CHAPTER 40 Be a Friend

  Evan

My head felt like a mess. I can't seem to think straight anymore when it comes to Annie.

I promised myself I'd behave and let her live her life the way she wanted, but I still went and messed up her date with Mike.

  Stupid, stupid, Evan.

She will move farther and farther away from me if I keep pushing her. I knew it, but at the same time, I couldn't control my jealousy. Maybe because Mike is my best friend, it bothered me to see her with him way more than it should have.

The look on her face at the end of the dinner told me everything I needed to know. Annie did not like me and would rather be with Mike.

  This hurt.

I decided to leave before them because I couldn't watch her walk away with Mike.

But as soon as I heard a car outside, I couldn't help but look out the window, thinking it was him.

Sure enough, it was Mike's car parked in Annie's driveway. Well, at least he brought her back home safely.
