Between The Two Of You

After leaving Ify in his house hoping she would leave on his instruction, K went to meet with his father. He had gone to meet the Governor with an excuse that it was for an official reason and that it was urgent. His father did agree to see him, but as a Governor meeting a citizen for official reasons. And this reason was built upon the contract K was given.

“Good day Your Excellency!”. K saluted. The Governor’s secretary offered him a sit. K smiled at his father even before words could leave his mouth. The man noticed K’s eye’s movement. He asked the secretary to leave them.

“I told your wife that I wanted to see you. Did she not inform you of this?” K asked his father. The man cleared his throat and straightened his back. He asked K if his request has been for long. K shook his head indicating it has not been for long.

“But it is long enough for you to have called your son”. K said. The Governor told him that he only discuss official matters in his office.

“Then I guess topics on how to steal public funds and embezzle money from different sectors is a very important official matter since you make such decisions here”. K said to his father.

“Kehinde Adewale!” The father called giving him a warning look.

“What? Did I touch your dark spot?” K asked.

The father shook his head regrettably. Then he asked K what he had actually come for.

“I love to finish what I started, but this time I intend to opt out. I’m here to talk to you both as my father and as my Governor. I would like you to award the contract to someone else. I have a suitable candidate. And since he is an ordinary citizen, people will sing odes to you. And as my father, I am here to tell you that I want to get married and leave this country with my wife”. K said.

“I told you to leave that girl alone Kehinde. I know you have been keeping her in Eko hotel. I have allowed you enough freedom, now leave her alone”. The Governor said to his son.

“Why? I cannot leave her, not especially now that she is carrying my child”. K said.

“So will you also marry that Igbo girl, Ify? She is also carrying your child”. Governor Adewale said to K.

“She is not f**king pregnant. And even if she is, it is not for me and was never for me. Ify was just fooling you guys so that mom will let her into the family”. K said his father.

The father looked at him in shock. He was not expecting to hear that, nor did he ever thought that it was not true Ify was actually pregnant. K never denied.

“Between the two of you, who lied to me?” Governor Adewale asked his son. K told him to relax.

“Her lie came in handy. I did not see a reason to deny when I could use it to save her life”. K said to his father.
