Chapter 6 Fired From Job

Point of View: Annie

As soon as I enter the room, my phone rings. A smile forms on my face as I see the name.

It is my friend Ruby. As I pick up the call, I hear her question.

“Hey girl, got fired from your job or not”.

I raise my eyebrow and ask nonchalantly.

“What do you think”?

She laughs and says “come to the club at 8 in the evening. We have got another job”.

I agree and then cut the call.

After that, I take a long steamy bath and recall my meeting with Mr. Jones, my ex-manager

Two hours before, in the office

“May I come in, sir”. I ask

An angry male voice sounds inside “Come in”.

As soon as, I open the door I see the grim face of the manager and feel the tense atmosphere.

I know what is going to happen again.

Mr. Jones starts as soon as I enter the office.

“Annie Walters, you have been in this company for almost 6 months. But there is not a single month when you have completed your reports”.

I stand there silently, head down. I am used to it. After a brief lecture, they will fire me from my job.

Mr. Jones continues.

“Miss Walters, we need hard-working employees in our company and you always procrastinate on your work. So, you are fired. You don’t need to come to the office from tomorrow onwards”.

“You may go now and pack your stuff”.

I node and leave the office.

As I start to pack my office, other employees or say my ex-colleagues exchange looks and make funny comments.

Then I hear the clinking sounds of high heels and I know who it is.

Who it can be other than Jasmine?

“Annie, I told you many times you should have to work harder. Now see, you are fired and we lost you”. She sighs dramatically.

She misses me. I inwardly roll my eyes. I know there is more she wants to say to insult me. so, I do not pay attention to her and continue to pack my stuff.

As I expect, she continues.

“Now, who will carry our stuff, copy and deliver documents and complete my work. We have lost our free worker”. She pouted her lips dramatically.

All staff members laugh as soon as she completes.

These people have the lowest humour level. I mean she didn’t say anything so hilarious that you have to laugh.

I complete my packing, turn to her and give her a tight smile.

She waits for me to say something but I just brush past her and enter the elevator and leave.

That was the last time I would ever enter this company.

I finish my bath and wrap a towel one around my torse and one to my wet hairs.

After changing into my comforts, I eat some fruits with a glass of milk.

Although I am skinny, I have the stamina to move an elephant.

I glance at my clock which shows it’s 6:30 in the evening.

I grab my jeans and t-shirt and change into them.

The bar is almost an hour far from my house. But you can’t underestimate the evening traffic.

Therefore, I leave the house at 7.

As expected, the traffic is terrific. But I don’t stick in traffic for too long.

Hence, I reach the club on time.

I scan the area and see Ruby sitting near the bar sipping on her drink.

I walk toward her. As I go further in, the males look at me with awe, need, and lust, and the females with jealousy.

I am not in my usual clothes. That look is my disguise. No one knows who it is behind those old-fashioned granny clothes and thick black framed glasses.

I don’t need glasses to see, I have curves to die for and long black hair.

But I need to disguise myself to blend into commoners. No one can know who I am.

No one can know who is BLACK SHADOW.
