“If it is not the governor’s wife herself, who else would it be!?” Mrs. Okafor hailed when she got to where her friend was, giving orders here and there. The woman turned and smiled at her. One would say the governor’s wife is short if her height was compared to that of Mrs. Okafor. Mrs. Okafor was a rather tall woman, with her 5 feet, 48 inch height. While the governor’s wife was 5 feet and 10 inch tall.
The two women exchanged hugs. “It has been a while! How are you doing?” Her Excellency, Olashile Adewale said.
“Of course it has been a while! It is not every time one gets to see the governor’s wife you know”. Mrs. Okafor said. Then the two began to discuss walking away from the kitchen area.
“Thank you for inviting me”. Mrs. Okafor said. Olashile Adewale smiled and told her she was welcomed. Then she went on to tell Mrs. Okafor that she hoped Kehinde would even come, she didn’t tell him they were celebrating his birthday. She only got Temitope to get him to come over, but Kehinde was like a wind that cannot be predicted.
“That’s how they are! Kids of these generation”. Mrs. Okafor said. Olashile told her that they were no longer kids. They are adults as well, just that their generation is different, and they of the other generation have no other option but to try and adjust to fit in with this new generation.
“Yes, that reminds me! You didn’t invite me for your daughter’s engagement”. Mrs. Okafor said. She was talking about Temitope’s engagement.
Olashile sighed. Then she shook her head. “I wanted her to marry a Nigerian man, but her stay in the US has so gotten into her brain, that she had to bring home oyibo. How do you people even call it in Igbo!?” Olashile said.
“You’ve said it all yourself, it is oyibo”. Mrs. Okafor replied. Then they both laughed.
“I am looking for a suitable Nigerian girl for Kehinde. He needs to settle down and stop carrying all these ashawo (sex workers) up and down”. Olashile said.
Mrs. Okafor asked her if Kehinde had not bring any girl to her. Olashile told her Kehinde never brings any girl home. She does not expect him to because of his lifestyle when it comes to women.
“I just wish you still have a daughter that is yet to be married”. Olashile said.
At that moment Mrs. Okafor’s brain began to work like a computer on high browsing speed. She had done some mathematics in her head already.
“If I can convince her and make her accept Ify for a daughter in-law, that means, Kehinde will have to let go of Lanre. I really like that girl, I want her to be my daughter in-law. And I trust my son Gozie! He will take good care of her”. Mrs. Okafor said in her head. Then she turned to her friend with a beautiful smile.
“What are you saying my First Lady? I have a beautiful niece that just finished her final exams in the University of Nigeria Nsukka. And she’s very intelligent, smart. In addition to this, she is well cultured”. Mrs. Okafor said.
