CHAPTER 209
Their taxi arrived at Olam town in the wee hours of the night. Evelyn felt that it was not comfortable to go to Magdalene's house since the house was a bit far from Olam town.
They all agreed to go to Evelyn's home. Ruth also agreed but simply because she wanted to find out the main reason why Evelyn was in their lives.
As soon as they arrived at Evelyn's home, Evelyn refused that they should pay the taxi driver the ammount of fare they had used.
" Why not grandma Evelyn? He has used alot of money to take us here. This won't be fair" said Ruth a little bit worried.
" Would you rather leave or would you rather watch yourself burn till death?" Evelyn asked the taxi driver.
" Take your money sir and ensure next time you don't carry your passengers before they have paid the departure fee" said Naomi as she handed over three thousand shillings to the taxi driver.
Everybody was astonished by Evelyn's behavior. She was truly different as they thought she was. This made them to doyvt Evelyn even more but nobody dared to speak a word.
Afterwards, Evelyn led them into her mansion. All the way everything seemed scary. Ruth could still see the face of Magdalene everywhere they passed. If was like she was trying to tell them so something.
As soon as they arrived at the mansion, Ruth decided to go to the backyard to check if she could still see Evelyn's graveyard. Astonishingly, the ground was clear as Ruth could not see any graveyard. This made Ruth to be filled with lots of fear.
It made her to really wonder alot. Who was this woman? Not even a vision was able to tell Ruth what she really wanted to know.
" What are you looking for? This is my backyard" said Evelyn.
" I know that this is your backyard. I am just trying to forget my sorrows by standing here. I do feel that there is nothing I can do right now. I feel like.... I don't know. I just want to go back to my grandma's home tomorrow morning. Excuse me, I really want to go and sleep" said Ruth who went inside the house.
Ruth did not want to entertain Evelyn or anger her. So she decided to go to her specified room and slept.
Not so long was the night as everybody had slept at the wee hours of the night.
The morning did not glitter as it should have been . Ruth woke everybody up earlier than expected. She wanted them to leave Evelyn's mansion right away.
Unfortunately, nobody dared to wake up as much as Ruth tried all her best. It was as if the had all been put to sleep deep asleep. Ruth decided to go and sit in the living room filled with lots of worries. She was afraid that Evelyn would try to do something to harm them.
" Do you enjoy seeing them sleeping like that? It's because your conscious is not clean as I think it is. You know too much about me but now I think it's time for you to know the truth" said Evelyn.
" What truth am I supposed to know grandma Evelyn?" Asked Ruth as fear gripped her heart.
" I am here to avenge my loss. I am here to take my closer gates back to me. You are the only one who will help me. I know that I have lied about Magdalene Mariana. Even I don't know about her excistence. The Mariana family is not your relative. I only did that because I did not want you to leave the hospital yet but you left. Now there is no need to hide from you about my true intentions" said Evelyn.
" Why do you want the closer gates Evelyn?" Ruth asked Evelyn filled with lots of curiosity.
" I never got to enjoy it yet it was my idea. I shared it with your grandma Magdalene who procured all the money to start the closer gates. I want it back now since you do not really want to go and rule there" said Evelyn.
" I left the closer gates along time ago. All my memories have not been good memories but bad. What do you expect me to do grandma Evelyn? Why are you inviting troubles in my life once again?" Asked Ruth.
" Do you think I am inviting trouble in your life? You are wrong but then you have to help me. You have to do this if you really care about this little family of your or else they might sleep forever" said Ebdlyn in a commanding voice.
" Fine! But before I do that, I want to visit my grandma's grave for one last time" said Ruth as she folded her arms.
" Okay! You can do it but on one condition" said Evelyn.
" What condition?" Asked Ruth.
" You will to go accompanied by me. I will not really have to listen to what you say. I just want to be there. Magdalene was my best friend" said Evelyn I'm a convincing manner.
" There is no problem if you go with me grandma Evelyn. Shall we go?" Asked Ruth smiling.
" Yes my dear. Let's go. After you have stepped your foot at the closer gates, then this little witches of yours will finally wake up" said Evelyn smiling.
Both Evelyn and Ruth left to Magdalene's graveyard. The graveyard was a bit far from Olam town center yet Magdalene drove for a few minutes using her witches powers.
As soon as they arrived at the mansion, Ruth went to Magdalene's graveyard. She really needed to speak with her.
" Dear grandma,
You have left me with a very huge responsibility in this family of ours and brought somebody we don't know. Her true intentions have not yet been revealed. Now she wants to go back to the closer gates and rule there. Even you know that that is not what I want grandma.
I want something else. I want to rest. I am tired of sacrificing my life for the people I love. Please give me wisdom to know what is best and what is not best for me"
Ruth said as she knelt beside her Magdalene's graveyard. At that instant, Ruth saw Magdalene carrying the ancestral vase. There was a black smoke coming out of the vase. This made Ruth to be filled with lots of worries. She was not able to understand what Magdalene meant.
" The vase is the power" Ruth suddenly heard such whispers from the passing wind.
The wind kept coming closer to her till Ruth stood and went backwards from the graveyard till she accidentally fell on Evelyn.
" What is the problem with you? Can't you see where you are going?" Evelyn asked Ruth as Magdalene's spirit suddenly dissapeared.
Ruth silently began to gather all what she had seen and the information she had collected from the vision.
Ruth finally concluded that the ancestral vase was connected to Evelyn. How was what she needed to find out. Yet time would tell.
" I am sorry grandma Evelyn. I know that now I can fully go to the closer gates willingly. You just tell me what I need to once I reach there" said Ruth a bit hesitant.
" Have you really forgotten what you need to do? You are really lazy when it comes to thinking about serious matters. You need to claim your rights as the next of kin who is the supposed owner of the closer gates. Do you promise me that you will do apsalutely that and not fail me when the situations become worse than you can imagine?" Asked Evelyn smiling.
" I promise but only for now when I do not know how to help my family when you are harming them. Let's go. I want to make my arrival in a very special manner that even you will be surprised" said Ruth as she entered the car and signalled Evelyn to enter.
" Fine! But I need to know what you are planning. I still do not have trust in you" said Evelyn as she entered the car.
Evelyn found it hard to drive. It was as if she had now become afraid of Ruth.
" What?...w..what do you plan to do at the closer gates? You, you must tell me because it is my plan to go to the closer gates and take over my throne back to me using you as my advantage" said Evelyn.
" Why would I tell you about my plans? My little family is suffering right now" said Ruth a bit angry.
" You must tell me because if you have plans to kill me, then you are mistaken. That is something that will never happen. It's very had to kill the origin of the devil's" said Evelyn.
Ruth widened her eyes in disbelief. She felt that Evelyn was far more dangerous that she thought. Therefore, defeating her would take alot of time and strength.
