Chapter 16 Trouble

Although David didn't finish his sentence, Jessica wasn't stupid and understood his thought.

Following David's last visit to the hospital with her, Emily had cried and screamed while William remained quiet. The only thing she knew for certain was that both William and David were searching for a pair of corneas to help Mia.

But Jessica didn't push her.

Why did everyone think that this was her fault to bear?

Jessica flipped through the calendar countless times and finally decided on the day for her and David's wedding. It was said to be an auspicious day, and celebrating on that day would ensure a long and happy marriage.

David flicked her head and said, "I didn't expect you to be so superstitious."

Jessica smiled shyly, "It's not superstition."

She just hoped that everything would be okay.

During the five years in prison, she knew well that all those who suffered would place their hopes in God. She prayed countless times in jail, praying that she would suffer less today, that the Taylor family would not be affected by her situation, and that William would occasionally remember her.

However, the last one had disappeared from her daily prayers a long time ago.

Jessica was willing to exhaust all her good fortune in the hope of having a trouble-free wedding with David, but it appeared that fate had other plans for her and wasn't willing to let her go so easily.

The night before their scheduled marriage registration, Jessica had a dream in which she saw David approaching her with a grin. She reciprocated the smile and prepared to embrace him, but within seconds, an enormous chasm opened up between them. David, completely unaware of it, stumbled and tumbled into it, leaving Jessica in a state of distress.

Jessica woke up from her dream, screaming and sweating.

And as if it were a curse, the next day, David got into trouble.

Early in the morning, just as Jessica opened the TV to eat breakfast and go find David, an explosive news report was being broadcasted.

David Thompson, the CEO of Thompson Group, was suspected of economic crimes and had been detained by the police. An investigation had been launched into the case.

Hearing this, Jessica was stunned and accidentally knocked over her milk cup. It took her a while to come back to her senses and quickly called David's phone.

A cold voice answered on the other end, "Sorry, but the person you're trying to reach is currently unavailable."

In an instant, her heart plummeted.

She panicked and immediately called the police station, repeating that David would never commit such economic crimes and that the police cannot just arrest someone without evidence.

But the police station responded coldly, "What do you mean no evidence? The CEO of Davis Group, William, personally passed us the evidence. Could they be fake?"

"Bang!"

The name "William Davis" pinned Jessica to the ground like a nightmare. Her phone fell to the ground, and she felt like she had been drenched in cold water, her whole body freezing to the extreme.

She knew it.

How could he easily let her go?

She couldn't move on to a new life, because he would never let her go for the rest of his life.

Jessica didn't have time to clean up the mess on the floor and hurried to the Davis family's villa.

The servants knew her and knew what kind of person she was to the Davis family, so no matter how long she stood outside, no one would open the door for her.

Jessica didn't know if William was inside, but she had no choice but to press the doorbell over and over again, hoping that he would come out to see her or that she could see him when he came back from Davis Group.

As a finance major, she knew how serious the accusation of economic crime was. Once confirmed, this person's position in the business world would be completely ruined.

She didn't believe that David would do such a thing. She kept replaying in her mind the words William had said to her in the car that day: "Whoever tries to get close to her, I won't spare them. I'll make sure they regret it!"
