COME TO LA

Ethan paced his large office. He couldn't believe that one day, his leadership would be attributed to his marital status. Who finds a woman in a month or two and falls completely in love with them, enough to know that they wanted to be together? Ever since his mom's visit to his house, he has been restless. Finding a woman to marry was not easy like going to a bar, restaurant or wherever you could find women, call one up.

'Hey, I want us to get married'

They would probably look at you like, you've gone crazy. He knew his mother, she was still going to bug him with it. She would come over to his house if he refused to answer his calls. She would keep reminding him of the promise he made about getting a woman. He just needed to be free from all that, he needed to be free from seeing his mom everyday and she always reminding him that he has an obligation to fulfil.

His phone started to ring and he glanced at the phone on the table, it was his friend Axel. He grabbed the phone from the table and slid to the green icon.

       "Hey, buddy, what's up?"

       "Hey, Ethan. I'm good, you?"

       "Not so great."

      "Why, what's the problem?"

"I'm faced with loosing this company and getting married."

       "Getting married?"

"Story of my life---I have to be married in three months to keep the company."

        "What?"

"That was what my dad wanted and my mom is on my neck."

"I think you need to take a break from her then. Come over here."

Ethan heatitated for a moment. "Err…thats a nice suggestion though, but you want me to come over to Los Angeles?"

       "Of course."

"I can't go to your house since you and Camelia stay together."

"I'm sure Camie won't mind at all."

       "But, I mind."

"Ethan, it's just a suggestion. I'm not imposing you to come over. Dude, I could feel your stress from here, it's all over your voice. I'm just saying, you should think of it as a vacation from work, leave home, come to LA for maybe a month, where no one would find you, who knows, you might even find the love you're looking for."

"I'm not looking for love, I'm looking for a wife."

"Love, wife, what difference does it make? You have to find a woman you like at least to make her your wife."

"You're right about leaving home. I'll come over there, but I want you to help me get my own apartment. I don't want a hotel, I just want my privacy."

"You've got nothing to worry about. I will get you the best deluxe apartment here..."

"No, no, no, I wouldn't want that. I just need a moderate apartment, you know, something I can live in."

"Why? You are a multi billionaire, you should live your best life."

"I'm on a mission. I just want a moderate house in a good neighbourhood."

"As you wish then," Axel said and Ethan imagined him bowing.

Ethan and Axel have been best friends from cradle, they grew up together, but Axel's life took another turn when his both parents died in an automobile accident and he had to go stay with his uncle in Los Angeles. Ethan felt like he lost a vital part of him when Axel left San Francisco and at first, their communication had been constant, Axel would call everyday and talk about the things that were going on in LA, Ethan on his own part would fill him in on what was going on at home.

But with time, their communication became sparse, once in a month, once in two weeks and as time passed it became even more difficult as they both found other interests, but the friendship didn't die down completely and got revived again when Axel came home three years ago. They had re-exchanged contracts and started talking again and Axel had introduced his girlfriend Camelia to him and at times, they three of them FaceTime.

Ethan, found it as a way to connect back to his old friend. He was suddenly super excited about the suggestion Axel had brought. He would stealthily leave San Francisco to LA and rest from his mother for a while.
