“Deary, you managed to resist the order of an elder fae.” Gladys propped her chin in her hand and pinned Siana with a frank look. “There are very few beings that can resist the command of an elder fae and they are all very magical indeed. Do you know who your father was?”

“I don’t see where that’s any of your business.” Siana shot back, lifting her head to glare across the room.

“I’ll take that as a no.” Gladys replied evenly, meeting Siana’s ire blandly. “Chances are he was a one-night stand and he wasn’t entirely human.”

“Mom met him at a bar.” Siana’s ire deflated like a balloon with a hole in it. “She never saw him again after that night.”

“Ooh, it’s so exciting,” Rana almost squealed the words. “I can’t wait to see what you can do, especially since you can resist elder fae. We haven’t had anyone who could do that in at least two hundred years.”

“Two hundred-“ Siana looked over at Rana with wide eyes. “How old are you?”
