Finishing the First Floor

It had been a few days since the first undead encounter and everyone had gone down the west tunnel instead and we decided to explore that path as much as possible before we went back and explored the others.

During these few days, my platoon had encountered only one group of these wolf like monsters while the rest were undead wolf monsters, that was, until today.

We were heading down one of the paths after coming back out of another of several dead ends and came across a rather large cavern with a lake in it.

The lake seemed to be a crystal clear blue despite the light of the flame illuminating it being orange.

"Anyone here have poison magic?" Denosin asked while casting a side eye towards me.

I nervously raised my hands, not knowing what he wanted with such information.

"Can you check if it's poisoned, since you have poison magic you should have some resistance to it." He asked.

I paused for a moment before slowly slithering over to the water and leaning down and dipping my hand in the water and using my mana to search for anything that even remotely resembled poison with my own magic.

And as the waves of mana pulsed throughout the lake, I also found all of the creatures living in said lake as well as its shape, there also appeared to be some sort of underwater tunnel that led elsewhere, but it was too far for my mana to reach.

[Ding!]

[You have learned the skill [Mana Detection]!]

'Oh sweet, a new skill.' I skimmed over the contents and it basically allows for me to look for things withing a certain radius with my mana.

"Well? Anything?" A voice sounded out behind me, startling me.

I jumpily pulled my hand out of the water as my body tensed out temporarily. I quickly got back and facing Denosin and shook my head.

"Hmm, we can rest here for a bit then before we continue one." He ordered.

So a campfire was temporarily set up as we all took a little break from exploring and killing.

A few more days had passed and we even met up with some of the other platoons in that time, which thankfully hadn't encountered any losses, and exchanged maps of the dungeon's layout. We went our separate ways after that.

And just a day after that we came across a large grey door which seemed to have the same texture as the seemingly dead tree that acted as the entrance to this dungeon. We didn't enter it as this would most likely be the floor boss, which was something every dungeon had.

Since there wasn't anything we could do for the time being, we just camped here for a while.

Another few days had passed and the rest of the platoons that were out exploring the tunnel systems eventually found their way to us and when they were done we had managed to map out the whole of the first floor. Every pathway was mapped and any interesting places such as that cavern with a lake were also noted down as well.

And since everyone was here then that meant that all of the monsters that spawn should have been taken out by now, and even if more appear, they wouldn't be a threat.

"Since we've found the boss door and haven't found anything of real interest, I suppose we should kill this boss and move onto the next floor. Elite platoon, come with me, we'll go and fetch the entrance team." Denosin commanded as he dictated our next course of action.

Which left us having a whole day trek back to the entrance due to how deep the dungeon actually went. and then another whole day just getting back to the boss room.

Once we were back, we had to brainstorm how to deal with the boss monster and what it could even be. Well, the platoon leaders were, everyone else was just resting and preparing for the fight tomorrow.

They didn't manage to finish their talks and told most of us to go to sleep and they would hopefully finish discussing things tomorrow.

Turns out that that was a fucking lie. It's been three days and they still can't figure anything out besides guessing that it'll be a wolf type monster with a similar appearance to the ones we have already encountered.

And at this point several of us were getting frustrated, including myself, so we all decided to confront them and basically forced them to finish discussing things by tonight or we would just go ahead and kill the boss without them.

The following morning they gathered everyone and told us that they were only able to deduce that the boss monster would be similar to the wolves we had faced earlier. And that although they couldn't deduce if it would just be a larger and stronger wolf monster or just a variant species of wolf or both, everyone should have their guard up for anything just in case.

With that small speech over we were all told to get ready to storm the boss.

The time had come and everyone had prepared as best they could and all of us were now facing the boss door, with Denosin, Dorrak and a few others with impressively large figures at the forefront, ready to take any damage that the supposed wolf boss might throw at them.

Of course they weren't so arrogant to just charging in, no, they had defensive spells placed on them before hand from the support mages.

With everyone ready they opened the large wooden doors and everyone charged into the boss hall.

It was pitch black, and then the doors closed up with a loud bang, something very common for boss rooms in dungeons.

And then some lantern dishes lit up with pale green flames, illuminating the room, and casting light upon the beast that lay in the centre. A giant wolf monster, with pale green fur, and chunks of flesh missing from its body.

Despite this, it gave a low growl as the clearly undead beast awakened and stood as high as ten meters tall.

It stared at all of us, growling with anger for disturbing its slumber, as we stared back at it, with no fear and a conviction to kill the monster. But within those rotting irises I could see a faint hint of consciousness, but that soon faded away and the beast let out a bellowing roar, forcing me to forget about what I saw and focus on the fight.

*RRROOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!*

And with that, the battle began.
