Chapter 17: Super criminals

“No, not at all. If there’s only one person, he can’t be ratted out, and can’t rat anyone else out. Also, he’s less likely to be careless, there are no trust issues, and he doesn’t need to worry about being killed for a bigger cut of the loot.”

“Sure, that makes sense.” It was, after all, one of the major reasons David had worked alone for so long when he first started. “But aren’t some things just, you know, too big for one person?”

“Sometimes.” She smiled. It made David want to smile too. “But then you just get a partner, someone who can compliment your skills, do what you can’t. You leave them to do their thing, and you don’t ask them how they do it. You do your thing; they don’t ask you how you do it. That way, even if one of you is caught, you don’t know enough to really effectively rat the other one out.” It bothered him that she was using the word ‘you’, even if she meant it universally. David did not get caught.

Ever.

At least, so far.
