Are You Getting Set For Jail?

Ify was not convinced. She begged Fred to come help her so that she can go look for Lanre. Not wanting to see her cry, Fred asked Ify to wait so he can go put on his shirt. He got into his house, took a shirt, wore it and came out. “Let’s go!”. He said.

“But where do we start from looking for her?” Fred asked. “I don’t know! We will just look for her anywhere our spirit leads us to”. Ify said as they approached the gate that leads out of their compound. Just then the gates opened to reveal a figure on hoodie. Ify had not immediately noticed the person so she had almost ran into the person.

“Watch where you are going na! Hian!” Ify said exclaiming at the end. The person she had spoken to did not even answer her. Then she turned back to look at the person who just passed her.

“Lanre! Olanrewaju!” Ify called when she realised it was the said friend she was about going to look for in the dark night that has just passed her. Lanre stopped and asked her why she was calling her name like that. “Nothing ma! I was just checking to be sure I am not seeing a ghost”. Ify said.

“Now that you are sure you are not seeing a ghost, is your caretaker still alive!” Lanre asked Ify. Ify marvelled at Lanre’s question. Instead of she to ask if he was fine or not, she decided to use offensive words.

“Are you getting set for jail or you are planning to hide!” Ify asked Lanre in return. Since she has choose the wrong words to ask a question she could have asked well to show she cared.

“Whoa whoa! Hollup! Ify, I thought you were the one crying just now that Lanre was missing? And what is this talk about caretaker being dead or alive and about prison?” Fred asked. He was about to say something else when Lanre and Ify told him “Shut up!” in unison. Ify left both Fred and Lanre outside heading towards their flat.

“So, Ify told me you do not have a boyfriend, how is that possible?” Fred asked Lanre as he walked towards her hoping to start a conversation.

“The both of you are stupid. And you Fred, you do not have sense. You are looking for other people’s affairs to talk about. Anupama!” Lanre insulted him. Then she walked away. Suddenly she stopped and turned to Fred. “Ps, thanks for escorting Ify to come look for me, even though you guys never went past the gate”. Lanre said.

“What is the need thanking me again after you have insulted me, even call me anupama?” Fred said. Lanre looked at him blankly. Then she said, “Abeg get out! I de thank you, you no happy”. Lanre said and walked away this time not looking back. She had planned not to say anything when she gets back home, but when Ify had scolded her for not watching where she was going when it was clear that it was Ify who was not watching had spited her. Calling her a ghost was what added fuel to the fire.
