Chapter 34 Ignoring everyone

Ignoring everyone, my mother let go of my hand and stood up straight.

“What are you going to do, mum?” I inquired but she acted as if she had not heard my question. She left the tent and went towards the man and the women who had now caught up with me. Getting up from my seat, I followed my mother. If this man was my mother, then he was trashier than any human being. If he had heard about Henry’s death, why couldn’t he have come to see my mother before the funeral? How did he think publically showing up after years was something good?

“What do you want now?” my mother faced the man, unafraid of causing a scene. “Did you want to prove that he is finally gone so you can live in peace? You’ve never wanted both of them so I guess you’re now happy, huh? And the two of you who despite living in this state have never bothered about my children. Now what do you want?”

“Now is not the time,” the man said.
