Who broke up first?

Pei Xingcheng was sitting alone in the room, looking everywhere to search for the ghost he had seen earlier. His body and mind were still on high alert, afraid that the ghost might jump out to scare him all of a sudden. But, she was nowhere to be seen. It was as if the situation earlier was just an illusion.

Maybe, it was a part of his imagination. Maybe, the ghost really didn't exist, he thought.

He was to check it out. Taking a deep breath, he called out for her. "Yoohoo... Miss Ghost, where are you? Are you hiding somewhere?"

No answer.

"So you really don't exist, right?" he murmured in a small voice.

No answer.

Feeling the serene silence around him, Pei Xingcheng smiled in relief and patted his heart. So, that was really his imagination. That beautiful ghost doesn't exist. He looked around the room for one last time and closed his eyes.

He thought he would feel happy to know that it was just his imagination, but for some reason, his heart ached at the thought that he would never be able to see that beautiful ghost again.

When Pei Xingcheng realized this thought, he frowned slightly.

Wait! Was he missing an imaginary ghost? Certainly not, right?

Just when he was about to delve deeper into this weird feeling, the door opened. He opened his eyes and took a look at the couple who entered his room and groaned unhappily. "Why is it you two? And where is my brother?" he asked.

Ye Qingze sat down on the nearby sofa while Nan Zhizhi walked towards the bed and took the small chair. "Brother Pei is talking to the police and informing them about your situation."

"Okay," Pei Xingcheng nodded and sat straight on the bed. He blinked his long lashes and looked at her intensely. He was about to grab her hand, but then thinking that she wasn't his girlfriend anymore but someone else's wife, he refrained from doing so.

"Zhizhi, I need to ask you something important," he began. "This information is very important to me. You think of it as if my life is dependent on this question," he said.

Nan Zhizhi frowned slightly.

He looked into her eyes seriously. "You have to be very honest with me, okay? You can't lie to me."

Nan Zhizhi nodded and motioned for him to continue, but her heart was slightly worried.

What exactly does Pei Xingcheng want to know? Is it about what happened in those past three years? Or is it about her? If he asked something about her, what will she say? The doctor has clearly warned them to inform him as little as possible. They shouldn't burden his mind with all those things he doesn't remember.

"What do you want to know, Xingcheng?" she asked cautiously.

"Zhizhi, who broke up first?"

Nan Zhizhi: "......." (Is this the most important thing he wants to know?)

"Are you serious, Xingcheng?" she asked, looking at him as if he was an idiot.

"What? I need to know. It's important."

"Really?"

"Yes!" he nodded his head frantically, but then it began to hurt so he stopped. "Look, it's very important for me to know who broke up with whom? And, please tell me that it was me who broke up with you and not the other way around. Please! Please! Please!"

Nan Zhizhi: "...." (This childish man.... he's never going to change.....)

"I broke up with you," she confessed

Pei Xingcheng was shocked. "You sure?"

"Ofcourse!"

"Why did we break up? Did I do something wrong? Did I hurt you or something?" he asked seriously.

Though he might not remember what happened in the last three years, but he knew himself extremely well. He was a hardcore playboy, changing girls one after the other but Nan Zhizhi was his best friend and the only girl he ever liked truly. If she broke up with him first, then it meant that he must have done something to hurt her.

"No," she shook her head. "You didn't."

Immediately, Pei Xingcheng breathed a sigh of relief.

"It was just that things didn't work out between us. You respected me, and you liked me but you didn't love me, Xingcheng, and neither did I. We both wanted different things from our lives. I wanted a love that would consume me, a person that could make my heart flutter and you were too focused on other things."

"You had your dreams, your family issues, and your strained relationship with your step-mom..."

Pei Xingcheng moved his hand through his hair and released a tired sigh. "I understand."

Nan Zhizhi held his hand, smiling.

"Is that the reason why you chose him?" he asked while pointing toward Ye Qingze. Without waiting for her to answer, he looked at Ye Qingze and snorted coldly. "C'mon, Zhizhi, you know you could have done better than him...."

Suddenly, another voice interjected in between. "I am not deaf. I can hear you."

Pei Xingcheng glared at Ye Qingze and sneered. "It was meant for you to hear."

Ye Qingze looked up from his phone and smiled. "You know, you were slightly less annoying before your accident."

"Humph! But you are still as annoying as before."

"Thank you for the praise."

Pei Xingcheng hissed through gritted teeth. "I wasn't praising you."

"Yeah, whatever, whatever." Ye Qingze laughed.

"Argh!!! Talking to you is useless," Pei Xingcheng snorted, crossed his arm over his chest, and decided to ignore this guy. Then he looked at Nan Zhizhi and mocked. "And, you say we were friends... Are you sure you are not lying to me and taking advantage of my amnesia? Just look at this arrogant, brainless guy. From which angle does he look like my friend?"

"Oh please! Friends with you? I am not that crazy." Ye Qingze mocked back. "You know what, maybe, we should call the doctor to re-scan your head. It seems like you must have lost your mind in this accident."

"Qingze!!!" Nan Zhizhi glared at her husband.

"What? He started first," Ye Qingze pointed out.

"You!!! You!!! You!!!" he pointed at the cunning man, angrily and glared at him hatefully.

Irritated, Nan Zhizhi pressed her temples and stared at the two men who were fighting like kids. The corner of her mouth twisted in anger.

"OKAY, THAT'S ENOUGH!!!!," she shouted at the top of her voice.
