Chapter 35 Alone together

The reception took about an hour and half. When it was done, my mother and I went home with one of her friends. Leah and Maryann took their leave on that day as they had to be at work the next morning. Leleti and Maria also left in Edward’s jet so as to avoid extra costs. I knew I would have to use some of the money we had received from people condoling with us especially Edward who had left us a hefty amount. That would be my transport back to New York. I had thanked them all for being so kind but felt alone when everyone left.

Mum’s friend had wanted to stay but mum insisted we would be fine on our own so she left. We hadn’t been alone in ages. Mum and I were seated on the couch, my head was on her lap and she was gently stroking my hair. We said nothing, both of us deep in thought. The house felt so quiet and we felt lonely.
