She woke up the next morning in her bed. The room was so bright when she opened her eyes and she had to shade her eyes from the rays of the morning sun or whatever sun it was penetrating into her room. She wondered how she got into her bed, because she couldn't remember driving back home, couldn't remember taking off her clothes and couldn't remember hitting her bed. Her curtains were not even drawn and she had slept that way, she dreaded leaving the curtains open at night because she still believed and was scared of ghosts. It felt like she had not eaten for years, and she slowly climbed out of bed, her clothes were scattered on the floor, she stepped on them and strode towards the door. Her phone beeped and she went back to pick it from the nightstand and sat back on the bed.
Nora had given her a hundred and twenty missed calls and countless text messages. She opened the first one that read. 'Faith, Danny and I are thrilled that you're finally coming to LA! Please don't forget to call and let us know what flight you will be on, so we can pick you up at the airport.'
"No, no, no, what have I done?" she muttered and dialed Nora.
Nora answered immediately. "You don't want to answer my calls?"
"Nora...I..."
"What now? I'm so mad at you right now!" Nora was speaking loudly and Faith knew that whenever she spoke that way, she was really pissed. "You always jeopardise my efforts of showing care towards you! After sending me that text that you were coming over here, then you go ghostmode on me?"
"Nora, I'm sorry..."
"Sorry for yourself! I don't know if you're living your life for me, it's like I'm begging you to stay alive."
"I'm sorry...I don't know what came over me, I can't even remember sending you that text. I met Noah yesterday with another woman and...and..." her words trailed off as tears choked her throat and ran down her cheeks.
There was silence at the other end and Faith could only hear Nora's breathing. "That's why I said you should come over here and start up your life. You'll keep seeing Noah in San Francisco and you'll keep getting hurt." Nora's voice was calmer now.
"But, Nora, I have built my life around here, my clients are here, I'm used to this place."
"I know honey, that is why Danny and I are here for you. You can stay with us until you find your footings again."
"I don't wanna intrude."
"Who said you're going to be intruding? The house is big enough for six people."
Thinking of how she felt last night, she considered Nora's offer. Besides she needed to be shown a lot of love in her life right now, she needed a shoulder to cry on and certainly needed a break from telling other people what to do to make their relationships work while her's was a sorry sight. But, she also thought about the people she was going to leave behind. Shelby was a good assistant and she might never find another person like her anymore and she didn't want to put Shelby out of job. If she was going to leave here, she would have to talk to Shelby about it first.
She exhaled heavily. "If I would ever come over there, I want to get my own apartment. Look, Nora, I really appreciate what you are doing for me and how you look out for me, but I don't wanna be a liability to you or Danny, I hope you understand."
"Certainly, as you wish." There was a tingle of excitement in Nora's voice. She was glad that Faith was considering the offer.
"I just have to talk to Shelby first."
"Of course, you should."
"Bye, Nora."
"Bye, Faith. Don't drink again and make sure you always answer my calls."
"I wil l," Faith said with a smile and hung up.
