The Uber Guy Is Cute

“She’s here!” Anita said running out of the house to go welcome Lanre as though they have been the best of friends and had not seen each other for a very long time. She looked so excited seeing Lanre. She helped Lanre with her luggage while practically dragging her along into the house.

“You guys now live in Lagos or what?” Lanre asked when they got inside. Anita told her she had accompanied her husband over to Lagos for business. And they already stayed one week in Lagos. They were left with one more week. Lanre nods her head. Then she asked Anita if her husband was around or he has gone out.

“He went for a business meeting. I was already feeling bored you know. Like it’s been boring since I came to Lagos. And I thought Lanre would be the best person to spend time with”. Anita said. Lanre made an “oh”. Just then Tega walked in and asked if he should leave now or she needed him to get her anything.

“No, I don’t need anything. Take this money”. She said giving him some cash. She told him to come pick her up on Sunday evening. He thanked her and left.

“The Uber guy is cute?” Anita said. Lanre frowned asking Anita what Uber guy. Anita told her the one that brought her here.

“Oh! You mean Tega! He is kinda of like my driver. I need him since I can’t drive”. Lanre said to Anita. This took Anita by surprise. She asked Lanre if she meant the car in which she rode in was her car.

“It’s a convocation gift from a friend. He could not attend and decided to gift me that. So…….” Lanre said shrugging with her arms open in a way that say’s, “na so we see am o (that’s how it is)”.

Anita suddenly realised she was yet to offer Lanre anything. She apologised and asked Lanre what she would like to drink. Lanre told her cold water would do if it was available.

“Of course it is available”. Anita said walking towards the kitchen. A smile hugged her face. This was her plan A. She never imagined things would be this easy. She actually thought Ify’s presence would make things difficult. But Ify suddenly decided she would go shopping for her wedding this weekend and left for Dubai already. She took cold orange juice from the fridge instead of water. She took a glass with her, placing it on a tray and took it to Lanre. Lanre asked her if there was no water. She would rather have water than orange juice. Instead of orange juice, she would prefer she is given chi exotic nectar to drink.

“I thought orange juice would be better, so I got brought it instead. Besides whi gives water to their guest when there is juice?” Anita said. Lanre told her she was not a fan of orange juice and would prefer water. But if she wants to welcome her in a better way, she could at least bring wine out.
