Javier looked at Hattie on the bed, he had actually been there for over ten minutes. He had originally come to ask her about his offer to stay with his sister but here he was staring helplessly at this girl, he couldn't seem to take his eyes off her, he loved the way she slept so peacefully, he didn't remember the last time he slept like that. She
tilted to the other side making a little sound. she stretched her arms tiredly as she shut her eyes open, she almost screamed when she saw Javier who was at her bedside. What was he even doing there, why was he in her room? She sat up as she looked at him confused, rubbing her eyes with the back of palm trying to get the sleep out of her eyes.
"Javier what are you doing here?" she asked amidst a yawn. She looked around the room as she scratched the back of her neck in confusion.
"Have you made up your mind to go and stay with my sister?" Javier asked
"Really? She asked in disbelief "You came here to ask me that, you couldn't wait till morning?"
"Have you?" He asked impatiently
"well I was thinking about it and I think I will have to listen to you, sadly, but you were right, staying here is a bad idea and I've thought about going to your sister's house and I'm ready" Hattie said in defeat. She knew she had to stop the tough Girl act, she had to protect herself and she was going to listen to Javier.
Javier was not surprised, he knew she was going to accept after the dream he planted in her head
The previous night.
"are we going now?" she asked
"of course as soon as possible"
"This night? Her eyes went wide open
"Yes"
One of the reasons Javier wanted her to go this night was that he didn't know how long he would be able to tone down his violent nature. When she was around, it was almost as if she was the one triggering it. Anytime he was close to her, he would feel that weird energy coursing through his veins, he knew he had to do something fast, he needed to get her to his sister's house. He wanted her out because of Andrew and his corny nature and the other reason he wanted her out was definitely him, he didn't want to hurt her, he knew it will only take time before he couldn't control himself anymore and he had to act fast.
"is that why you came to my room?" Hattie asked
"yes and I also came to take you there" Javier added
Hattie was really surprised
"so fast, Why the rush?" she asked
"I just want you to be there Hattie, how hard is it not to argue" he said frustrated
"has things gotten so bad?" Hattie asked
"not really" Javier replied "I just want you to be safe"
Truth be told, Hattie actually felt safe with Javier around. She did not know how she felt about going to his sister's house. She wondered why Javier wanted her to go there when he could clearly protect her but she guess he wanted it that way. She was really reluctant about going to his sister's house, she didn't like the idea but she had no choice, she had to do it for her own safety. She groaned in frustration as she looked at Javier who was sitting at the edge of the bed.
"why are you doing all this?" she asked
"I just want you to be safe" javier replied
"I'm sorry if I'm causing you a lot of troubles" Hattie said as she looked at her hands nervously.
"no you aren't causing me any troubles, I am the one that wants to protect you, I caused all of this"
"what do you mean?" Hattie asked
"you won't understand but I promise to explain everything to you later"
"explain what?" she asked
"we don't have time for that, we need to get you ready to go over to my sister's house"
"can we make it tomorrow?" she asked
"no we can't, why can't you just agree without being stubborn"
Truth be told, Javier felt he was going to transform this night and he didn't want her to see him like that. Hattie staying with Bella for now was the best option. He was barely even talk properly, he already felt that sensation in his body he knew it won't take long before his beast comes out, he needed to take her out as soon as possible.
"Is he going to come here with you around?" Hattie asked as curiosity swept through her
"Who?"
"The person that is trying to kill me"
"No he can't come here as long as he knows you are with me, he wouldn't even dare"
"How well do you know this person because you seem to know alot about this person"
"Hattie can you get prepared and stop with all the questioning" he said brushing her question off like it was nothing.
"fine" she sighed "let me get prepared" she finally gave in.
"I'll be in the living room " he said standing up, he walked over to the door as he placed his hand on the door handle, he looked at her one more time. His legs were shaky he was losing himself he did not have much time left. Why did his season come so soon? He couldn't help but ask. He haven't experienced this for five years now why was it coming now. He had ignored the symptoms when he first noticed it thinking it was nothing but with what was happening to him lately he knew that his season was at its peak.
He took a last glance of her before exiting. Hattie just sat on the bed looking like a lost puppy. Her eyes were aching at the little amount of sleep she got. She groaned as she stood up from the bed lazily. She reached out to her phone that was on her bed. She checked the time
'2:09am' Why couldn't he just wait till tomorrow. She slept late because she was scared of seeing that demon in her dream again. Now here she was, being forced to wake up. She wondered why he wanted her to go his sister's house so fast. Why was it so important that he couldn't wait till the next morning.
She dragged her feet to the bathroom, she grabbed a toothpaste and a toothbrush. There was no way she would go to his sister's house with a bad breath. The least she could do was to just brush her teeth. It was too cold to shower anyway. Winter was surely approaching.
She moved the toothbrush in her mouth as white paste surrounded her mouth she looked at the mirror in front of her. She was looking much better, the bruises were healing, her face was starting to get so much better and look much better. Before now, she could hardly look at the mirror. Her eyes were too baggy, her chin were too swollen, she really hated to look at the mirror but now she looked much better. She spat the toothpaste out of her mouth as she took fresh water from the tap to wash off the remaining toothpaste from her mouth. She exited the bathroom, she walked over to her closet in search of a coat. It was way too cold outside to go out with just night pyjamas. She found a red coat. It was one of the clothes that Javier had bought for her. She reached for it and slipped on the coat. Then she headed for the door leading downstairs.
She met a rather worried looking Javier who kept pacing around the sitting room jamming his fist against his palm in a really nervous way. He turned to look at her. She could see fear in his eyes. That was strange, Javier was always the tough type. If he ever looked worried then the problem was surely too big for him to handle.
" are you ready? " he asked
" yes I am but you don't look too good, why, is there something wrong?"
" no everything is fine " he said with a reassuring smile but she knew better, he surely had something eating him up, judging from the way he was so nervous and that was so unlike him.
" are you sure though? "
" yes, you worry too much, let's just go" he said as he headed for the front door, he turned to look at her when she wasn't following him.
" what is it Hattie? "
" you just look too trouble to be ignored "
" I already told you, I am fine now can we go now"
" what are you so tensed up about?"
" a lot, I have a lot on my head right now. I can barely think straight now. If You would just comply with me, I would really appreciate it " he said as Hattie followed him in defeat.
They both walked to the garage as she held her coat around her body firmly. She was already freezing due to the cold she was receiving outside. She would have been in bed right now, enjoying the warmth of her bed but here she was, running for her dear life. Javier opened the car door for her as she entered into it. He also turn around and enter through the other side. He took a last glance at her. She felt quite uncomfortable with the way he looked at her. Her hair was messy and she hadn't even taken a shower she sure did not look anything attractive. Why was he there staring at her, Was he trying to make her feel insecure? Well it was working.
He slowly removed his eyes off her, starting the car's engine as he drove backwards slowly, in order to reverse the car. She notice how hard he gripped on the car steering firmly. He was really sweating which was strange because the weather was so cold. His eyes were bright red as though he just finished taking vodka. His breathing was beyond normal, faster than usual and more intense than usual. He looked sick and hurt. Hattie couldn't help but worry. What was going on? she thought. He breathed out sharply through his mouth. He kept his eyes on the road, tapping nervously on the car steering.
Javier knew it would only take a matter of time before he completely loses himself. He could feel the slight throb in his head he knew it would only take little time before he starts hearing voices and he didn't want her to be there when he starts hearing it.
His phone beeped, He turned to look at his phone, it was a new text. He held the phone with one hand and other one on the steering, he opened the message and it read.
"I didn't know you will go this far in protecting this girl"
Javier read the message inwardly. He didn't need anybody to tell him that it was from Andrew. He cursed as he hit his steering with his fist angrily, which made Hattie jump in shock.
Andrew really had eyes everywhere. He really had the upper hand and Javier did not like the idea. He needed to really do something fast but keeping Hattie safe was the first decision he made concerning the issue. He turned to look at her, she was very startled, he must have scared her.
" everything is fine" he blurted out without being asked because he knew the question he was going to be asked next from his curious Hattie.
"Ok"Hattie said plainly. He clearly did not want her to know about what was going on, so she wasn't going to push it, she just laid back on her seat as she placed her eyes on the road.
"I will tell you everything when the time is right" Javier added
"I hope so"
Hattie knew that Javier obviously saw something in his phone. With the way his face changed when he looked at his phone, she knew something was up probably he got a very disturbing text. She wasn't going to ask anymore questions because she was already tired of Asking. She was just going to stay back and wait for anything to happen. She trusted him and she knew he will keep her safe.
*****
Hattie got down from the car as she slammed the door behind her. She tried to catch up with Javier who was working faster than usual. she tried her best to meet up but he was so fast. She didn't even have the time to look around. she was just walking wherever Javier went. She was sure of one thing, this house had to be one of the biggest she had ever seen.
The house was quiet and peaceful and she loved it that way. They stopped at the front of the door as javier rang the bell impatiently, continuously. He ran his hands through his hair as you rang the bell again. Hattie found this rather annoying, she wondered how the person inside would feel. If she was the person, she would have probably come out and smashed Javier head on the floor.
The door opened to a annoyed looking lady. She looked well in her late 20s. She glared at Javier as she kept her hands on her hips. She stared at Javier before looking at Hattie. She looked at Hattie too intently, she had a look of confusion on her face. She's squinted her eyes as she looked at Hattie very disturbingly. Hattie shifted uncomfortably as she kept looking at Javier, trying to lose eye contact with this lady whose eyes were boring holes into her. The lady's Expression no longer held anger but it held disbelief. She looked at Javier once more as she finally said.
"You are lucky that you were my brother, I would have ripped your head out of it's socket" she threatened with a hint of humour in her voice. Bella noticed how uncomfortable Javier was looking, the way his face was all tensed up. She had a feeling that his season has arrived and that was a bad thing for any lashedta.
"Can you at least take us in first?" Javier said impatiently
Bella backed away from the door in order to give room for javier and Hattie to enter.
Javier held onto Hattie's hands as he ushered her in. He had told her earlier not to bring any luggage, that packing a luggage would waste a lot of time and they didn't have much time to waste"
Javier kept wondering why Bella looked at Hattie that way. Bella never acted that way unless there was something up and he knew that there was something up that he did not know about and he needed to find out.
