Chapter 191

"I need to check her, she I not dilating, as she is supposed to". Joseph screamed, at the doctor, by the time he got back to check on Anna.

The doctor didn't like the fact that he was been bullied, in his own hospital, but he was already used to expectant father's, acting weird.

Their scanning machine was bad, it was the only hospital in the area, and it, lacked so many facilities.

Joseph was helpless, he needed to monitor every thing he was going to do with Anna, the child bearing process, but he won't be able to do that, if he cannot even check the position of the baby.

But then, since things were this way, he was going to have to improvised, after all, years ago, when there were no technoloi as such, people still had children, and they had no issue, bringing  children to the world.

Anna was worried, she was feeling too heavy, but she felt pain all over her.

Joseph could not find anything at the hospital, this was one reason, he would have loved to build a standard hospital, if he goes on with the process, something might go wrong.

Maybe he was feeling he needed all the technology in the world, because, the woman involved was Anna, maybe if it were to be someone else, he would have tried to know what to do.

He went back in to check her, he even dipped his hands to check her, he went back to his uncle.

"We need to get to town". He told him.

"Does she have that much time? He asked, and he nodded. "I just checked her". 

And just like that, Anna was taken away, to Joseph's formal hospital, there were too many doctors available, while his uncle took Anna inside, he arranged his disguise in the car, he was entering somewhere he was not supposed to, he was taking a huge risk.

By the time he got inside, he was unrecognizable,  he was shown the way to where Anna was, so many of them , recognised Anna, from the glass door, Anna saw Joseph standing, she made sign to tell the doctor to allow him in.

She did not mention his name, but he was allowed in, he felt happy to partake in the process.

Anna was scanned immediately, and it was discovered, that she was having three babies inside.

"I thought they were two". He whispered, but that was not true, he too had suspected, while they were at the hospital, in the village. It was obvious, he could see the babies, his heart was filled with joy, he wanted to cry, but he smiled instead.

Joseph, didn't have to do much, the doctors were experts, soon she started having regular contractions

"your contractions are regular and you're having about 3 in every 10-minute period". One of the doctors said, and the others, hot to work, with each being one thing or the other.

And just then, her waters breaks

"Ahhhh". Anna cries. "Don't worry your contractions are very strong and you feel you need pain relief, but don't worry, soon it would all be over, think about the babies, you will have them in your arms pretty soon". The doctor was so encouraging, that Joseph felt useless, but he was happy to watch her give life, he fell all the more inlove with her.

"I need pain relief". Anna cried, and screamed. The pain is too much". She added, and the doctor checked her again, to see how well she was progressing, Joseph saw she was doing well, he was happy and so was the doctor.

That was a doctor's pride, happy to see that things are going as planned, or as supposed.

Left to Joseph, he wish he could rush it all, but Labour was not like that, there are processes to these things.

Your cervix needs to open about 10cm for your baby to pass through it. This is what's called being fully dilated.

In a 1st labour, the time from the start of established labour to being fully dilated is usually 8 to 12 hours. It's often quicker (around 5 hours), in a 2nd or 3rd pregnancy.

When you reach the end of the 1st stage of labour, you may feel an urge to push.

Monitoring your baby in labour

Your midwife will monitor you and your baby during labour to make sure you're both coping well.

This will include using a small handheld device to listen to your baby's heart every 15 minutes. You'll be free to move around as much as you want.

Your midwife may suggest electronic monitoring if there are any concerns about you or your baby, or if you choose to have an epidural.

Electronic monitoring involves strapping 2 pads to your bump. One pad is used to monitor your contractions and the other is used to monitor your baby's heartbeat. These pads are attached to a monitor that shows your baby's heartbeat and your contractions

Sometimes a clip called a foetal heart monitor can be attached to the baby's head instead. This can give a more accurate measurement of your baby's heartbeat.

You can ask to be monitored electronically even if there are no concerns. Having electronic monitoring can sometimes restrict how much you can move around.

If you have electronic monitoring with pads on your bump because there are concerns about your baby's heartbeat, you can take the monitor off if your baby's heartbeat is shown to be normal.

A foetal scalp monitor will usually only be removed just as your baby is born, not before.

It was that serious, but things started to get really better, he became so happy to see that she was dilating fast, after all, this was her second pregnancy and maybe her last, because if she was having three babies at once, that only mean, they would have so much work to be done.

He was going to have to be around more often to help out in doing everything in the house, but then he remembered that they were in the lion's den, and just as he had expected, he saw Miles walk into the hospital, Joseph rushed to his uncle looking all scared.

"Don't worry, I called him, he wants to see her". His uncle said, and it felt like his uncle was going insane, that was his second mistake for that night.

Just a while ago, he broke a crazy news to Anna, something he was supposed to share with him first, and now, he called Miles to come see her at the hospital?

"Are you okay, how can you even do that? Soon the entire Anderson would be here, are you even thinking right?

Miles walked up to Maxwell.

"I believe you are Maxwell". He said, shaking hands with him, he took his hands and asked about Anna, he only waved at Joseph, he could not recognize him. 

Joseph excused himself and went back to check how Anna was progressing, bit then, it felt like Anna lost it, she could not hide anymore, she was calling Joseph.

"Joseph this is so painful, please help me, helpe make it easier". The doctors looked at the disguised man, since they already know the story of Joseph, but he was quick to clear their doubt.

"She is having mental issues, she believes every GYNECOLOGIST' is Joseph, I don't even know who this Joseph is, but I guess he must be someone she loves". He whispered, and the doctors all laughed, but became serious again, with what they were doing.

She was now 8cm dilated, which was a good sign, and labour was now in full progress.

Anna was screaming now at the top of her voice, it was breaking Joseph's heart, but unlike other women, she had sweet things to say.

"I love you Joseph, I live you so much, you have made my life complete, our babies are going to be blessed to have a father like you".

"Don't worry, Joseph is here, and he can hear you, he would be happier, if you push now". Anna heard the doctor say, she opened her eyes that had been closed, for a while and she smiled, but then she got a sharp pain and screamed in pain almost immediately.

I can see her head". Joseph screamed and they looked at him.

"Her head? How would you know it's a her first? Was what the doctor asked, and he looked away, not sure how he knew,bor if he was right, but he sure wish to have a baby girl, as his first.

Hearing all what Anna had said, had made him the happiest man, he was indeed, happy to have met her, he wish he could tell her that he loves her, even more than life itself, but that would be exposing himself, and exposing himself, meant a whole lot, it was saying goodbye to his life of freedom, and a chance of ever being in his Children's life.

But he whispered " I love you most".
