(Sage's POV)
I noticed that they stopped and began to laugh, and I wondered what was so funny, I didn't see our fears as something so hysterical.
The knight who held the tray placed it on the ground and they both slowly took off the helmets which covered their faces and our jaws dropped.
"Thank Goodness!" I exclaimed.
"What took you so long?" The Princess sighed in relief as she sat back on the bed holding onto her chest.
"The plan didn't work out how I wanted it to, it turned out both of you were taken out of the tent before we got there," Adriel responded and the Princess and I found it laughable.
"We were there, we saw you come in and leave and we couldn't do anything, it was all in the spell that old lady cast," I explained and turned to Allesio who averted his gaze from me with a smirk.
" We need to find a way to get you out of here and now before anyone realizes," Adriel said as he scanned the arena looking for a way out.
"Aside from the door, the only way out is through the window up there, " I pointed at and Adriel shook his head.
" This is a prison, how do they expect you to breathe in here? " He scoffed.
Just as he was speaking, we heard the door getting unlocked from outside and we were alarmed, the room was empty so there was no place to hide, and the space under the bed was narrow so only a rat could fit in.
But Adriel and Allesio wasted no time, they dashed into the bathroom and I was still afraid because the bathroom was empty, there was nothing they could hide with.
The entrance door opened just as they closed the bathroom door.
"Where are they?" The leader of the knight asked in a fit of rage as he barged in.
" Who sir," I asked and tried hard not to show my fear.
"Don't you try to play tricks on me, where are those two knights who constantly covered their faces with helmets? " He yelled and grabbed my arm. He pressed them tightly and stared into my eyes and my whole body shook in horror.
"Don't tell me, I'll find them," he suddenly left me. He grabbed the Princess and held a knife across her throat.
"Are you going to tell me where they are now?" He asked again and took the knife close to her throat. I gasped but the Princess shook her head from side to side.
"I swear we haven't seen them,'' I lied again but the fear was noticeable in my voice.
"The both of you think I am here to play games right? This is like child's play to you, isn't it? " He threw the princess to the ground.
" Those fools thought that I would never find out. Who wears a helmet into the palace, I knew it was suspicious, the mistake they made was to knock the servants who were asked to give you food unconscious and threw her into my chamber," as he ranted, he walked towards the bathroom.
He stopped before he held the doorknob, and turned around to see the expression on our faces. It was difficult to hide how nervous we were so he took it as a guess that something or someone was in there.
"Don't go in there!" I exclaimed out of fear.
"Oh why, is there something you don't want me to see?" He asked and I replied briskly,
" Yes, I uhm-
" Had her monthly lady's business," the Princess took words out of my mouth and my jaws dropped in shock.
"Yes yes I did, and you know it is forbidden to go into the bathroom after a female just had her business, you could be struck to death." The Princess had brought up the best lie because it was a belief in most kingdoms so I hoped that Tersian had the same belief.
"The both of you don't know how terrible you are at lying-
" If you don't believe us then go in, the gods will strike you to death and you would wish you had listened to us, think of it, if those knights are in there, don't you think they'll be dead already," the Princess spoke from behind and that was the first time that the princess showed her bravery.
"I believe the gods will understand that I am only trying to protect my kingdom from intruders," he said and was about to open the door.
" Well maybe the gods will realize that you have wrongly imprisoned a Princess and her handmaid," I told him and he froze up.
" What do you mean? " He asked me and left the door.
" I don't know anything, but just know that if you are making the wrong choice it may be the end of your life and someone else will take your place," how I said those words looked like they got him scared.
"Listen to me, you are under my care, under my right, you are in no way above me whatsoever, you have no right to speak to me any way you want to and you also don't have the right to poke your nose into my business is that clear?" He yelled at me but I did not act intimidated.
"You think you are smart huh?" He came closer and grabbed my arm again.
" What do you know?"
"As I said, it's wrong to imprison a princess and her handmaid wrongly, if you feel like what I said is false then you can go in confidently and be assured that nothing will happen to you," I replied and he left.
He was afraid to open the door because each time he placed his hand on the doorknob, he took it off again as he contemplated whether to go in or not.
He took a deep breath and opened the door eventually, I covered my lips with my hands so that I would not gasp out loud.
