Chapter 35, The Yan Family

After waiting for an hour or so, there came the sound of hurried footsteps approaching. Li Jain looked over and saw a man  in his late 40s dressed in a green robe which is made of lightweight and breathable fabric. The robe has long sleeves and falls to his ankles, giving him a modest and elegant appearance. The robe is adorned with intricate embroidery and patterns, and his hair is tied back in a neat bun.

It's not hard to tell he's a very wealthy person. His eyes are filled with an obvious air of arrogance and superiority. When he approached Li Jain, he looked at him as if he was nothing but a lowly insect under his feet.   He spoke in an almost childish voice which was full of sarcasm. "Well, If it isn't the legendary Li Jain, Welcome. "

"What do you mean?"  Li Jain frowning, annoyed by his arrogant attitude.

The man  sneered at him. "Don't you know you're a legend?" He paused and said mockingly: "You are the man who sold his children for one thousand gold coins, even with the condition of not being able to get them back. And in two months time, you lost all the money to the gambling house. What a mysterious person you are." As he said that, a sinister grin formed on his lips.

Li Jain's frown deepened. He came here to get people back, not to lecture about his past! His eyes narrowed dangerously at this man. "Are you the Yan family patriarch?" he asked in a cold tone.

"The Yan family patriarch is my father, I'm the oldest son." His voice carried an undisguise arrogance. What he meant is, he is the eldest son and more likely to be the next patriarch of the Yan family. But Li Jain care less about his title.

"Oh, since you're not the patriarch then get lost. I'm here to talk to the head of the Yan family, not the head to be." Li Jain stated coldly.

The man's face suddenly changed from an arrogant attitude to a shocked expression. He gaped at Li Jain for a moment before saying:"How dare you peasant talk to me in that manner?" His hands immediately flew to his waist pouch and pulled out some sort of weapon and started pointing towards Li Jain. Li Jain could feel the power radiating from his body, indicating his skill in martial arts. The power level of that weapon is higher than those of other guards' weapons.

"The Yan family must be confused to appoint you as their leader. A man that is quick to draw out his weapon is not fit to be a good leader!" Li Jain scoffed.

This sentence caused an explosion of emotions in the man, showing how much he hates it when anyone  says he's not  worthy enough to be the head of the Yan family. With a red face and bulging muscles, he took a deep breath and calmed himself. "If it wasn't for the fact that I want your children out of this family, I wouldn't have wasted my time talking to you." He said harshly. Li Jain can detect an evident hint of anger in his voice.

This man's name is Yan  Wenzheng. One of the strongest cultivators of the Yan family, known for having the highest potential cultivation level among all the young people and the one more considerably to be the next patriarch. He has four children, three boys and a girl. His children all have high talent in cultivation which made them the favorite of the Yan family patriarch. Well, that was until Li Jain children came.

Although the two children didn't receive half of the resources as his children, they worked twice as hard  and have achieved great progress with cultivation. After they came, The patriarch has been observing them and giving them corrections on the practice. Such treatment that none of the children in the family had received. This led to resentment in Yan Wenzheng. He couldn't wait to get rid of them.

Li Jain frowned and looked at Yan Wenzheng as if the other party was a miserable man that was looking for a belonging: "I don't need your help. I'll get my children back myself."

"Mr. Li, the patriarch is ready to see you." A male servant came forward and bowed slightly to Li Jain. Li Jain nodded to him. "Ok." The servant went ahead and escorted Li Jain into the house.

Yan Wenzheng took still and watched Li Jain's back thoughtfully. Hopefully, that Li Jain guy will succeed.

....

When the servant escorts Li Jain to the guest room,  Li Jain looks up to see an elegantly dressed man sitting crossed-legged in a meditation position. That man's hair is long and black. There was a hint of gray on top of his head which gave him a scholarly appearance. "Why are you here?" the Yan patriarch asks calmly as he opens both of his eyes. His voice carried a huge spiritual pressure to it. When he speaks, it suppresses others around.

The male servant quickly bowed and left the room.

Li Jain frowned slightly, walk and sat on the opposite side of the elder patriarch. "I came to get back Yujian and Yuhan. I'm sure the patriarch won't mind." Li Jain got straight to the point. He doesn't like wasting time in conversation with people who are too polite and reserved to speak. Since the Yan patriarch was a straight forward person, things have become easier.

"Unfortunately, I do mine. Boy, you don't have what it takes to get those children back. As you know, I've spent tons of resources on them over the years."  Yan Wenzheng sighs and shakes his head lightly.

But the next moment, Li Jain suddenly attacked,  slamming his fist right on the Yan patriarch's acupuncture   point and causing a burst of agony for the Yan patriarch. While the patriarch tried to circulate his qi and teach Li Jain a lesson, Li Jain was unexpectedly fast. He continued to strike the other party's acupuncture points, in his wrist, neck, collarbone and other acupuncture points. Each of Li Jain's attacks is powerful enough to make the patriarch groan.  Just when he couldn't take it anymore and wanted to teach Li Jain a lesson, he realized something was wrong and Li Jain also backed off.

The Patriarch looked at Li Jain with doubt, he drew back his spiritual energy and recirculated it. He took a deep breath in and out, realizing how smooth his breathing was, he exhaled. The gaze he used to look at Li Jain changed from resentment to admiration. "Not bad, boy. The problem I've been suffering from for decades was solved by you in only a few seconds."

"The problem has to do with your cultivation method." Li Jain said bluntly.

The patriarch shook his head, looking perplexed. "What do you mean?"

"Your cultivation method should not be the correct method and it has lots of flaws. Which is while you are feeling pain when cultivating or breathing. Your cultivation base is dangerously unstable, causing internal damage to the body. It's only a matter of time before you experience Qi Deviation. I would advise against you trying to continue using that method, for its destructive effects." Li Jain explained. He was very familiar with cultivation methods and can tell if they're suitable or not.

The patriarch frowned and looked at Li Jain for a moment in confusion. He knew that what Li Jain said was true, but he had no replacement. "This cultivation method was the only high I was able to find over the years." He replied bitterly.

"Do you mind letting me take a look at it?" Li Jain asked politely.

With reluctance, the patriarch took an old book that contained the  cultivation method and handed it to Li Jain.

Li Jain opened the old book. He flipped through pages, examining each one carefully. The expression on his face didn't change. "It seems that the cultivation method isn't suited for everyone. You should consider changing your methods." Li Jain concluded.

He took out a similar book from his space library and handed it over to the patriarch. The latter took the books from Li Jain and inspected them carefully. His expression turned to shock and astonishment. "You actually have the superior level of Qi manipulation Manual! How did you manage to acquire such a thing? Where did you get this book?"

Li Jain smiled faintly. "Enough of the questions. Is this payment enough to let me take my children?"

This cultivation method is something he might not be able to obtain in his life. Not only can it solve his current crisis, it can also make him stronger and prolong his life. The patriarch was very pleased. He waved his hand, signaling for his servants to bring them over. Two of the men walked in and kneeled on the ground and left after receiving the order.

"Your boys are very promising and hard working. Don't let their talent  fade away because of their father's negligence." The Patriarch said seriously before leaving. He left behind a speechless Li Jain.

"You could have just said thank you."  Li Jain mumbled under his breath.
