Lanre met with Christian and the lawyer at a restaurant later in the evening of that same day. She got to speak with the Lawyer and then gave him his first job. He would have to prepare a contract for her brother to sign. She told him what it was about. And so the lawyer would do as she said. He told her to leave the job for him. He would also be the one to meet with her brother on her behalf.
“Whoa! You want your brother to sign a contract? What exactly happened between you two?” Christian asked Lanre after the lawyer was gone. Lanre told him plainly that he almost killed her.
Christian was taking aback. He asked her when. She smirked as the thought of what happened that day came to her mind. She told him it was in the past and it was not something she would love to talk about.
“How past is it in the past?” Christian asked. Lanre puts her head down. She held her breath wondering if she should talk about this.
“Chris, it is not something I want to talk about”. Lanre said. The expression on her face was enough to convince Christian that Lanre really did not want to talk about it. He took a sip of wine from the glass before him before telling her it was okay if she really does not want to talk about it. Lanre suddenly felt bad. To her it was as though Christian has been doing so much for her, yet she was keeping things from him. But the part of her that does not want to talk about what happened seemed more pronounced.
They stayed in the restaurant for a little more while talking about random things and seemingly unrelated things. Christian offered to drive her home. She burst out laughing.
“I now have a car, remember? There’s no need driving me to my place anymore”. Lanre said to him. Christian told her he wanted to.
“Since you are not the one driving yourself, it is no difference if I drive you in my car to your place”. Christian said to her. She gave him a smile. Not wanting to make it a prolonged issue, she accepted his offer. She got into Christian’s car, while Tega was made to drive the car to his place.
“You let him take your car with him?” Christian asked. He looked baffled. Lanre asked him if there was anything wrong with that. He told her everything was wrong with it. He asked her if the driver should go away with her car and she never gets to see him or the car again, what would she do?
“He won’t do that! Tega is a honest man. He is a hustler, not a fraud nor a thief”. Lanre said.
“Oh! You talk like you know him too well”. Christian said to her. Lanre sighed. She asked Christian to focus on his driving and that he was losing concentration.
