“You can go back to sleeping or do whatever you want, but I won’t come back in again. I won’t worry over or care about you at all,” she said, moving to get up from the bed and turning around, preparing to step out of the room.


“I’m continuing to eat now,” the young man quickly said to her back. When he saw how serious she was, he started to be afraid. The words ‘worry over’ and ‘care about’ that had fallen from her lips had filled his heart with joy.


The young woman turned back to say in an even tone, “I’m going out to get some water for you. I’ll come back in momentarily.”


It was a statement because she did not wait for him to answer. The young woman walked out the door immediately.


In a while, she returned with two glasses of water. The young man quickly displayed his handiwork to her: the empty bowl. He had eaten all of the rice gruel.
