IT'S OVER

As she entered the apartment, she started to take off her clothes, totally forgetting that she had locked the door before leaving for work and that it was open now. She didn't notice the presence of another person until she went into the room. There was Noah, in the same t-shirt and jeans he wore the previous night. His cloth box was on the bed and his clothes were scattered all over the bed.

“Noah, “ Faith called with surprise.

“Hey, “ Noah said and continued what he was doing.

Faith went closer to the bed and stood at the edge.

“Noah, I called through out last night, “ she said trying to keep her voice steady.

“I was busy, “ came the reply.

“Noah, I understand how you feel.“ Faith dropped her laptop and jacket on the bed and moved to Noah.   “I promise to be everything you want me to be. We can be together. Can't you see we are good for each other? We look good together. “

Faith moved closer and wrapped her arms around his neck, nudging him to look at her. Noah was trying to avoid her eyes. When she finally got him to look at her, she said.

“Come on, lets go back to the way we used to be.“

For a moment, he couldn't say anything at all. He opened his mouth twice, then closed it again. She waited patiently for him to get whatever it was he wanted to say out. Finally, with a stiffness that vibrated the air between them, he said,   “It's a little late to be considering that right now. “

             “What? Why?"

"Faith, I'm sorry but we can't work anymore. It's over. I'm sorry for...“

Faith was already gripping the bed board, trying to steady herself.  "Is there someone else?"

          “What?"

"Is there someone else?!" Faith felt her voice getting a little higher.

“It doesn't matter, Faith. I just don't feel this relationship anymore. I'm sorry.“  That said, he quickly put his other clothes into his box, zipped it up and carried it down from the bed.

"Noah, you can't do this to me. We are engaged!"

“That was because you wanted it.“ Noah put the box down and went over to her, held her shoulders and looked her in the eyes.  “Listen, Faith, you are a beautiful woman, you're smart, sophisticated and you are very hygienic, you would find someone who deserves and appreciate all of that..."

        "Why not you?" Faith cried.

Noah moved away despite her cry. She held his hands but he broke away, took his box and went away the second time. She suddenly felt her stomach on fire, she managed to get to the medicine chest by the hallway and took two huge gulps from the bottle of Maalox Liquid to quench the fire. She went over to the living room, grabbed a bottle of alcohol from the little wine cellar, grabbed a wine glass and went back to the room.

She stepped over the clothes on the floor and fell into bed. The tears were running down all the while. She opened the wine, poured a glass full and gulped down almost everything in the glass. It hurt her stomach but her heart hurt more.
