Dexter got back into the café, shuddering at the thought that he could be killed by just one decision. Indeed, the decision was a fatal one.
Connor kept his eyes on Dexter and frowned when he saw him trembling and looking that scared. He knew Dexter was a strong and powerful guy, but he was indeed the most scared and shy person he had ever met.
Connor raised his eyebrow while asking: "What happened out there? And who was that man?"
Dexter looked up at Connor who was waiting for an answer.... a good one. Dexter sighed and said: "He is a friend of mine... He came here to tell me something."
Connor bit his lower lip and said: "You think I was born yesterday? Something is up. Just look at you! You're all scared and trembling! Go into the staff's room until any customer notices you!"
Connor went and called two of their colleagues to take their place for some minutes and they went in another room to talk. They both sat down on two random chairs they found there.
"In the name of God, tell me who that person is! I know you and I'm sure you're not capable to make friends with such threatening looks!" Connor complained.
Dexter closed his eyes and then opened them again. He sighed and spoke: "There's nothing to worry about. I was trembling like that because it's pretty cold outside."
Connor spoke quickly: "Let's say that I believe you... even though I don't, but from where were you so scared?"
Dexter tried: "I'm sorry if it looked like that. I have a lot on my mind lately and my schedule it's pretty busy. I'm very tired and I'm trying to finish everything."
Connor frowned: "What does your busy schedule have to do with the fact that earlier you were more scared than a cat that just saw a pack of dogs?"
Dexter replied: "You know me enough to get the fact that I'm usually very scared when something goes wrong."
Connor nodded in agreement. He knew that Dexter was scared when something went wrong or when something was out of its place. In any case, he was still suspicious of that guy.
They ended up the conversation, but Connor still didn't believe Dexter completely. They went back to work and finished their shift around 6 p.m. It was already evening because it was the end of winter, but it was still cold outside.
Connor offered to drop Dexter home, but he refused. He wanted to walk home, but a strong hand got him by his coat.
He turned around to see no one else than Lynn staying behind him. He was looking at him with that threatening look of his.
Dexter just stopped walking and glanced at Lynn. When he finally decided to speak, he asked: "Where do you think you're going?"
Dexter's eyes widened and told him: "I-I'm going home... Why?"
"Have you forgotten that I needed to come to you after your shift finishes? Am I talking to the walls?" Lynn started screaming. "If you take all of this as a joke then don't expect yourself to walk the next day!" he continued.
Dexter was blinking rapidly and didn't understand why Lynn was so interested in meeting his boss.
He looked at the ground and then up at Lynn. "I'm sorry." he simply said and looked in Lynn's eyes.
Lynn took him by his hand and dragged Dexter after him. He asked what was he doing but Lynn didn't say a word.
After they passed by the café, going back to Lynn's car, he spoke: "It doesn't matter if you want to or not, you have to come. I also think you'd rather live than die. Be careful what you say and how you act."
He tossed Dexter into the back seat and Lynn got in the front then locked all the car doors. Dexter was scared and didn't know what was about to happen to him.
The weird fact and thought that came into Dexter's mind was that he preferred to be left alone for hours in the car than getting tortured by any of these two.
He didn't try to scream for help because he knew it was useless, instead, he shrunk into a corner of the chair and struggled not to stifle his sobs.
Lynn looked behind in the mirror and saw Dexter, but he couldn't do anything about him. He knew what his boss was capable of if he didn't accomplish his mission, so he preferred Dexter to endure the torture rather than be killed. At least, that's what Lynn will do if he was in Dexter's shoes, but he wasn't.
It seemed to Dexter that the drive took hours, but after quite some time in the car, Lynn pulled up in front of a building. It was even scarier because it was night, rather than the middle of the day when it was at least light.
Lynn got down and came in the back to take Dexter, but he just didn't want to go out.
Lynn got mad and dragged Dexter with all the force he had until he fell out of the car. Lynn helped Dexter get up and then dragged him into the building.
If he was able to, Dexter would just sit quietly in a corner and cry. He was scared to death and he didn't know what will happen. Being in a room with two monsters and no one to help him.
Before entering his boss's office, Lynn had to deal again with the two bodyguards who stood in front of the door.
They scanned Lynn from head to toe and seemed to recognize him, but then they had their eyes on Dexter who tried not to cry. They raised their eyebrows and asked: "Who's this little guy?"
Lynn answered: "He's with me. Let me in or I'll do what I said the last time we met." The bodyguards looked at each other and then they let Lynn and Dexter enter.
Dexter looked up at Lynn who seemed to be very serious, and then looked in front of him. It was a man, maybe a little older than Lynn, with short brown hair which was elegantly arranged and an ocean-blue suit.
He was reading some papers but when the two entered the door, he raised his creepy look and glanced at them.
He scanned Dexter and then said: "I suppose he's the one I sent you after. Am I wrong?"
Lynn was still holding tight to Dexter's hand and said: "Yes. What are you planning to do?"
His boss got up and approached Dexter. He took his chin with his hand and raised his head so he could see better.
He then spoke: "I don't know. That's none of your business anyways, is it?"
His boss got out two strings and bound Dexter as hard as he could by the hands and feet. He took Dexter and slammed him down to a chair that was in a corner of the room.
His boss went back to his desk, took a photo, and showed it to Lynn. It was a man who wasn't older than 40 and whose looks were approaching his boss's looks.
Lynn asked his boss what was up with him and he said: "I want this man to be a killer. If you fail it won't end well for you."
Lynn raised his eyebrow: "Why do I need to kill some random men now?"
"Don't fucking comment" he interrupted Lynn. "The organization has been looking for him for a quite long time, but no one has been able to catch him. I want you to kill him because I know you'd do anything just to see the sun again the next day."
Lynn looked again at the photo and spoke: "I understand, sir."
He knew that his boss wanted to do something to Dexter, but he wanted to get rid of Lynn.
He turned around, ready to leave the office, when Dexter screamed: "Don't leave me here! Please!"
Lynn turned around, he looked at Dexter with the same indifferent look.
"Don't disappoint me." his boss said while leaning against the desk. "I won't, sir." Lynn answered.
Lynn whispered before leaving: "Endure it..." and he then left the office, letting Dexter alone with his boss.
Dexter screamed again after Lynn but he didn't turn back. It was all over for him. The only thing he could do now is to pray that nothing very bad will happen to him.
