CHAPTER 31 She is Mine

  "I should go home," Annie said after a while.

  "You are kidding, right? I am not sending you back there," I said gruffly.

  "But I can't stay here either!" she adjusted her glasses. "She won't hurt me again. She was just in a bad mood."

  "You can't be seriously defending that bitch?" I was dumbfounded. How much more was she going to endure?

  "I just...that's my house. I have nowhere else to go, and I don't want her to kick me out," she said.

  I sighed. I knew she was right. We were just teenagers, so I couldn't even make her stay with me without talking to my mom first.

  "Okay, fine. But stay with me a little longer. Please?" I insisted. I wanted to keep her away from her cruel mother as long as possible, even though I knew I had to let her go eventually. I made a mental note to talk to my mother about it. There must be something I could do for her. What if she ends up getting hurt more?
