Laughing At Your Ignorance

K got to take Lanre out of the hospital. He wanted to take her to his house, but Lanre refused. She told him she was fine and would be more comfortable at her own place. So K took her to her apartment. He yet again spent the entire day with her.

When Eno returned from school, she was happy to see that Lanre was okay. She was glad their were no sad faces, it only means the fall Lanre had did not affect the baby in the womb.

As for Lanre she decided to keep to herself, mentally separating herself. She’s able to calculate things and she also knows how far gone her pregnancy was, so why was it difficult for her to accept that they had left that month for a long time her. The more she tried to convince herself what month they were in, the more a voice in her head keeps getting her confused.

“No! We are in June! June! June! June!” The voice would scream in her head. Lanre decided to wave it off. If she daily acknowledge what month it is, then her mind will accept it and she would move on.

…………………………………………….

Two days after the incident, Lanre was set to leave for Abuja. She would have to be at the airport at Ikeja before 9 am so that she don’t get to miss her flight. The case was being handled by the Abuja police, so when it was taken to court, they had to do everything there. Otherwise, Lanre herself would have preferred to stay at home. But she was the first witness for her mom. She was the one who received the video first and Mrs. Okafor’s threat.

“Eno! Please hurry up! I have a flight to catch”. Lanre said. Eno who was busy trying to complete an assignment she could not finish the previous day had to just hurry and put everything in her bag. She got into the car.

“Uncle Tega minghow (I’m on my knees *A way of greeting in urhobo used by people to greet those older than them*)”. Lanre looked at Eno asking her when she started learning urhobo language.

“Aunty Lanre, who does not know that minghow is a greeting in urhobo? I don’t need to learn the language to know that one. Just like everyone knows the meaning of “wazobia” is come in the three major Nigeria language fused together”. Eno said to Lanre. Tega laughed.

These two were always at loggerheads if they are not having a normal discussion or in silence. Having a similar personality, they tend to always have a clash.

“See, uncle Tega is laughing at your ignorance”. Eno said.

“No he is not! Have sense sometimes Eno!” Lanre said.

“They say I’m no different from you”. Eno said. Lanre bit her lip. Did Eno just indirectly tell her she does not have sense?

“Good morning ma’am! How was your night?” Tega cuts in wanting to distract Lanre so she does not get to mind Eno any further.
