. Your family must be worried about you. Please go and make their hearts to rest and prove to them that you are still here. They mustn't think that you have run away from your duties and the hospital as well" said Nelly who signalled to Ruth to leave.

" But Nelly..." Said Nelly but Ruth suddenly interrupted.

" Stop it Ruth. You really have to stop it. Why are you always like this? Sacrificing about everything even if we are not your priority. Go and attend Jackson's burial. If you have to deal with Lawrence and Vivian, then I have one condition. You must go back to your career as a lawyer and start working" said Nelly.

" Is that what you want?" Ruth asked Nelly a little bit calm. 

" Yes Nelly. That is what I really want. It will really make me happy if you do so. But for now, just leave and stop making the rest of the family stressed because of us" said Nelly.

Ruth obidiently left the room. She went back to her ward. As soon as she arrived, she was astonished to find Martin and Akeshia there. Ruth silently ignored them as she went and sat on the ward chair. She was indeed tired after running after the doctor too much. 

" Where have you been Ruth? Have you not grown tired of making your family rest now and then?" Martin asked Ruth filled with lots of anger.

" Now my son had to come all the way here accompanied by me after hearing your call. Can't you always take care of yourself. Why do you always need help because of me in one way or another? What sort of a person are you?" Asked Akeshia filled with lots of anger. 

" If it really hurts, then why have you come Akeshia? I am not your priority. Why then should you care about me? You have no idea about what I really I am. Just get out Akeshia. You don't have to stay here if staying here really hurts you like that" said Ruth.

" Yes! I will be waiting for you outside Martin" said Akeshia who angrily left Ruth's ward.

" Please go with your mother Martin. Thank you for the attention that you have given me today. It proves alot to me. Thank you Martin. Your mother us waiting for you outside" said Ruth in a pellucid voice as Martin silently left the room. 

Martin did not really want anything that would make Ruth angry. She had really recovered but had not fully recovered. This meant that every strain and stress would make her to fall sick once again.

" Let go Ruth. We should go back to Ryan's mansion before it gets dark" said Evelyn in a commanding manner.

" No grandma Evelyn. We are not going back to the mansion. We are going back to our town. Out beautiful Olam town. In my beautiful grandma's house. I have to go back to work. I am sorry for any inconveniences that I have caused all of you" said Ruth feeling a little bit sad. 

She was sad because she felt that everyone was sad by her decision. 

" Is that what you want? Thank goodness you have come back to your senses. Let's go then. I have missed my house and my town and my mama" said Naomi who carried Ruth's on her arms and left the ward. 

Ruth and the rest of the family obidiently followed her. They boardered a taxi to Olam town. 

Nelly felt that she had made the right choice setting such conditions towards Ruth. She knew that Ruth needed her career to save her from evil people.
