Boom!
William felt like he was about to explode.
He would never forget the despair in Jessica's eyes at the hospital, he knew how much she didn't want to lose her eyes. But now, she actually said she could take them out, just begging him to spare David.
Begging was such a heavy word for a dignified miss from the Taylor family.
Jessica was willing to do anything for David. Within just two weeks, she had become completely devoted to him.
But why?
Her smiles, her love, and even her beauty were all gifts for him, and they all belonged to him.
How could she be so... easy? And now, she had given herself so freely to another man.
"Begging?" He was seething with anger, pushing her away while hurling hurtful words at her. "Taylor, Mia went blind because you pushed her down the stairs. How dare you use this as a bargaining chip to plead with me?"
"What's more, your corneas will stain Mia's eyes!" William continued. "Get out of here!"
William's temples pounded as he turned to leave.
Was he insane? He got angry over someone who was no longer the one in her heart.
Who was she? She was the one who killed his mother!
She was beyond forgiveness!
Just as he turned around, there was a sudden "thump" behind him, which sounded particularly clear in the quiet rainy night.
"If I were to exchange my life for his," Jessica's voice was as light as a breeze, "if I were to die and disappear completely from this world, would you then let him go?"
William shuddered, feeling as if he were in a trance. His hand trembled slightly, and it took him a while to regain his composure.
Jessica knelt alone on the rain-soaked ground, looking fragile, yet her back was remarkably straight, and her eyes, though slightly lifted, were resolute.
"You're willing to die for him?" William asked in a hoarse voice.
After five years in prison, Jessica had hit rock bottom. Despite enduring countless humiliations from William, she refused to give up on life, and she had started anew even before David was accused.
But now, she said she wanted to die-- for another man!
Someone other than him!
"I am," Jessica said softly, her watery eyes filled with despair. "He's my fiancé. He was born with me, and if he dies, I'll die with him. I know you've always wanted me dead. Five years ago, I didn't get the death penalty, but now I'll give you my life. As long as I see David come out safe and sound, I'll kill myself immediately and never go back my w --"
"Enough!" William shouted angrily, as if his emotions were on the verge of breaking down. He held up the umbrella and walked towards her step by step, his voice stern. "So as long as I let him go, you're willing to do anything, right?"
Without hesitation, Jessica raised her head and said, "Yes!"
What a "yes" it was!
William's gaze intensified instantly, with a hint of cruelty.
"Okay, Taylor, I want you to completely break up with David Thompson tomorrow and move back to the Davis family as Mrs. Davis right now!"
Jessica looked up, wondering if she had misheard.
What did he mean by "as Mrs. Davis"?
Didn't she already --
William extended his hand and a bodyguard promptly handed over a document. He unfurled it with a "swish" and stated, "Take a look, this here is the divorce agreement from five years back, with only your name on it. That means this divorce agreement is null and void, and we are still married."
