The unknown number

After he dropped Dexter off at the café, Lynn headed to the headquarter to meet with his boss, his bodyguard, and the other members at an important meeting.

He parked the car in front of the headquarter and as he got out, he took his sunglasses and put them on. It was sunny and warm outside and he thought of spending the day on a walk after the meeting.

He entered the headquarter and went to the woman from reception. Louis's headquarter was some kind of a building with offices and information about the city. It was a good business for him and he got out with so much money out of it.

"Where's Louis Meyer? I want the number of the room if possible." Lynn said in a cold tone.

"Sure, sir. For the meeting?" the woman asked while looking at her computer.

Lynn nodded as he raised his eyebrow. "All right, your name please."

"Lynn Alford." he answered coldly without any sign of expression.

"Mhm... Louis Meyer is the one that arranged the meeting... Room 126, fifth floor, sir." she answered him.

On her computer appeared a list with the names of the people that needed to be there for the meeting. She saw Lynn's name and she let him go.

Lynn took the lift to the fifth floor and went into the hallway to search for room 126. He knocked slowly at the door while taking his sunglasses off.

He entered the room and saw his boss at the head of the table, while his bodyguard was next to him, on the right. In the rest of the seats were some more people from the organization. Lynn didn't know many of them.

"You're late." his boss complained.

"I know, boss. I'm sorry for the waiting. I had something to solve before coming and it took me more than I thought."

He made Lynn a sign with his hand to sit down. He sat down next to his bodyguard and listened to Louis's speech.

Louis crossed his hands while leaning on the back of the chair. "All right, I gathered you all here for some news. Someone is after us, after the organization... And one of you all from here is the traitor."

Everyone gasped and started whispering. Louis continued: "Silence, please. I've noticed some missions went completely wrong in the last few weeks and I'm not thanked for that. I'm disappointed. I know the traitor wouldn't admit that he did what he did, but that's not a problem. As the boss of this organization, I won't tolerate such a thing happening."

He got up and slowly started walking around the table with his hands at the back and with his cold and serious face.

"I want this time to point out whom the traitor is by giving you a mission." he got out from a drawer some photos. Behind him was a big whiteboard where he placed the photos for everyone to see them.

The photos were made somewhere like 5 years ago, and they were showing the faces of three young men with short and medium hair, one black-haired, one blonde, and the last one brunette.

He pointed his finger at all three photos. "These men... They were part of the organization some years ago. They've betrayed us and got along with the police. I want you to search for information about them three and to catch and kill them. Did I make myself clear?"

Before everyone nodded, a guy raised his hand. "Excuse me, sir, but how would that help us in finding the actual traitor?"

"It's easy. The traitor will try to ruin this mission, too. We'd be able to catch him immediately. If you see that something is going wrong, don't hesitate to call me."

Louis kept another long speech while Lynn wasn't showing any expression. He should've, but he couldn't.

Suddenly, in the middle of Louis's speech, Lynn's phone started ringing on the table. He and his bodyguard saw an unknown number.

Lynn looked at his bodyguard and then at Louis. He took his phone and got up. "Two seconds, sir. I need to answer. You can continue."

He silently left the office. He answered the phone once he found himself in the hallway and a male voice started speaking.

Lynn's eyes widened and the worry and shock were present on his face as he kept listening to the man.

"Lynn Alford? Am I wrong?"

"Who are you? Why did you call me?" he asked with a little sign of anger.

"Oh... So you don't know..."

"What? What to know? What the hell is going on and why did you call me?!" he started screaming.

As he listened to the male voice, he was more and more worried. His eyes widened and the phone almost fell from his hand.

"What a pity... How come you don't know about your friend... Dexter?"

"What?! What's with Dexter?! What happened to him?! I hope you didn't do anything or-"

"Calm yourself down, Alford. I didn't do anything to him."

Lynn felt angrier and angrier. It was the first time that someone called him by his last name without any honorifics.

"Tell me what happened to Dexter right now."

"Nothing very bad. He's just in the hospital."

"Huh?! What?! But why?! Why is he in the hospital?! Explain what the fuck happened!"

"I don't have any idea why is Dexter Elrod in the hospital, but I've seen that the ambulance got him here, at the hospital near the center. If you want to see him, he's awake, you can come."

"Who are you and how did you know about me?"

"I'm sure that doesn't matter too much now. Go and see your friend. That's way more important, isn't it?"

The man hung up the phone while he left Lynn in total confusion. He wanted to know what happened to Dexter and why was he in the hospital. He immediately went back into the meeting room.

He spoke without even thinking clearly: "I'm sorry, boss. I need to leave, right now. It's an emergency and I need to get to the hospital. I'm sorry for leaving the meeting, but I don't have any other choice."

"Emergency? Hospital?"

His boss didn't seem to thank him for the sudden leaving, but he was good this time and he let Lynn leave. While he was going down, he texted his bodyguard to tell him if they suspect anyone or if they found out who the traitor is.

He took the car and immediately drove to the hospital the man had explained to him where Dexter was.

Lynn was worried for Dexter like he never was. He had a feeling that he could lose him any second or moment if he didn't hurry up to arrive there.
