Javier tilted to the other side of his bed, still deep in sleep. He could hear his phone beeping, constantly but he was too lazy to get it. He groaned in fustration as a result of the loud noise the phone had. He finally got up, ran his hands through his hair. He searched for his phone but the beeping had already stopped. Somebody was calling but he did not bother to check. Placing the phone back on the cupboard beside him, he went back to sleep. The beeping began again. This time much louder, as a result of the angle he placed the phone. He got up again, his eyes still heavy with sleep and his head still light on dizziness, he picked up the phone and placed it on his ear without bothering to check the caller
"Javier" the voice said in panic and immediately, sleep left him and consciousness overtook him. It was his mother and she sounded so troubled on the phone. Her voice sounded more rapsy as though she had been crying. She did not sound good at all
"Mum, what happened?" he asked, sliding out of bed, hurriedly. He was ready and willing to go over to California that night to find out what the problem was.
"Am at your house door, I have been calling you to come open the door for me but you haven't been taking your calls" her voice came out more shakily. Javier couldn't tell if it was the weather that had an effect on her voice or she was really scared. And even If she was scared, of what exactly?
"I will be right there" Javier replied, ending the call. He walked out of his bedroom, made his way down the stair and proceeded to the front door. He opened it . She was really scared, looking as terrified as hell. Her eyes were puffy and had a little shade of red. She didn't have any makeup and that was so unlike his mum. She always made it a norm to always put on a little amount of make up before leaving for any place. What baffled him the most was how she was able to make it to Chicago all the way from California this night. Javier remembered how unconvincing she was about coming over but here she was at his front door looking scared as hell
"What happened?" That was the first statement that left his mouth. He shifted backward in order for her to get enough space to pass through the door. She got in, making her way to first couch she could find. She sat down for a while, placing her right hand on her chest as she inhaled rabidly. She stayed in that's position for over 3 minutes, ignoring Javier's question
"Mum?" He called our again
"Is every thing alright?"
He asked sitting beside her
"Javier, who is Lagatha?" She blurted out and Javier stood dead on tracks. Lagatha must have shown her self to his mother.
"What do you mean?" Javier asked hoping to get a 'nevermind' as a reply. He certainly didn't know how to explain the whole situation to his mother without her freaking out
"A woman fucking came to my house and sent her regards to you. It was wierd because she was definetely not normal. She could probably the devil or something. The scary part is that She threatened me over some contract deal that you had with Harry. So would you start explaining to me, the meaning of what she said?" Her voice wasn't shaky in fear anymore. It had a hint of anger in it. She stared at Javier in anticipation of hearing what he had to say and Javier on the other hand didn't know where to begin.
"Do you belong to a form of occult Javier? Probably, Aum Shinrikyo or something?"
"Calm down" Javier replied racking his head for a possible explanation but none was coming forth. There was no way he was going to tell his mother that he was a lashedta. Or,Scrap that. Her two children where lashedta. He knew he had no choice but to manipulate her into forgetting it.
"Well start talking" she half yelled
"Well you see" Javier explained with his eyes peering into her' s, not breaking the eye contact. He stared at her intently, reaching her soul. He spoke slowly, looking at her still. She blinked constantly and Javier knew that he was getting into her head.
"Its nothing to worry about mum" he said still looking into her eyes
"Fine whatever you say. Am so tired" She remarked and a yawn escaped from her lips.
Javier breathed out at the thought of the whole problem. At least she was off his neck so she wasn't going to worry him about an explanation. She even assumed if he was an occult member. Truth be told, it was way better to be an occult member than belonging to the devil. A lashedta was a no joke affair. One can't choose to get in or get out. Once you are in, you are in forever.
Javier never thought that Lagatha would go this far just to get him to terminate a bloody contract. He had already made up his mind not to bow to her threat so she can bring up any adversity that deem fit for her. He already knew that she was never going to get to him
"Let me fix you a room" Javier offered, beckoning her to get up. He walked in front with her trailing from behind
"When did you book a flight?" Javier's asked and his voice echoed through the stair as a result of how big it was and plus, it was night
"Its late" Javier added, stating the obvious.
"Around 7pm today"
"Why?" Javier asked, checking if his manipulations worked. He had never used his powers on his mother before so he didn't know if she was immuned to it or not.
"Well I just thought that I should come over and see how things are going over here. It's been long I came here by the way"
"Good" Javier remarked nodding his head. He was sure that she had totally forgotten about Lagatha's encounter. And about Lagatha, he would deal with her later. She wants war and that is what he was willing to give her and he isn't going to hold anything back
"Good for what?" She asked, curiously as a result of how he made the statement.
"Oh" Javier said, rubbing the back of his head
"I just felt that it was good you thought about us, over here"
"Of course, you people are all I have"
"And felix?" Javier asked, causing Anne to roll her eyes
"Why do you always have to bring up felix in every of our discussion?. Must you always paint him as the bad guy?"
"I never said anything to taint him. I just asked about him"
"Of course you did" Anne said sarcastically, rolling her eyes
"I just have this wierd feeling" Anne said and Javier turned to her
"Like what?" he placed his hands in his pocket
"I feel scared but I can't seem to place my finger on the cause"
"It could be the flight" Javier said, convincing her. This was actually that after effect of manipulations. You can make someone forget about an event but you can't mask the person's feelings too. He had managed to make her forget what happened but he would never be able to remove the feeling of fear that she originally had when she got here. It would take strong magic to do that. That was why he kept on wondering how Andrew was able to hide Hattie's emotion to the extent that he couldn't connect to it nor feel it
"No it can't be the flight. I have been on many flight before. This isn't my first. It can't be the cause of my fright"
"Just get some rest, you will feel much better tomorow. I will also send for Bella. She would be so glad to find out that you are here"
"Alright" She shrugged
Javier stopped in front of a room door. It was Hattie's. Luckily, it wasn't as dusty as the others. He didn't like the idea of giving Hattie's room to someone but, he couldn't make his mum sleep in one of the dusty rooms. He most definetly needed a house cleaner. He was too busy to attend to every room in this house. He would have thought about the cleaning cost when he started the building structure. There were to many rooms to begin with and he did not have the time to attend to all of them
He opened the room door and walked in. Her scent still lingered across the room. It had been a while. He most definetly avoided this part of the house beacuse he knew he might break down. He really missed her. His house had never felt more empty than the time she left him. He walked slowly, proceeding into the room. He went over to the wardrobe, the clothes he had earlier bought for her were still there. He regretted ever letting her go. He felt that he didn't convince her enough about the reason he killed her ex boyfriend. Why couldn't she just see that Westin was never good for her. If She didn't leave here in the first place, Andrew would have not been able to adopt her. Javier ran his hand, slightly across the clothes
"A girl stays here?" His mother asked. She clearly saw the cloth filled closet
"Stayed" Javier corrected
"She left?" He could here the disappointment in her voice. She had never really seen Javier with any girl before, so she must have been really anxious to find out whom the clothes were for. Javier never really introduced zenni to his mother. It was a really short time relationship before Andrew finally killed her. He failed zenni and he was failing Hattie too. If the same fate befalls hattie, he would never forgive himself for it. He promised to protect Hattie. He promised himself, now he was failing, now she was in the hands of heartless Andrew who could do anything he wanted to do with her in his own free will. If only Javier could counter the power that Andrew used in masking Hattie's feelings, then, Javier would be able to find Hattie. He had already started seeking way to counter the power with the help of Bella also. He needed to get Hattie away from Andrew as soon as possible and he wasn't going to waste time doing it.
"Yea she did" Javier finally replied with a heavy heart
"She didn't love you?"
"I honestly don't want to talk about it" he stated and Anne could tell that her son was really heart broken
"I messed up" Javier said shakily, running his hands through his in exasperation
"You can always fix it"
"Its not that simple. She it too far from my reach. I cant connect to her, I can't talk to her, I can't reach her. I feel so useless"
"She left the country?"
"Things would have been more easier if she just left the country. This is most definetly not the case"
"I'm sure you can handle. I raised you to be a strong, and calculative young man. I'm sure you would be able to figure your way out of this"
"thanks" he said nodding slightly
"Are you okay with me, sleeping in her room" she asked with a concern filled voice
"Sure, the other rooms are dusty, I can't make you sleep in them. You could sleep here for the night while I prepare a room for you"
"Don't bother dear. I will be leaving tomorow"
"My God" Javier exclaimed
"Why are so tied to California. Why do you wanna go there so badly?"
"You know the reason, I don't see why I should explain my self to my son"
"You are not going back to California"
"You can't tell me what to do, I am booking the first flight to California tomorow"
"You just got here for goodness sake, aren't you even going to see Bella first?"
"Oh I almost forgot, fine , I would see Bella before leaving. Happy now?"
"I would be more than happy if you just stay in Chicago for good"
"I'm sorry but I cant" She shrugged
Javier sighed in fustration and exhaustion. He would most definitely have to manipulate her again because there was no way he would convince her into staying.
